On the horizon lies Lake Michigan and the Port Sheldon site for burning coal by the train-car load to make steam that spins the turbines that produce electricity for business, household, and industry. Today the power to move vehicles of air, land, and sea is almost entirely fossil fueled. To replace that quantity of energy by volumes of electricity made by wind, flowing water and tidal action, as well as sunbeams will require, perhaps, double the number of towers and wires in view above. By then, though, more and more power will be created on rooftops and stored in basements and outbuildings at the home and neighborhood level. So, the need may not greatly expand to use transmission lines and towers and transformer stations to carry huge amounts of electricity from central generations out to the end user. In other words, a lot of power can come from the end-user instead of by electric companies. As an empirical question, though, it would be interesting to compare this 2023 view with the same composition in 2033 and 2043.

Ohau C is a hydro station located in the Mackenzie Basin, North Otago, New Zealand.
It has four 55.5 megawatt generating units, and a generation output of up to 212 megawatts.
Ohau C is a twin station with Ohau B, and both hydro stations have the same generating capacity and use similar equipment.
Water from Lake Ruataniwha flows through Ohau B, then goes into the Ohau C canal, which takes it to the Ohau C power station and out into Lake Benmore.
Ohau C was the last station built as part of the Upper Waitaki hydro scheme, which began in 1968.
The Upper Waitaki hydro scheme involved building four hydro stations, along with two dams and six canals totalling 56 kilometres. About 50 million cubic metres of material was excavated for the canals and other earth works.
Ohau B and C were the last hydro stations to be built on the Waitaki hydro scheme, completing the scheme 56 years after construction first began on the Waitaki dam and power station in 1928.

Celebrated by 18th century travelers in letters and journals, The Cohoes Falls, also called The Great Falls of the Mohawk, were regarded as the second most beautiful cataract in New York State after Niagara.
In 1831, however, town leaders built a dam across the Mohawk and harnessed the falls to fuel the turbines of the city's burgeoning textile industry. Over the next several decades, the predominant company, Harmony Mills, became the largest manufacturer of cotton in the United States, thanks to its control of local water rights. When all the mills closed in the wake of the Great Depression, city leaders ignored the potential of the falls for tourism and leased the flow rights to a series of power companies including Niagara Mohawk and Orion Power.
