The destruction on the background is the power generator, destroyed by the Government soldiers. The city has little electricity; right now they have one to two hours a day, sometimes no electricity at all for a week. More then 1000 people have been killed since the beginning of the conflict. The population before the war was almost 100.000, now they think there are no more then 10.000 people left. Most of the people they have moved either in the surrounding villages, in Atma displaced camp near the Turkish border, or in Turkey. (Syria)

Terminal Commerce Building / North American Building / 401 North Broad (1930)

401 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA (northeast corner of Callowhill Street).

Occupying an entire city block at Broad and Callowhill Streets, this structure was touted as being the largest commercial warehouse building in the nation when completed in 1930. The Terminal Commerce Building cost $4 million to construct and was built by William Steele & Sons, a longstanding Philadelphia construction firm. The building offered about 13 million square feet of floor space, including showrooms and offices for the numerous firms that made their headquarters there. The massive edifice even had a freight station beneath it, which replaced the Reading's North Broad Street Freight Station and rail yard that had previously been on the site. Rail service was provided by the Reading's now-abandoned "City Branch" right-of-way, which passed underneath. The Terminal Commerce Building was reputedly used to manufacture tanks during WWII. And from the 1940s to 1973, it was the main U.S. Army Induction Center in Philadelphia, striking fear in the young men who entered or even passed by it. The Reading Railroad sold the structure in 1955, whereupon it became known as the North American Building. By the 1980s, it had become a low-rent office and light-industrial center. It more recently has been repositioned as a "carrier hotel" housing telecommunications, computer and other high-tech equipment. There are dozens of fiber optic lines into the building, large Internet servers, huge back-up power generators, and a number of telecom tenants. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Titahi Bay Transmitter is New Zealand's second tallest structure. It is an AM transmitter with a 212 meter tall radio mast insulated against ground at Titahi Bay in New Zealand.[1] There are now five stations transmitting from the site, Radio New Zealand National, the parliamentary network, Newstalk ZB, an Iwi radio station and Wellington Access Radio; see List of radio stations in New Zealand and Radio Stations in Wellington.

In 2004 the tower was refurnished, badly corroded parts were removed and replaced, the whole tower was sand blasted and repainted, and an array of LED warning lights were added at the behest of the NZCAA.

According to workers refurbishing it, scaling the tower takes 45 minutes. From the top there are views of the entire Kapiti coast region.

The site used to provide Radio New Zealand's shortwave service, these broadcasts used a series of shorter free standing masts supporting curtain arrays.

The land surrounding the tower is owned by the Department of Conservation, and is leased to Radio NZ for the transmitting towers, to the local Titahi Golf Club, and as farm land. The site is located within Whitirea Park, and is planned to come under the control of the Greater Wellington Regional Council.

Interestingly, only in recent years has the station's emergency power generator been replaced. The previous one was supplied by the American military after the Second World War, and was part of the driving machinery of a submarine which was no longer required.

The site was never used for overseas telephone links, which (before the advent of undersea cables and satellites) were provided by two New Zealand Post Office radio stations, Makara Radio (receiving) west of Wellington and Himitangi Radio (transmitting) near Himatangi Beach. Only a limited number of voice circuits were available, and overseas toll calls were expensive.

As the sun descended on the horizon, I captured this shot of 3 wind turbines, among the many dozens that can be found about 35km out of Canberra, between Bugendore and Tarago. The Capital Windfarm has transformed the landscape around the Lake George area. Travellers from Sydney on the Federal Highway into Canberra will now notice the huge wind turbines on the horizon.

DC 4605 leads the south-bound Southerner south of Timaru with four different classes of carriages behind it - an AD (1403), an AS, an AO and an AG luggage & power generator van.

The Southerners' time is running out. It's the 29th of December, 2001 and TranzRail is in the process of flogging off just about every part of the business, including the long-distant passenger services.

However, the Southerner was unwanted by the new buyers and is being kept running by way of a (Central & Local) Government subsidy while a viability study is being undertaken. Of course, the study could see no profitable future of the service and it ceased running about 7 weeks later on the 10th of February, 2002.

The carriages were allocated to the other two South Island passenger trains, that had growing patronage.

One of big evidence that the tsunami wave was totally big. PLTD Apung I (Diesel Main Power Generator) a floating mobile barge with approximately 200 tons of weight dragged 4 km from Ulee Lheue Port to center of Blancut village.

Now it became a tsunami monument, and surrounded with people Blangcut who was helped by global donation to rebuild people houses and life.

Another Story from Suara Merdeka Newspaper

Seorang lagi selamat, setelah terapung pada sebuah papan. more story.....

Red Army power supply in St-Petersburg, 1991...

Wind power in Spain is one of the technologies of the future where Spain is a leader in the field. Spain is the second leading producer of wind power in Europe (after Germany) and is in competition with the United States for second place globally.“Spain holds these positions as a result of the establishment of a stable regulatory framework, better understanding of the resource, and improved technology that have afforded considerable cost reduction in terms of initial investment, maintenance, and exploitation”

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. In windmills, wind energy is directly used to crush grain or to pump water. At the end of 2007, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 94.1 gigawatts. Although wind currently produces about 1% of world-wide electricity use, it accounts for approximately 19% of electricity production in Denmark, 9% in Spain and Portugal, and 6% in Germany and the Republic of Ireland (2007 data). Globally, wind power generation increased more than fivefold between 2000 and 2007.

Wind power is produced in large scale wind farms connected to electrical grids, as well as in individual turbines for providing electricity to isolated locations.

Wind energy is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it displaces fossil-fuel-derived electricity. The intermittency of wind seldom creates problems when using wind power to supply a low proportion of total demand, but it presents extra costs when wind is to be used for a large fraction of demand. However these costs even for quite large penetrations are considered to be modest.
