Photos from Matt & Kate's winter rowboat engagement session near Prince George British Columbia.

We changed outfits after the rowboat portion of their session, and headed out onto the dock. Her blue dress really stood out against the dark lake and snowy trees - some of our favourite photos we have taken this year.

It was a beautiful afternoon in Prince George today, so I went out exploring. I came upon this gorgeous Hooded Merganser pair dabbling for lunch along the edge of the ice in a flooded slough just off the Fraser River north of town. I would have liked to have been able to get down a little lower, but the terrain did not allow for it.

This image was taken with my new Canon 7DII body (at an effective focal length of 1792mm!! It's like cheating...). My previous (first) outing with the camera, just after purchasing it, wasn't particularly successful. After doing some more focus micro-adjustment I was hoping things would be better. I took this shot using a 1.4x tele-converter (which I had not done any micro-adjustment calibration utilizing) and ran into some more focus problems. I tried playing around with the focus micro-adjustment in the field, but it seemed the focus adjustment required for my lens combination with the TC on was "out of range" of the adjustment available(?). This image came out fine, but was taken utilizing Live View rather than PDAF through the viewfinder. Some more investigation will be required...

I sat and watched this Merlin completely disembowel and devour a small bird, feet and all (a Junco maybe?) in the bad light and drizzle at Cottonwood Island Nature Park in Prince George. I actually had trouble picking a frame to process as most are a lot more graphic and gory than this one...

Photos from Marnie & Alejandro's wedding day at their family farm in Prince George BC. They asked for some Vanity Fair style wedding portraits of the bridal party, and had the perfect library room for us to make it happen.

Prince George of Cambridge is turning 5 in a couple days, which I didn't know until I had already drawn this grumpy version of him.

As long as they keep happening, I'll keep photographing them.

Here's our latest fashion photography session in Prince George BC with the beautiful and talented Lindsay!

It was her second time hiring us to help build on her fashion portfolio. This time she wanted something with a bit more of an editorial type look, which was great since we got to use some different clothing from our collection, as well as one of our vintage dresses at the end.

Known as Subaru in Japan. This cluster of hot, blue young stars 400 light years distant is slowly dissociating as the stars move away from each other. The cluster is surrounded by copious dust which is reflecting the stars light. One of the hallmarks of the boreal winter sky. A stack of 50 frames, 60 seconds each, ISO800. Oct 29, 2019.

Why do people like this photo? It's popular but I'd like to know why.

I woke up yesterday morning around 5:30 and looked out the north window to see the aurora glowing brightly. Feb 15, 2012.

Our Daily Challenge: Starts with "W"

A few days ago I posted a shot of some flooding in a local park. Well over the course of this last week, they have closed the park as the water levels have risen to the point where the pathways have essentially disappeared. Some homes have been threatened by the rising waters also and 17 families have been evacuated from the area. This shot is another from that same park at the beginning of what was dry pathways a week ago.

I found this Hooded Merganser drake just east of Prince George. I like how the red bark of the emerging Pussy Willows has produced a pleasing pink reflection in the water.

Willow River Bridge is located on Upper Fraser Road, approximately 37 km north east of Prince George. The current single lane structure will be replaced with a modern two-lane bridge.

The original Willow River Bridge was built in 1957 and consisted of a wide single lane timber bridge. In March 2002 due to damage, the bridge was replaced with a temporary steel Acrow bridge that was intended to be replaced with a two-lane, permanent structure. This project will replace the temporary single lane bridge with a modern two-lane one, as well as realign 580 m of Upper Fraser Road and reconstruct 100 m of Arnett Road. These improvements will provide increased safety and mobility for residents and the traveling public.

During construction, the current Willow River Bridge will be used as a detour to ensure safe and effective traffic movement.

This old car was just sitting on the side of a highway. I had to stop to capture it.
