On this occasion, the three buglers were accompanied by a piper.

Since we put up our tree on Christmas Eve, I didn't get too many opportunities for the mandatory "dog in front of bokehed decorated tree" portrait - so here we go :)

As this is Thanksgiving weekend, it seems a good time to share a few views of Cornucopia ("horn of plenty") Wisconsin. Here's the post office. Corny is a great little town, and a good port-of-call for sailors between Superior and Bayfield.

Reenactors portraying the 17th Kentucky, prepare to fire from behind their hastily constructed defence works. This is part of the group I used to reenact with, till a few years ago. Check out their website here: www.thekingscompany.ca/TheKingsCompany/Welcome.html This is a staged shot from after the battle. Others to follow.

Cast iron finger post from the Staffordshire village of Oakamoor, minus an arm or two.

I didn't know this post box existed for weeks. It is hidden nestled into the demesne wall at the corner of our "block" by carnalway cross. It makes me wonder if it is still attended to by the postman. But i bet it is.

I will be adding high-res versions of these photos as I can. The negs are somewhat banged-up.

A post (remains of a groin) at Newcastle, Northern Ireland

I recently jacked my finger up on a band saw at work and this is after I had surgery to repair the ligaments and nerves in my left index finger.

The blade of the saw went into the joint of my first knuckle, i'm lucky I didn't cut off the whole thing.

Demonsrun is Wells Fargo number 2 unit. Comprising an eight wheel drive twin steering tractor and up to four trailers that can comprise either passenger cars, freight cars or tank trailers, she is powered by twin 19 litre Cummins QSK19 diesels driving the four back axles.

Armaments include a turret mounted guided rocket launcher, cab mounted heat seeking missiles and machine guns, and saw blades on the tractor, as well as a tractor mounted cupola and several gun emplacements on the leading trailer as well as a heavy pilot out front.

Part of the convoy is the assistance unit, a heavy three axle tractor built for torgue.

The assistance unit has a V8 Dodge gasoline engine and a Scania D11 diesel. Fitted with similar armaments to the main tractor, the assistance unit can be coupled to the front or the rear as needed, to assist with mechanical issues or steep gradients .

Todays plan was to get to the far bank and the base of the Pont 25 de Abril as I had set myself the task of photographing it from all angles. We caught an early ferry over the river to Cacilhas and Almada. We had good views looking back at Lisbon and of the bridge. We knew that we had to walk through a lot of dereliction, empty, vandalised and graffiti covered industrial buildings. There were a few fishermen about and it looked like some of them had claimed some of the empty buildings and were using them to store gear - or maybe living in them.

We never felt threatened although we were cautious. It was a fair way and finding a route to the bridge base was interesting. We made our way in and out of the derelict buildings and managed to find a fisherman's track hacked through 3 metre high vegetation. I don't think many tourists head that way. I got my photos.

Next up was the Cristo Rei, the statue of Christ overlooking Lisbon. It is modelled on the Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro. Opened in 1959 and much bigger than it looks from a distance. A lift takes you a fair way up then there are some narrow steps onto the viewing area. It was fantastic up there. We managed to find a route up the cliff from the bridge directly to the statue, a bit unorthodox but interesting. The pedestal is 269 feet high and the statue is 92 feet - it's impressive - with an incredible view.

Apologies to Contacts for the bombardment of shots, just trying new ideas. Itll be over soon! :)
