Original linotype printing machine in Allers factory in Helsingborg, Sweden.

These printing plates were made by the stereotype process from paper molds, called flongs, in which the flong was placed into a casting form and filled with liquid type metal. They appear to have been created for stamps and coin advertisements. (The blue-outlined item at lower-right appears to be created from aluminum in a different process.) These flat stereotypes would not have gone on a newspaper press. Instead, they would be mounted to the right height and locked down with a full page of a newspaper in flat form, from which yet another flong was made, and that flong was then cast as a curved stereotyped for the high-speed rotary presses used in newspaper printing. These all look to be from the early 1970s, just before letterpress/relief printing was in its dying days, used increasingly only by newspapers before they switched to modern offset, a massive expense.

The total print time for this job took about 25 minutes. So cool! Our heads are spinning with all of the possibilities.

the "S-Printing Horse" in the open area in front of the Print Media Academy makes a playful impression. Measuring 13 meters in height, 15 meters in length and four meters in width and weighing 90 metric tons, it is one of the world's largest horse sculptures.

Like this image, looks as if the horse is riding the car!

There is no other method compares to 3D printing rapid prototyping when it comes to getting prototypes fast and at a low cost . If you need a preliminary sample to test for form, fit or simply aesthetics, 3D printing rapid prototyping is the best option. The complex geometries enabled by the 3D printing process let you create intricate parts to accurately gauge manufacturability and other considerations before making the decision to move to more functional testing. These oval-shaped self adhesive labels have been produced by our label printers for gardening and horticulture specialist suppliers William Sinclair. They will be applied to the “New Horizon” range of Multi-purpose container compost which has been awarded the “Which? Best Buy” prize in both 2010 and 2011. The label printing team at Etiquette manufacture these printed labels using the latest UV ink technology on one of our custom materials and once inspected by our Quality Control department they will be delievered to another happy customer.

These paper molds are called flongs, which were made for casting metal plates for printing, typically to build up a page for a newspaper. Flongs were made by taking an original and under high pressure, creating a molded inverse, which was then in turn cast in type metal. These all look to be from the early 1970s, just before letterpress/relief printing was in its dying days, used increasingly only by newspapers before they switched to modern offset, a massive expense.

At the bottom, you can see some form of rubbing taken from likely the metal original of the plate that made the flong just above. It appears to be part of a movie ad and is marked “Outlook” on the back, but I’ve been unable to find a match.

this press was printing a row of kiwiana picture blocks (incl. the four square guy). the other adana was printing people's names. i helped kids find their way around a california job case & redistributed type.
