This 1972 photo shows a woman sewing bags for cannon powder at Picatinny Arsenal. Picatinny began sewing powder bags in the early 1890s. Most likely, the first to do it was Mrs. Myron H. Cook, wife of the arsenal magazine keeper.

Paprika mixed with alcohol, then filtered to create an anthotype dye. This dye creates a pale yellow color.
The solution is filtered to ensure a smooth coat without residual grains of paprika. Paprika does not dissolve in alcohol as true powders do.
