For this year's RCA Sercet Postcard exhibition I made work from fragments of Hasting's Pier washed up on the beach after the devastating fire.

My post cards are in amongst this years 2,800 post card donations...

12 individual 5x7 inch canvases to make one large painting. The theme is "Beginnings", which is appropriate with this painting as it has been almost a year since I have painted on canvas; I am beginning again.

Each individual canvas will be sent to one of twelve people around the U.S., Canada, and England.

I painted the canvases with acryllic paint in an relaxed impressionist style. The subject is a favorite spot on a North Shore, Oahu beach. (From a photo I took back in November of 2005)

Speightstown is very small but big with color, culture, character, and history.

For Two Bits Tuesday:

1.I collect post cards and albums (when I can find them).

2. I have my Grandmother to thank for my interest in postcards and for saving family photos. I never met her but I'm pretty sure the interest is genetic.

The main, round picture is actually a mosaic made from 26 single frames covering the whole visible firmament and shown as a fisheye projection. The center of the Milky Way in Namibia comes almost through the zenith and it's a remarkable experience to see that. From Carina to Cygnus. Small Magellan Cloud and even Saturn are also visible. Not to mention all the nebulas and a lot of airglow.

As the fisheye projection has the shape of a circle, the corners were all black in a square picture. So I filled them up with a combination of 2 different pictures also taken in Namibia. The dusty stars are from the neighborhood of the Barnard Galaxy and to boost up the roundness I mixed it with some star trails.
