Our lives are full of decisions that lead us down such paths. Paths where it is impossible to predict where they will lead us.
Of course, we usually have a wish as to where we would like to end up. And we usually have a fear in our luggage. The fear that the path will lead us to a place we cannot handle.
Both are completely normal. Because where knowledge is lacking, imagination sets in. It's always been that way. And so it's completely okay if we're afraid of the unknown. This fear is a protective mechanism that increases our awareness and ensures that we pay attention to where we place our feet. Something that makes us slow down but minimizes the risk of accidents.
So when you find yourself on the path into the unknown, not only accept your wishes and visions, but also your fears.
In the end we always get somewhere. And in my experience, it's rarely the place we want and never the place we're most afraid of. So take the first step and let yourself be surprised.

Etwas, was uns zwar langsamer werden lässt, jedoch die Unfallgefahr minimiert.
Also nehmt nicht nur Eure Wünsche und Visionen an, wenn Ihr mal wieder auf dem Weg ins Ungewisse seid, sondern auch Eure Ängst.
Schlußendlich kommen wir immer irgendwo an. Und nach meiner Erfahrung ist es selten der Ort den wir uns wünschen und nie der Ort vor dem wir am meisten Angst hatten. Also macht den ersten Schritt und lasst Euch überraschen.

Update: We are totally cut off from the south. Floods are so bad 3 hours from us. That means no food trucks getting through. Ingham is a large country town and being evacuated. Townsville is cut off as well. No access from inland either. No trains heading up. Only access is by air or sea I guess.
Oh all these poor people down there.
They are predicting TC Ellie will head out to sea again and reform. So much more flooding for the south.
Wonder how much tin food I have left in the cupboard??

Sunday storm prediction for the lakeshore,
WHERE...Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren counties.
WHEN...From 1 AM Sunday to 1 AM EST Monday.
IMPACTS...Significant erosion of beaches and dunes, inundation of low-lying areas along the lakeshore and in river mouths, and road closures are possible.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong fall storm system will move through the Great Lakes tonight and Sunday. Winds will increase substantially out of the west on Sunday bringing a rise in water levels as well as producing large battering waves. Wave heights will likely reach the 12 to 16 foot range on Sunday. Peak wind gusts will top out in the 50 to 60 mph range.
This shot of the Grand Haven lighthouse was taken October 22 of 2019. I do not think the light will be this good on Sunday as they are also predicting rain al day long. So probably not much sun light at all.
If this looks promising I might head out that way, we will see.
They predicted wet and heavy snow from Winter Storm Riley. I think they nailed that one. The ground was bare and waterlogged when it started last night, and the temperature has remained above freezing, yet the snow has become quite deep by mid-day and is still coming down strong. I just saw a line snap outside my window, and there are broken branches in the back yard. It all looks quite beautiful though, with the big flakes coming down.
(update: This tree returned to it's upright position as the snow melted quickly, but another storm is rolling in already, Nor'Easter Quinn)
As predicted , we were greeted on our arrival in Te Anau, New Zealand, with very heavy rain and it hasn't stopped raining since. We had an early cruise at Milford Sound booked this morning. We were about 3/4 of the way there when we were turned back due to a landslide!
The upside of all the rain is the beautiful waterfalls it creates that cascade down the sides of the mountains.
As predicted, I was not able to document week two on the BRP last weekend...the storm really put a damper on those efforts.
And trust me, I seriously considered going up there but the weather was just too unpredictable to chance it...Planning to go this weekend.

Stormy weather was predicted for this evening so I thought I would go for a drive and maybe shoot some stormy skies. I didn't leave soon enough because the storm started before I could get out of town or find a decent spot to pull over. I have never seen so much hail come down at once in my lifetime! The photos in the comments are what I could shoot out the car window when it started and then the hail in the street, after I was able to pull over and wait it out. This one was from my deck, about 2 hours after the first storm, and before the next one that's rumbling around out there right now really hits.

As predicted it was cloudy... in fact it was "light fog". I gave up waiting (and hoping) and headed 40 miles east where I managed to find a small gap in the clouds to photograph the eclipse in a tiny village with a nice old church. This explains the crosses.
I took this with my 10 stop Lee Big Stopper filter as it seemed the best way to deal with some of the risks of looking at the sun. I also used the LCD display.

The annual Liverpool Santa Dash event marked its 20th festive race in the city, with thousands of people donning their beards, hats and red (and blue) suits to race along the 5k route around the city centre in support of Claire House Children's Hospice. It is predicted that around 8,000 people took part in the charity event.

After a rainy start to the day, the sun eventually came out for the runners, who made their way around the course dressed in a range of outfits. While most opted for the Santa outfit, others came as elves and there was even a grumpy Grinch in the mix.

Wow look at that another Trona post has ended up in your feed, who could’ve predicted that? Trona 2005 leads the first of two cuts of a coal train to Trona late in the evening. The sun was almost completely set by this point and the train was doing no more than probably 15 mph. After getting to Trona later that night the crew would have to make a second trip back to the interchange at Searles to do this all over again. Out in these parts any road or railroad seemingly goes nowhere as it all just stretches through the empty desert for miles and miles.
On Friday, rain is predicted for Tucson, Arizona on Saturday afternoon. It arrived from Mexico early.
The weather was predicting clear skies in the morning, so my brother-in-law Bob and I headed up to Talkeetna to photograph the sunrise and see Denali, the highest mountain peak in North America. It sure was a good morning for it, with pink light hitting the mountain range and ice flowing down the Susitna River with mist rising from it. It was 6 degrees that morning, and my fingers hurt when they were thawing out, but it was worth it to see this sight. I could have raised the ISO to freeze the flowing ice's motion, but prefer the sense of movement. Talkeetna, Alaska, USA, November 2021

As predicted the hole in the sky let the arctic sun come flooding in. The whole feel of Lilliehöökbreen changed from brooding, steel grey to pure light, whites and blues. I made the decision to remain on the Plancius for just this zodiac trip out to see the glacial front due to my travelling partner feeling unwell and because the views over the glacier and the fjord I predicted would be "Otherworldly" as the sun appeared, I was right! Arctic landscapes in the arctic sunshine.

The predicted snow actually happened!
There hasn't been significant accumulation thus far, nor is there likely to be.
The street was too warm to even get a dusting.
Of course northern New Mexico and the higher elevations are another story. By the time the snow stops tomorrow morning some places up north or at higher elevation could have up to a foot.
The main portion of this storm is heading into the mid-west and is described as a possible mega-storm.
Derwentwater, Keswick, Lake District
The drive up was as predicted by the weather forecast - grey, dull, with periodic showers en route, but once we reached the lakes the snow covered peaks did their best to convince us we hadn't chosen the wrong destination. It was still overcast, although the sun was doing its best to lighten the greys as we parked up at Keswick's Lakeside car park. However, first priority of the day, breakfast in town and although it was now 9:30am very few eateries were open but we found one - a local shop for local people! A compulsory Cumbrian breakfast was duly ordered and consumed forthwith.
Afterwards Mrs R decided to potter about the shops and market stalls so I headed back to the car for my gear. My initial jetty shots from the first hour were bland and have already been consigned to the archives. As I'd already seen plenty of images of the submerged gate at the north end I decided to head there, but with the sky being so featureless, it was time to dust off my filters and have another crack at a few long exposures.
Now I know some of you are experts at the "wing it" method of calculating exposures, but I thought I'd play it safe and use the app from a well known filter manufacturer. What a waste of time... literally! All of the app calculated images were underexposed and so on to Plan B... wing it, and I must say a lot more fun.
This just happens to be the last image at 2 mins (I was aiming for 4 and pushing the ETTR theory) before the sun finally broke through and began dispersing the blanket cloud, although that didn't really matter... it was the flock of Canadian geese that photo bombed the shore line and put paid to any more tranquil shots.
Wilbur's been wrong every year since God knows when, but we love him anyway. I think when it's too cold, he likes to sleep in, and when it's too warm, well, he likes to sleep in.
Truth be told, I've not spoken to anyone who has actually seen Wilbur before May first and then no one is quite certain its really him.
It was once thought that you could use lesser celandine to predict the weather as they close their petals before raindrops. The leaves are high in vitamin C and have been used to prevent scurvy.
Snow is predicted tomorrow, will the plows be out?! Hah...not likely...so hedmre is another from the tops of 2018 folder and the one and only time I shot these moving.
The third Nor'Easter in a week dumped 18 inches of fresh snow on the Boston area during mid-March 2018. This misfortune for the citizens of the Commonwealth provided some good fortune to those of us of the rail persuasion in the form of a Keolis plow train operating on the MBTA northside routes.
A pair of rebuilt original ex Boston and Maine double track Russell snowplows dating from 1949 bracketing GMTX GP38-2 2636 (blt. Sep. 1970 as straight GP38 BO 4809) are on home rails as they work westbound on the former B&M Fitchburg Route mainline near MP 9.8 in this view looking west from the Jackson Street overpass. In this going away view the work train is crossing Elm Street and passing the historic Waltham Tower. The tower was built in 1928 and had call sign OD, and when retired 85 years later in June 2013 it was the last manned interlocking tower left in service on the MBTA system and in the state as a whole. The tower was also the location where the Watertown branch joined the mainline, once a through route from West Cambridge to here it was cut in the middle in 1960 and lasted decades longer as the Watertown Branch on the east end and the Bemis Branch on this end, though all of it is now removed.

Australian summers are characterized by heat - either a clear dry heat, or high heat and humidity, depending on one's location. This photograph was taken at Bendigo, Victoria in dry summer heat, with just one of our varieties of gum tree silhouetted against the sky.
(Today's temperature is 38 degrees, tomorrow is predicted to be 40).
The weather people predicted light breezes but found it a little difficult to stand still at times, set the camera up on a tripod and shielded it from the wind (breeze) and took several shots. Merged them in Photoshop and this is the result showing silky water and moving clouds, not what was hoped for but not as bad as it could be either, next time a longer lag between shots or, maybe I should find something useful to do on breezy days.
In anticipation of the cool front that was predicted for yesterday morning I made a trip out to Smith Point, a little peninsula that sticks out between Galveston Bay and Trinity Bay where the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory conducts three and a half months of raptor surveys each fall to monitor the migration of raptors as they travel south for the winter. At the peak of the migration it can be an unbelievable spectacle with tens of thousands of hawks in the sky above the “hawk tower.” It can be a little difficult to predict exactly when the big days will happen but if you are fortunate enough to hit the raptor jackpot, it will likely be something you will never forget.
Yesterday I didn’t hit the jackpot, but I was rewarded with some nice views of several raptor species. This young Sharp-shinned Hawk was one of several birds that made me glad I made the trip out. Even when the skies aren’t loaded with birds it is always fun to catch up with friends; the tower can definitely serve as a fun gathering place to geek out about birds.

For the first time in seemingly weeks Friday was predicted to be perfect bluebird weather. Coupled with the news just released the day prior that the Pan Am Railways acquisition by CSXT had been approved I figured I should skip my beloved ex Boston and Albany for once and go to the old Boston and Maine before the changes come. While it won't happen overnight, it will be quicker than we expect before blue dip or ugly patched GEs are rare and intermodal trains on District 3 are but a memory.
With that in mind a look at the turnover revealed that a 22K was tied down at Fitchburg scheduled for an early recrew to bring into Ayer and that an EDPO was out of East Deerfield headed east and counterpart POED was moving with work at Graniteville before going west. Throw in regular AYPO building in Ayer and it was an unusual busy morning to the point that you actually had to make a choice what you wanted to focus on!
After getting some nice morning shots of tied down 22K and a few MBTA trains a friend in Ayer said POED was going west first before the two eastbound freights and he recommended this spot that I'd never shot at before. Here is a big POED manifest hustling west on Main 1 through the interlocking at CPF Derby (MP 42.8/322.8) behind three C40-8s. The spring buds are just beginning to offer some color to the scene as a harbinger for tbr vast changes this railroad will see in the ensuing months.

I'm predicting everyone's first thought on this image: "where's the monorail?" Obviously there isn't one because it was a test shot in preparation for when the monorail finally did pass by. I liked the image so much that I decided to keep it. I decreased the sharpness a bit to evoke a dreamy vibe.

During the big snowstorm in Vegas, I headed right out towards Death Valley. I would photograph familiar places covered with snow - by the time I got to Shoshone it was evident that the snow missed DV. I thought I would take a few shots anyway.
The raven kept flying around and got in several images. In ancient Rome, priests (called Augers) predicted the future by observing the flight of birds. The bird indeed prophesied the future - that I would have lunch across the street at the (world famous) Crowbar.
Cherry Blossom Peak Bloom for 2018 is predicted to be March 27-31 by the National Park Service. This photo was taken a few years ago - the cherry blossoms are beautiful even under cloudy skies.
Having experienced a high the previous night from extensive auroras we hoped for a repeat night. NOAA forecasted a dip in aurora activity during the day but predicted increased activity by nightfall. As the day rolled by so did the clouds in the south of Iceland by Jökulsárlón. Hoping to find some clear skies Aaron, Alan, Rebecca, and I headed east after sunset towards Vestrahorn, where clouds were forecasted to subside by the morning hours. On our way we ended up stopping at Höfn for a langoustine dinner. The grilled langoustine was delicious: tender, buttery, and sweet. It set the stage for a wondrous night.
Once we arrived at Vestrahorn the near full moon aided us in scouting out the location. While scouting we noticed some faint aurora low in the sky. Though weak it was still a pleasure to see and photograph but soon the incoming clouds spoiled the show. Hence we called it a night in our Happy Campers and waited it out for the morning hours.
Snoozing away, Aaron suddenly opened our van door and yelled for us to get up at 5am. The majority of the clouds had cleared and the aurora activity picked up to a KP4. From then on time flew by as we blasted away until after sunrise.

Rain is predicted today here in the Chattanooga area (where I'm visiting my dad) for the first time in over a month, so that seems like a good time to post a bright sunny spider. This girl was lucky I spotted her web stretched across 11 feet of space between my dad's yard and the neighbor's! But then, she had a hand in making it obvious with her decorative tufts, a few of which you can see here. I'm posting a couple web shots, too, to show her extensive construction.

The last shot of this train from this short chase. Ice clings to the grass as LTEX 4465 leads an eastbound KYLE train between Edson and Brewster. The jointed rail and train glint the setting sun as golden hour falls over the frozen plains. NW Kansas faired pretty well from what was predicted with Winter Storm Blair. I was hoping for some winter action but minimal snowfall and freezing fog is all we received.
The predicted amounts of snow no longer reached the Amper valley. There was certainly more further south towards the Alps. Now it's all snow again from yesterday and it's getting milder again.

Predicting where an otter might bring ashore prey can be tricky. On this occasion today, it brought the fish out, not where I predicted, but about 15 feet in front of where we were lying!

Іван Хреститель прославляється Церквою, як «янгол, і апостол, і мученик, і пророк, і свічар, і друг Христів, і пророків печатка, і заступник старої та нової благодаті, і серед народжених пречесніший, і світлого Слова глас».
Іоанн Хреститель, Іоанн Предтеча - згідно з Євангеліями: найближчий попередник Ісуса Христа, що передбачив пришестя Месії, жив у пустелі аскетом, проповідував і чинив священні обмивання (занурення) іудеїв для очищення від гріхів і покаяння. Ці омивання згодом стали називатися таїнством хрещення. Він омив (хрестив) у водах річки Йордан Ісуса Христа, зробивши ритуальне занурення Його у води річки Йордан. Іоанн Хреститель був обезголовлений за бажанням іудейської цариці Іродіади, провідником волі якої стала її дочка Соломія (Мт. 14:8, 9). Іоанн Хреститель вважається історичною фігурою а згадка про нього у всіх відомих рукописах «Юдейських старожитностей» Йосипа Флавія більшість дослідників вважають автентичним текстом, а не пізнішою вставкою переписувачів-християн.
Четверте Євангеліє від Іоанна описує Іоанна Хрестителя як «людину, послану від Бога», яка «не було світло», але «прийшла для свідчення, щоб свідчити про Світло, щоб увірували через нього».
