Preserved - Maidstone & District - LKP 385P seen at Detling Showground participating in the South East Bus Festival rally on April 2nd 2022

New to Ribble in December 1996 as fleet number 469; this preserved former Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire Volvo B10M-55/Alexander PS, 20131 (P131 XCN), was one of a batch intended for allocation to the Busways division when new, but was diverted following a major vandalism attack at Bolton Depot. It is pictured here at Hazel Grove Park & Ride, whilst on display for the "Farewell to the B10M" event. 14/11/15

In conjunction with the 896 Bus Group, Stagecoach Manchester said "Farewell to the B10M" on Saturday 14th November 2015. This vehicle type will be eliminated from operators' fleets by the end of the year, as, from 1st January 2016, the Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000 requires all single deck vehicles used on local bus services to be fully accessible.

Stagecoach UK Bus operated over 750 Volvo B10M buses in total, and most divisions now only have single digit figures of this vehicle type remaining in service, having once been a familiar sight around the country.

For the event; Stagecoach Manchester's last two remaining Alexander PS bodied Volvo B10M vehicles operated special journeys on service 192 (Manchester - Stockport - Hazel Grove Park & Ride), the route where the B10M story in Manchester began, and were also joined by visiting Volvo B10Ms (some of which also operated special journeys on service 192, while others were used in a static display at Hazel Grove Park & Ride). The special B10M 192 journeys charged normal Stagecoach fares with revenue being donated to Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention - over ÂŁ900 is believed to have been raised in total.

Visitor at Herculaneum (Italian: Ercolano) is an ancient town in what is now Campania, Italy that preserved ruins.

The city was destroyed and buried under volcanic ash & pumice in the Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD.

Like the nearby city Pompeii, Herculaneum is interesting to stroll through but is much smaller and easier to see in a couple of hours.

Info: The thick layer of ash that blanketed the town also protected it against looting and the elements. Unlike Pompeii, the mainly pyroclastic material that covered Herculaneum carbonized and preserved more wood in objects such as roofs, beds, and doors, as well as other organic-based materials such as food and papyrus - Herculaneum, wikipedia.

Around this time, the line was also being used to test the BR 'ACV' 4-wheeled railbus units:

The loco was withdrawn in July 1961, and scrapped in August 1962. No examples were preserved..

On the right is the old gasworks building, which was in use until 1971, and was demolished in 1975.

In later years, all that remained of the station was the bare platform and a single track, but in recent years the station has been refurbished, and the line electrified.

Today (2018) the old gasworks site is occupied by offices and a supermarket.

...you slice each lemon criss-cross, almost all the way through, then push them into a canning jar, spread them open with your fingers and pour a tablespoon or two of kosher salt on top. Then repeat, pressing each lemon down to help release the juice. Once you'e reached the top of the jar, juice another lemon to bring the liquid all the way to the jar rim.

Then you screw the lid on tightly, and place the jar in a corner of your kitchen somewhere out of direct light. What you are doing is changing the composition and taste of the lemon rinds.

Turn the jar back and forth once a day. After three weeks or so, the liquid will become increasingly cloudy, indicating that the salt has done its work. Now you can put the jar in the refrigerator, where the lemons will keep for months.

The rinds become soft, and take on a strong and delicious lemon-salt flavor. I like to chop up the rind from a quarter or half a lemon into soups, stews, salads, just about anything. My giant canning jar holds 20 lemons, enough for maybe eight or nine months of cooking...
