You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.

Yes, there live people here. Yeah, that car 's still driving. In this place, time stopped.

It’s been a rough week. A little over a week ago I got pretty badly injured on my knee during the football game. Already I’ve had an operation to the torn menisci, and high likely there will be another one within a few months. I’m only aloud to walk a few meters in the house, so making (landscape)photographs is impossible and I thinks it’s needless to say that hurts. But is it? My (very sweet) girl saw my struggle and came up with a wonderful idea. “Isn’t there a place I can drive you to? Where you just can get out the car and make a shot?”, she asked. “Uh, well, I don’t know… Maybe, yes! The tulip fields of course!” Actually I wasn’t feeling that much inspired anymore by the tulips, as I’ve shot them quite a few times now, and normally I would go out around sunrise or sunset. But it was all the more fun now. We drove a lot around the fields, searching for one which was easily accessible (even with crutches), and finally found this field. This one also has its lanes directly towards the sun, so I waited some time for them to line up and made this shot with the Nisi 15mm and its wonderful sunstar (in my opinion at least). A nice boost and a strong reminder to stay positive, hopefully soon enough I will be out and about again on my own, and my loved camera of course!

Thanks for having a look! All faves and comments are highly appreciated!

WOODLAND EDGE NATIVE

Asters are impossible to identify by the flowers alone and one must use the structure of the stems and leaves to make a more positive ID. Variances within a species can also occur as well as hybridization with other Aster species. In the field, I try to make an initial (best guess) identification. Images of the stem and leaf structures are taken and checked with website reference guides for a more accurate ID. Still this gives me only a higher probability of being correct!

Negative space can be a positive

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.

I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way

* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.

I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.

This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwithstanding, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.

RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).

I know Barn Owls screech and it's the Tawny owl that Twit twoo's but it was the only title I could think of LOL

I put up a Barn Owl nesting box in a big Oak tree not 100 yards behind my house. Last year I had success and Mum and Dad fledged three young. These are two young Barn owls (you can tell by the last bit of fluff on the tummy, not taken from behind my house, but not to far away at all.

I went across the field last night and saw a Barn Owl on the front of my box, the first of this year !!!!!!

I very rarely put the 2x extender on the 600mm, but I was super impressed with the quality...... Note to self, do it more often !!

Thanks to everyone that gave their opinion on my Bluebell image (positive or negative) I really appreciated the feedback xx

I admit it doesn't look perfect but it doesn't matter, I'm proud of it!

I paid attention to the symbols because that's the important thing.

Star, feather, butterfly, crescent, lotus flower and infinity, all symbols for positive dreams, worked into a dreamcatcher.

I had to face the "Zombie Apocalypse" and go shopping. Went into the two empty shops, missed the queues and paid a lot more for the stuff. It was worth it.

This is from the inside of the GMC I posted yesterday. The truck was on an abandoned farm east of Innisfail, Alberta.

Capture taken indoors at my mother-in-law's 80th birthday. More practice of low light handheld captures with the long lens and image stabilization. The results were spot on here with this capture of my eldest daughter hiding beyond some flowers while sitting at a table ... the eye detection snapped to her eye even while trying to hide from the camera.

Earlier this day she received some very bad news that on the surface makes her worried about the future ... but as life has taught us when things get tough, better times can be had and even blossom. I am positive she will continue to be able to blossom. That hidden mood here I thought was best brought out with the sepia tones applied within Ligthroom.

I've been home from work for two weeks now, and I have joined the ranks of people that no longer know what day it is. I'm OK with that! For 4 + years I have worked every weekend... and now.... every day is a weekend!

I have started several projects, finished none. Today I decided to start cleaning the basement. Bad decision. I've been opening boxes and seeing stuff that I haven't seen for years... some I'm looking at and wondering why the heck I bothered to put it in a box and save it in the first place... and then there is the really cool stuff that I haven't seen in years... that I end up taking out and playing with. Yeah... it's not going well... it's not going well at all. But tomorrow is another day... and it's a "weekend"!

My dearest Flickr friends we have to continue our positive thoughts and vibes this year, if we all get together, we may well make a difference, so let's do it!!!!

It's your outlook on life that counts. If you take yourself lightly and don't take yourself too seriously, pretty soon you can find the humor in our everyday lives. And sometimes it can be a lifesaver.
