Axis Mundi draws inspiration from the crystalline structure of fluorite, which contains shapes similar to honeycomb. This artwork is made up of hexagons and squares that efficiently fill space without gaps. These patterns are remarkably elegant and balanced in their division of three-dimensional space.

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Based in Los Angeles, their work consists of larger than life geometric sculptures, often with pattern and texture that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Typically illuminated, the work celebrates the inherent beauty of form and pattern and represents their ongoing journey in exploring the myriad dimensions of geometry. HYBYCOZO is short for the Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, a nod to their favorite novel (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and was the title of their first installation in 2014. They continue to create under this name. In the novel earth was being destroyed to make way for a bypass. It lead Serge and Yelena to ask what it means to make art at a time where the earth’s hospitable time in the universe may be limited.

Q: Walk us through your creative process?
A: The focus of our creative process is to explore the intricate interplay between geometry, light, space and to inspire contemplation, wonder and a sense of place among our audiences. Geometry and pattern-making serve as the backbone of our creative expression. It is the framework through which we navigate the complexities of form, proportion and spatial relationships. Patterns, both simple and complex, have a profound impact on our perception and understanding of the world. They possess the ability to evoke a sense of order, balance and aesthetic pleasure. Pattern making and geometry offer us a means of storytelling and communication. These patterns serve as conduits for deeper exploration, provoking introspection and contemplation to uncover the underlying symbols embedded within the human psyche.
Q: What inspired the concept of LIGHT BLOOM?
A: Just as many cactus and desert plants have evolved to produce night-blooming flowers, adapting to their environment and thriving in darkness, our sculptures come alive after sunset, blossoming with light and transforming the night into a glowing landscape of art and geometry.

I just love wide angle lens. It is fun to take pictures with real 17 mm lens. I can enjoy feel from interesting spaces/places. More, althouh it is realy extreme wide angle, the pictures are very sharp and vertical lines are not curved.

We all had sleeves for our little toys.
Just back from a week's trip to the Maldives, 33 years since I was last there. While waiting for a Manta ray to come to the cleaning station I took this Powder-blue surgeonfish (Acanthurus leucosternon), also called a Powder-blue tang. Just infront of its tail fin on each side are horizonal fins that are as sharp as a surgeon's scalpel!. A very useful defensive mechanism!

After yesterday's posting of an explanatory sign for visitors, here is a view of how the powder magazine is laid out today. I should point out that the barrels are, of course, empty of black powder. Whilst this might have been the height of sophistication when constructed, it no longer comes even close to modern safety standards!.
Designed by Frenchman Jean Foncin in 1798 and named after James McHenry, a Scots-Irish immigrant and surgeon-soldier who became Secretary of War under President Washington, Fort McHenry was built after America won its independence to defend the important Port of Baltimore from future enemy attacks. It was positioned on Locust Point peninsula which juts into the opening of Baltimore Harbor, and was constructed in the form of a five-pointed star surrounded by a dry moat. The moat would serve as a shelter from which musketmen might defend the fort from a land attack. In case of such an attack on this first line of defence, each point, or bastion, was fortified, so that the invading army would be caught in a crossfire of cannon and musket fire.
Of course, the fort is best known for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from a half-hearted attack by the Royal Navy on 13-14 September 1814. It was during the bombardment of the fort that Francis Scott Key was inspired to write "The Star-Spangled Banner," the poem that would eventually be set to the tune of "To Anacreon in Heaven" and become the national anthem of the United States.
On 11 August 1939, the fort was designated a "National Monument and Historic Shrine," the only such doubly designated place in the United States. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on 15 October 1966.

L'Alpe d'Huez is one of the main mountains in the Tour de France. The climb is 13.8 km at an average 7.9 per cent, with 21 hairpin bends. It was first included in the race in 1952 and has been a stage finish regularly since 1976.
The race was brought to the mountain by Élie Wermelinger, the chief commissaire or referee.[1] He drove his Dyna-Panhard car between snow banks that lined the road in March 1952, invited by a consortium of businesses who had opened hotels at the summit.[2] Their leader was Georges Rajon, who ran the Hotel Christina.[3] The ski station there opened in 1936. Wermelinger reported to the organiser, Jacques Goddet, and the Tour signed a contract with the businessmen to include the Alpe.
The Powder Tower a main entrance into "Old Town Prague"
This was also the place where the coronation processions of Bohemian kings would enter the town. The Powder Tower thus marks the start of the Coronation or Royal Path to Prague Castle.
Construction began in 1475 and halted in 1488, probably due to the fact that the royal residence moved from the Old Town back to the Castle. Further construction works were only started in 1592.
Today’s name Powder tower has been used since the beginning of the 18th century, when the tower was used as a gun-powder storage place.
The Powder Tower is 65 m high, the observation gallery is 44 metres above ground, the spiral staircase is made of 186 stone steps.

La "Porta delle Polveri" durante l'ora blu. Essa fu costruita nell'XI secolo e fu una delle tredici porte che circordavano la vecchia città . Il nome deriva dall'uso di conservare la polvere da sparo durante il XVII secolo.
The "Powder Tower" during blue hour. It was built in the XI century, and it was one of the 13 gates that would allow entrance to the old town of Prague. The tower was used to store gunpowder during the XVII century, hence the name.
