The 49th Antique Fly-In a “Triumph Over Adversity” - adversity in the form of weather & weather forecasts. The turnout was much greater than would have been predicted or could have reasonably been expected at 10 AM Saturday when it started to rain. Ceilings were 800 feet or less at 9 AM and only slowly improved. We never really saw the sun until well after noon but neither did we have fog which would have been a deal-breaker. 61 guest planes flew in. I saw some planes I’d never seen before although no WACOs ventured out (understandable). The oldest plane was the “Lindbergh” Bird restored by Joseph & Anna Fichera, piloted by Andrew King - thanks for that. John Chirtea brought his new (to him) Ercoupe plus 3 other Ercoupes came - as they had promised. There were a surprising number of drive-in spectators too, so many that the fire company food stand sold out of everything (for which we apologize).
Thanks to the Potomac Antique Aero Squadron for putting on this event and everyone that volunteers and, of course, all the pilots that showed up despite the discouraging view out their windows when they woke up that Saturday morning.

They predicted that there might be up to 10,000 people show up for the start of the race. I don't think nearly that many came, but maybe three to four thousand. In any case, it looked like over half of those there had some gray hair. Apparently not an event for the younger generations. This is just my speculation, but I think that for those under the age of thirty, all family automobiles have looked sort of alike for all their lives (boring). The appearance of mom or dad's new car did little to inspire the kids who rode in them.

Now I wish I would have bought a program book, since it would have made identification of the vehicles a lot easier.
I'll change the title and the this description if I find out more details about this car.
"The Great Race" is an annual event that started in 1983 and consists of classic cars (some more classic and/or classy than others) driving a specific route across the United States. The first race started at Knott’s Berry Farm California to Indianapolis Indiana. This year the race was to run along Highway 66 from Kirkwood to Santa Monica California.
From what I understand the routes are planned in such a way that the cars can avoid having to get on an Interstate highway.

ue to system problems I was unable to upload this series of images until today.
On the 4th & 5th October 2016, leading international thinkers in the areas of Data, Predictive Models, Technology and Decision making gathered at the RDS, Dublin, for Predict 2016. The speakers, many of whom I managed to photograph, discussed the latest progress in Predictive Modelling and its future – from Data to Software and Hardware technology, plus Predictive Modelling methods and the best examples of Data-driven Decision-making.
The organisers kindly invited me to the Predict event at the RDS. In case your are interested I used a Sony A7RM2 coupled with a Sony 29-135 full frame lens. The lens does attract a lot of attention which allows me to to have interesting interesting people … volunteers, students from Brazil, photographers etc.
What a calm and peaceful place. Sounds of geese honking and ice cracking cut through the cold, crisp air. Snow is predicted in the am!

As predicted and bucking the normal fate which befalls small sized Matchbox castings their 2021 Citroen Ami proved popular with collectors and avoided the dreaded peg warming status. Well certainly here in the UK and probably Europe, maybe not in the US! ;-P
Being a FAIRLY common sight over here probably partly explains its popularity as well as its obvious cuteness. Cost saving manufacturing methods means a basic one piece plastic upper though detailing is excellent and metallic paint finish flawless.

I'm pleased with English, Sociology isn't too bad considering I'd never done it before prior to my AS' and I did really well in the exam, same with psychology. And I absolutely hate psychology so an E isn't that bad. It's still a pass. I don't know what I'm predicted for art because I do it independently so I'll predict myself an A :-D

Science predicted a calm "solar weather" for this weekend. The professionals have other standards, because this eruption today impressed me enormously!
I was already disassembling my instruments when I took a final look through my small "standby" Lunt telescope. What an eruption! I noticed already before constantly bright knots in this prominence. But it was unattractive from the shape, so that I did not want to observe it any longer. For a film animation it was too late, I was too hectic. Here a photo of a series of this high rising eruption.
