In my opinion this one of the most valuable wonders which serves so much value to the Nevada and Arizona states. This wonder is photographed from "Mike O'Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge" which is going to be a great support to this Dam to stay healthier for longer time :)

Ohau C was the last station built as part of the Upper Waitaki hydro scheme, which began in 1968.

 

The Upper Waitaki hydro scheme involved building four hydro stations, along with two dams and six canals totalling 56 kilometres. About 50 million cubic metres of material was excavated for the canals and other earth works.

 

Ohau B and C were the last hydro stations to be built on the Waitaki hydro scheme, completing the scheme 56 years after construction first began on the Waitaki dam and power station in 1928.

Thats a lot of power though in this country there's just enough sun to produce 6V.

Almost all power is generated by burning the waste and oil. The islands are also covered by smaller or larger wind turbines.

There is a plan to set up much more bigt wind turbines, and then to transport the power by cable to mainland Scotland.

Looking downriver: the massive face of the dam; the power generation buildings; generator spillways; and the main dam spillways just beyond sight.

 

No power generation today because of low lake levels. Just enough water going through to keep the river navigable.

Funky exposure settings lead to this violet sky. This was a shot to check exposure, aperture, and ISO settings for another photo. The settings were definitely off, but produced a somewhat interesting image.

The camera was on the Black & White setting. A polariser was used for the blue sky and red filter over the lens.

Pelton Water Wheel at North Star Mine Museum and Power House in Grass Valley, CA. 10 feet in diameter, ran at 327 revolutions per minute, weighs 26,000 pounds and when operating, produced 71,000 horsepower. Now that is amazing!!!
