The chicks kept a weather eye on us but never seemed alarmed except once when the carers gave the alarm call as I moved too quickly jumping over a fence. When they do this, the chicks adopted this "dead branch" look.
Here is newly fledged D responding as instructed when a Kestrel appeared in the sky, the only other time we saw this posture. He remained like this for several minutes, almost not moving.

A DSLR with a tilt-able LCD can really come in handy when you are shooting subjects that are at or near ground level. Of course, the LCD can only help you to a certain level of macro. Any more, you will have to lie down and take the shot the conventional way!

I have seen this only a few times where after being uncovered the brown snake will flatten themselves out and do a few lunges toward the intruder.
This fella was very aggressive, chasing off any other bird that tried to come to the water. He would raise his wings to look bigger then stab his beak in their direction.
