A wonderful location high in the Italian Dolomites

This beautiful 14th Century Bell Tower hints at what lies beneath the surface: namely, Curon, an Italian village that was flooded by the government in 1950 to create an artificial lake.

I almost didn't make this trip but despite a late start due a 2nd dose or pesky Covid I finally Joined Rohan Reilly and a great team of people. This location was one I really hoped to be able to visit.

I chose this viewpoint as it appealed to my minimalistic taste and the weather app showed only a couple of possible snow showers so I set up my camera and then waited keeping an eye on my snow radar app, finally a bit a of a snow blizzard passed behind the tower almost hiding the distant mountains. I was very lucky as this is the image I wanted and had in my mind.

All the seasonal feels are present in Northeast Mississippi - of all places - in the week leading up to Christmas. 4 geeps of various flavors power this southbound monster out of Corinth. The West Tennessee RR has added a healthy cut of hoppers to the normally large Artesia Sub turn. This Wednesday version of the turn has just finished working the north end of Booneville and is passing the former depot in town. Holiday lights adorn the main overpass in downtown as the big celebration is only 5 more days away. It seemed like every town had their own flavor of how to celebrate Christmas, and surprisingly made me feel in touch with the season. Simple light displays, to full on corporate Coca-Cola backed productions in Corinth - everyone had a little bit of something to remind your December 25th was quickly approaching.

Museum van Bommel van Dam, the museum for modern and contemporary art in North Limburg, is presenting an anniversary exhibition this fall of the realistic painter Evert Thielen (1954), born in Venlo. For over 50 years, he has been making extremely detailed paintings and meter-high polyptychs with self-made paint and gives his own twist to classical genres.

The term is surrounded by elevations as the "Sierra del balconcillo" and the "Cerro del Aguila". From north to south in the municipality runs Guadalcacín swamp. In the forest predominates under a variety of "broom and cistus" and "wild olive trees, oaks and holm oaks."

It has also called Saint Mary of Guadalupe of Algar. Its name comes from the place where, in the eighteenth century, settled the original colony, the meadow of Algar and this from Arabic al-gar, "the cave". For you dear friend Manolo, his wonderful gallery:

Apparently there was a building on this spot in 1580, but the present building dates from the late 1600s. I stayed here once in order to cover a wedding, and it was very pleasant indeed. Judy and I called in here for coffee as we were passing through Burford on our way home from the Cotswolds. Sheep Street, in which the hotel is situated, is absolutely full of beautiful old buildings. It was just a shame that the weather was quite cloudy and grey.

Excerpt from www.pafac.org: The first sculptures were installed in Webster's Woods in 2000 and every year new pieces are presented through the Center's Art Outside program. Visitors can explore the site independently by using the park trails and discover artworks hanging in trees, burrowing in the ground, or camouflaged by the natural beauty of the foliage. The Center's gallery and Webster's Woods are both free and open to the public year round.

I presented a new camera for myself :)

Great Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 lists this plant with large leaves and small flowers from the central Americas as Commelina zanonia. Later again it was renamed to its present moniker. Linnaues, though, - careful scientist that he was - pointed out that it had first been described by that fine botanist Charles Plumier (1646-1704) under the name Zanonia graminea. Plumier in 1703 waxes eloquent on the merits of the botanical scholar for whom he had named it: Giacomo Zanoni (1615-1682). Besides, he publishes a fine engraving of the flowers (see inset).
