loving the winter photos but hate being so cold :) we have a snow day here today. staying inside and keeping warm. hope you all are warm as well! xo

Sorry for including the usually touristy postcard image but :-

a) I found a new view point that was high up, and not near the whale bones, looking at the view,

b) the afternoon light fell beautifully across the boats, harbour and view to the hills and

c) I thought those who may never get a chance to visit would like to savour this.

S'pose I should have added text to the image "Greetings from Whitby"

The iconic orange Staten Island Ferry! It is one of the best bargains in New York City. Round trip takes about 30 min to an hour and you have unbelievable views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty and to top it off it is absolutely FREE!!!

Just a typical postcard shot, one of those pictures that's nothing special, but you just got to have it. Unfortunately the cloud covered Mt. Fuji during the 15 minutes allotted time slot at this look out point.

Another in my now complete series of pretty, picture postcard shots of Newcastle. Normal service wil be resumed shortly with a black and white picture of the central motorway and a night time long exposure of a service station on the A1.

For now though, enjoy the magnificent Tyne Bridge and the buildings built beneath it.

The view across The meadows is similar to how it was fifty years ago when I lived and worked here for a while. The path across here lead to the station and openair swimming pool

6x4lives challenge for January. Postcard to wish all my good friends a very "Happy New Year". The photo is poor - the felt is not really grubby!

This was an interesting situation; in the center of the town where I live, there is a wonderful duck pond with great views. But because of the tight paths around it, there was no place to set up my models for a photo shoot; until now.

To do repair work on the nearby spillway, the town drained most of the water creating a fairly large mud flat. Boldly hauling my stuff on a luggage cart out onto the former bed of the pond, I set up the shot to include the town hall and the flowering flora.

As serendipity would have it, when I downloaded the photos, all of the images had the the look of postcards from the 1930's.

The only processing I did was filter it through the Kodacolor filter which muted the color palette. Plus I added the type to give it that old post card touch.

The convertible diecast car is a 1935 Chevrolet Standard Roadster by Danbury Mint. The 1932 Ford by The Franklin Mint can be seen on the right.

An officially released post card for Westfarms "A regional retail development, is designed to be the most complete marketplace of its kind in New England. Westfarms site spans the boundaries of three outstanding Connecticut communities: West Hartford, Farmington and New Britain." Color photo by Bill Forcht. Scanned and remastered by The Caldor Rainbow.

From a time when malls were plastered on post cards as vacation-like attractions, this is one of a few post cards sold for Westfarms, presumably in the mid-1970s.

Much to take in here from this concourse shot of the timeless Westfarms Mall, which is estimated to be taken around its opening in 1974. Almost everything you see here of the classic concourse is now gone: first to go was the fountain, stage and soon after the Information tower, which were removed around 2001. The terrazzo tiles, which are still apart of the mall today, were twice removed from the concourse. Next, were the seating pits and enclosures, which slowly disappeared throughout the 90's, then finally all the ramps, stairs and planters, which were the last to go in 2010. The staircase seen straight ahead still remains today.

The twin obelisk structures seen here were one of a dozen or so throughout the mall, designed by artist Wen-Ying Tsai. These were the only feature to be removed fairly early on. These lighted towers were mildly interactive and reactive to sounds via hanging microphones strewn about the mall. Guests would light the towers based on sounds emitted. Tsai's pillars of this community would go nearly forgotten today as they are somewhat forgotten but also not listed on his history of works.

The vacant wall on upper right is where Lord & Taylor and its wing would eventually develop in 1982, after leaving Bishop's Corner on the other end of town. Note on the lower level, one of the wall facade doors is open, revealing a wing that suggests there's more than just undeveloped area back there.

"The Craft Showcase" and "Worth's", two staple chain retailers of malls during this time, would become long-time tenant Abercrombie & Fitch and currently Louis-Vuitton. On the far left of the upper level is "Sights & Sounds".

"Thom McAn" was as ubiquitous as Kinney Shoes and lasted until the 90's right in that spot. As for "Susan Terry", "Brooks" both women's fashion and "Vanguard" shoes.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2014

Dear Mother Nature ...

I know how very busy you are, but just a reminder, ... today, September 23, is the "First Day of Autumn" ...

Not sure if you are aware, but it is still OVER 90 degrees F here, and HAS BEEN, every single day for the PAST 4 WEEKS IN. A. ROW. !!! ... and this week appears to have MORE of the same on your "schedule" ... per that world wide webby thing that is so popular these days, so that we may monitor your activities.

Please check your records, and if there has been an error, we fully understand, and won't be holding any grudges ... but as soon as you can get to this matter, it would be GREATLY appreciated ... by so many!

Thanks so much,
