Nature's colours.

And then Christ showed me a tiny, round thing. It was about the size of a hazelnut, which I held in the palm of my hand. And I wondered, “What might this be? How can this last? It is so tiny, it could just fade into nothing!” This is the answer that came to me. “In this small thing is all of creation! It lasts and it always will last because God loves it. In this way all creation lasts because God made it, God cares for it, God loves it.”

North Point Lighthouse was built in 1888 in Lake Park on the East Side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to mark the entrance to the Milwaukee River from Lake Michigan. After being rebuilt two more times, the current 74-foot, riveted-steel tower stands 100 feet in from the edge of the bluff and next to the Queen Anne-style light keeper's quarters. Today, it's the only lighthouse in the US built of three separate lighthouse structures... from 1855, 1888, and 1912. The US Coast Guard decommissioned the light in 1994.

Artichoke flower.

I didn't realize how beautiful and delicate the flowers were when I allowed one of my home-grown artichokes to go to the flowering stage. The delicate mauve petals are covered with a dusting of white pollen and the greenish 'choke' is visible in the centre of the flower. Other interesting details can be seen at the largest size.

I know, it’s ubiquitous and almost obligatory, but hard to pass up in this case. It was the end of my October '24 trip to London with a befitting beautiful sunset as I got close to home. The ending can be full of ambivalent thoughts — you’re happy to be home but still thinking of the good times you had and all you might have missed or not gotten to do. There's always next time.

As I was leaving an old, greasy-spoon restaurant here in rural NEOhio, this well-worn Dodge pickup caught my eye. Circa 1968.
