Classrooms like this are used to educate inmates in a re-entry program at Limestone Correctional Facility and to teach classes to inmates for college credit by instructors from Calhoun Community College. With the current overcrowding at the facility, common areas have been taken up to house inmates. Gov. Robert Bentley's "Alabama Prison Transformation Initiative" would alleviate overcrowding, increase safety and provide ample space for education and rehabilitation. Prison reform advocates and activist groups gathered outside the New York Governor offices in Manhattan to urge Governor Cuomo, the New York State Legislature, and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) to close Attica immediately and permanently.
