Now designated as critically endangered, the Amur leopard is a leopard subspecies native to southeastern Russia and northern China. It is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In 2007, only 19โ26 wild leopards were estimated to survive in southeastern Russia and northeastern China due mainly to poaching.
It is hoped that this 2 year old beauty will help towards conservation of what is a very special big cat, though at present there are no female Amur Leopards available for him.

Il Cuculo presenta una lunghezza di 33 cm e puรฒ raggiungere fino ai 60 cm di apertura alare, per un peso tra i 70 e i 170 grammi. Per la โsilhouetteโ in volo puรฒ essere confuso addirittura con lo Sparviere.
La specie รจ ben nota per la peculiare abitudine di essere โparassitaโ di nidi altrui , ove una femmina di Cuculo puรฒ deporre, complessivamente, anche fino a 15-20 uova ogni stagione:
i giovani cuculi nascono contemporaneamente, o addirittura prima dei compagni di nido e, per istinto, spingono fuori dal nido le uova o la prole dei genitori adottivi, sbarazzandosi in tal modo dei concorrenti e rimanendo unici โpadroniโ del nido. I nuovi genitori continueranno a nutrirli lo stesso, guidati dallโistinto naturale.

The present church was built after the fire of 1844. It exhibits a neoclassical construction, decorated with one of the largest organ in South America, a large lamp of Sevillian origin, a French neo-Gothic pulpit, Carrara marbles and wood carving. It is also one of the 70 churches in the world authorized to display the banner of the Vatican.
This Inca tern was such a kind fella, I have to present him here. Relentlessly he brought his bird-wife one fish after the other. At least that's how my amateurish ornithology brain pictured their roles.

soundtrack: Hot chip - so glad to see you
I had to go out and look for this present of a Snowy Owl for several hours in various farm lands north of Toronto. At the end it was a nice present. It was a gorgeous sunny day, so I decided to drive around in search for one. I found four; however, they were all sitting in the middle of farm lands far from the roads. I knew that I was in for a long wait. Then around 3:20 PM I found this juvenile sitting on a road-side hydro pole for 15 minutes and then taking off to sit on another field. I took my eyes off for a sec just when she took off; by the time I lifted my camera up she was already moving away from me. When I left, the other three were still sitting in the field. I guess, being young, this one couldn't sit still for too long. My first Snowy sighting of the season. They are such a gorgeous bird. Recent research shows that their number has declined by 60% between 1970 and now. What a shame it will be if this bird goes out the Dodo way. Sunnidale, Ontario.

On Valentines Day, 2014, a starving Kookaburra presented at my back fence. I named her Boney because she was a bag of feathers and bones. I fed her and she would fly down from the trees and perch beside me on my front porch and take food from my hand, We bonded, she gained weight, grew new feathers and eventually she stopped coming. I was sad and glad, often wondering what had become of her, but content to think she was out there somewhere living the Kookaburra good life.
A few weeks before last Christmas, Boney returned. She was in good shape but her feathers were shabby and she had no tail feathers at all. Ever since she has come to visit me every day and always alone. She will sit on a chair or on the table ouside my back door. I know her just as well as she knows me, I talk to her and she makes little Kookaburra noises in response. Some days when she has eaten she will just sit quietly for a long time, and I stay with her and we "talk" until she's ready to fly away.
She still takes food from my hand, her feathers are a bit shabby, but the weather has been hot and she has been shedding feathers to help keep cool. She has gained weight and has finally started to grow two tail feathers.
This then is an update on a story that started with a photo I posted in 2014. Here she is a few days ago showing her best table manners, and below a link to a shot of her on the first day we met. Don't you just love stories with a happy ending.
