Washington Water Power built its first hydroelectric generating facility on Monroe Street in 1890, and has been producing power from this location ever since. Located at the heart of downtown Spokane, the dam was instrumental in providing electric lighting for Spokane's streets and businesses as opposed to lighting via candles and oil lamps. The dam was rebuilt just before the 1974 World's Fair, and a new underground powerhouse was added in 1992, replacing the vintage 1900-era turbines and generators with a modern generating unit that produced twice the electrical power using the same amount of water flow. WWP also donated 5 acres for expos that later became part of the Spokane Riverfront development.
I walk past this power plant almost daily and at all hours. You get to know it. Christmas Eve morning it was moody. Maybe a bit angry. The weather was cold and grey, which is unusual for Los Angeles. Maybe everyone had the heat on that morning. The plant was working hard and the condenser towers were belching steam like volcanos. The birds weren't happy about it.

I tried to take advantage of the calm water on Saturday by taking burst shots on the drone and then blending them in PS. Not come out too badly.

I've been desperate to get out with my camera over the holiday but when I've had the opportunity the weather has been so flat and grey. This morning was looking promising though and checking the tide times for the Thames, low tide was almost exactly at the same time as sunset so the probability of a slack tide was looking good. Wasn't expecting to have the photography gods smile on me quite so well though :-)
Now comes the outlier in the street. Originally built in a California Bungalow style it has in recent years undergone extensive renovations and enlargement. You would never guess that just a few doors up the street is the little house with the red door.

It's Rainy Season and Hurricane Season for us right now in
South Florida (from June 1st to November 1st). We're seeing
'quite-active' weather-development (recently) on a daily-basis.
I have quite a backlog of sunset-images mixed with thunderstorm
activity, and I will be posting those 'weather-event' evenings over
the next few months, along with some summer wildlife captures
and probably some travel-photography, too. Enjoy your summer!

With rescue power ahead of the regular train, Amtrak 694 (Amtrak 68 once it reaches CPKC rails) passes the L'Acadie siding in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Qc this past Saturday afternoon. Both southbound and northbound Adirondacks had been cancelled the previous day. As far as I know, this is the first time a 9700-series P42C made its way to Canada.
