Like a bad computer virus that just won't quit, the Flickr paparazzi strikes again. I was tagged by Wade and then, by Rex, and earlier by Jerri and Julie (little brats). So, in the spirit of the game, since I can't beat 'em, I decided to join 'em. So here it is, photo no. 133 - my low-res photobooth shot, taken right after I received Rex's email. (Well, technically there are 4 pictures here, right? One for each invite - LOL) And yes, I'm trying to avoid the camera like the plague! LOL To those who I have tagged, I trust you'll not block me or anything drastic like that. To those Flickr friends who I am not tagging, I know you'll thank me. LOL
Here are the rules ...
1) Sit down.
2) TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF RIGHT NOW. Don't primp, just snap one!
3) Upload it.
4) Tag 5 people to do the same.
Tag. Your it.
OK dear Flickr friends. I was going to wait and do this tomorrow but then I read the rules.....no primping. So I did brush my hair - been doing housework - and grabbed trusty Gomez to sit with me. He was a patient cat for the photo. So, what's that everyone is talking about being old? Well....what can I say....when you're there your there. So self portraits are better left untaken....
So to those I tagged:
1. sit down.
2. take a picture of yourself right now. don't primp, just snap one.
3. upload it.
4. tag 3 people to do the same.

I'm kind of aware of the fact that I don't post as frequently on Flickr as I used to. One of the reasons is that I had several albums, with dozens and dozens of photos, and I made the posting of those albums into projects that consumed a fair amount of time. I have several other albums, but there's only one that is both full of photos and full of photos of a high-quality and/or contains lots of photos with highly-interesting content. When the time comes to post that one album, I hope I remember to do it.
Meanwhile, here's a little morsel, an album I've had for a while. I don't, in fact, remember where I bought it, but it was pre-Iowa, which means either South Carolina, Florida, or the Missouri triangle as the source of purchase. For some reason, I have the state of Maryland attached to my memory of where these photos might have been taken, and where the school might be. Don't know why I have that memory, as there is no intrinsic evidence to support that association.
Most of these kids are smiling. This photographer had The Knack, and, to be honest, I worry about the kids who aren't smiling. My most haunting memory of going into the Arkansas Public Schools, K through 12 (I participated in a program called "Poets in the Schools," (though, of course, I was never a poet), until I got fired for being a bad boy (and my indiscretion does not even make for a very good story), oh yeah, my most haunting memory, is how in kindergarten, just about all the kids, rich and poor, black and white, were boiling over with irrepressible enthusiasm, and by the time they were sophomores and juniors and seniors, they had been sorted out, and the kids who as kindergartners were no less able, no less inventive, no less alive, were now, after the democratizing socialization process, shunted aside, deemed lesser, slotted to change tires down at the Firestone store, or put on an apron and primp the lettuce at the local grocery. And that was before Wal-Mart had done the worst of its work. Even the teachers, at least some, if not most of them, participated in the process. They would point out the troublemakers for you, and speak sneeringly of them. The experience was uplifting, and terribly disheartening, which is how I feel about my wonderful, dastardly country.

A friend came to visit for the weekend I had the pleasure of showing him the sights in and around T.O. Off again to High Park for the sakura and zoo. This lovely fellow was kind enough to make the long trip down to the fence and strut his stuff for our waiting cameras. You'da thunk he was competing in a pageant the way he primped then turned slowly 360° so we could take it all in. Thanks Mr. Peacock, that tiara is going to look FAB on you.
He's still quite brown in spots but I assume he'll green-ify come summer. (totally guessing and making that up)

Vung Tau, as well as a popular seaside resort, is a fishing village and Front Beach at low tide is where some of the fisher men (and fisher ladies) prep and primp their colourful boats.

The Mocking-Bird
He didn’t know much music
When first he come along;
An’ all the birds went wonderin’
Why he didn’t sing a song.
They primped their feathers in the sun,
An’ sung their sweetest notes;
An’ music jest come on the run
From all their purty throats!
But still that bird was silent
In summer time an’ fall;
He jest set still an’ listened,
An’ he wouldn’t sing at all!
But one night when them songsters
Was tired out an’ still,
An’ the wind sighed down the valley
An’ went creepin’ up the hill;
When the stars was all a-tremble
In the dreamin’ fields o’ blue,
An’ the daisy in the darkness
Felt the fallin’ o’ the dew,—
There come a sound o’ melody
No mortal ever heard,
An’ all the birds seemed singin’
From the throat o’ one sweet bird!
Then the other birds went Mayin’
In a land too fur to call;
Fer there warn’t no use in stayin’
When one bird could sing fer all!

The Brown Pelican is a comically elegant bird with an oversized bill, sinuous neck, and big, dark body. Squadrons glide above the surf along southern and western coasts, rising and falling in a graceful echo of the waves. They feed by plunge-diving from high up, using the force of impact to stun small fish before scooping them up. They are fairly common today—an excellent example of a species’ recovery from pesticide pollution that once placed them at the brink of extinction.

"I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick." – Audrey Hepburn
There is something special, stylish and seductive about lipstick. It promotes beauty, elegance and luxury with the simple twist of a baton and a swipe of application. Even the advertisements for lipstick are glamourous!
The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” on the 15th of January is “lipstick”, so this is my idea for an advertisement for lipstick using a gold Art Deco baton from the 1930s which once contained a tube of red lipstick and a tube of Coral Colours ‘Raisin’ and MAC ‘Paramour’ lipstick.
Lipstick is a cosmetic that applies protection, texture and mostly colour to the lips. Based on cosmetic cases found at archaeological sites dating back five thousand years, it is thought that Ancient Sumerians were the first to wear lipstick. These ancient cosmetics were made by mixing crushed gemstones with oils and waxes. Ancient Egyptians also wore red lipstick as an indicator of social status. Although the name originally applied to the baton (stick) of material, within a tubular container, usually around ten milimeters in diameter and fifty milometers in length, the term now generally relates to the material itself, regardless of method of application.

The sun is down, the day is done, and this young fellow is primped, primed, and ready for some nightlife. (Anna's Hummingbird, young male)
Today, there were swarms of Hummingbirds at my two feeders. Have no idea where they came from except we got an inch of rain yesterday after over 8 weeks without a drop. There must have been over 50!

Today we took Pup up to a village by the name of Mendlesham, about 10 miles from home, to update her hairstyle!!
We had to leave her for an hour to get all primped, clipped and bathed, so went, not for the first time, for a trot around the village.
There are two gorgeous Half-Timbered houses in the village .. this is one of them.
I do like the way that there are wonky areas .. being able to move is what keeps these houses still standing after lots of earth movement over the millennia! Plus, I make no apologies for leaving the TV aerial in place! 😁
I used to own a similar house in North Suffolk, so found out quite a bit from the builders who worked on it .. special builders they were, who specialised in this sort of house!

The Ladies Powder Room at the 19th century Real Casino de Murcia in Murcia, Spain, has large mirrors for the benefit of primping ladies.
The Wood Duck is considered by many to be our most colourful species of waterfowl. Paintings and photos of Wood Ducks grace many brochures and advertisements promoting wildlife and conserving wetlands. Their favored habitat is forested wetlands like rivers, streams, shorelines of lakes and beaver ponds. They have sharp claws for perching in trees where they nest in tree cavities and will accept man-made nesting boxes. Their diet includes mainly seeds, fruits, aquatic plants and acorns but will also glean insects. The Wood Duck is our heaviest consumer of fruits and nuts of all our species of ducks. Most often we find them surface feeding on ponds where they glean and tip to forage on aquatic vegetation.
A tip for photographers - when the hen calls - they are going to flush GUARANTEED.
They are commonly found in small flocks of less than 20 and do not socialize with other waterfowl.
Females lay 7 - 14 eggs in a clutch and at times are guilty of "parasitizing" - laying eggs in another hens nest.
This hen is flapping her wings after primping while the drake takes a break.
This impersonator was great! He really played the crowd and looked amazingly like Putin. We saw him several times, and on this occasion, he pretended to be looking in a small mirror, fixing his hair, and taking selfies! Theme description: “Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!” - Mae West
Is there something in your doll’s life that he/she excessively desires or craves? This theme is all about exploring your doll’s personality (and maybe his/her home) for inspiration. Is your doll a shopaholic with a closet filled with designer shoes? Or perhaps he/she has an insatiable sweet tooth for ice cream sundaes with pecans….lots of pecans. Or maybe your doll has a secret guilty pleasure that the average doll might find unusual or even tawdry. Think C-grade scary movie marathons at home. Think hidden toy chests spilling with troll dolls under the bed. Show us what your doll loves to collect or experience to the extreme!
This photo: Marie is primping for an evening date with Chad Towers.
"Marie, Chad called and said he'll be here a little early to pick you up," Chrissy yells from downstairs.
"Uh, can you call him back and tell him that's not going to work? I still have to do my facial treatment, my makeup and my hair. Beauty can't be rushed!"
Of all my dolls (Elizabeth's stress-eating with ice cream excluded), Marie is one to indulge. She loves beauty products of all kinds and can easily spend hours reading romance novels while trying out a new beauty mask -- even if that means she's a little late from time to time. ;)
Marie is a Flashdance Barbie. Her lit vanity and robe are Mattel.
