This photo has both positive and negative values. The light almost white color of the panda being the positive shade, and the dark black color of the panda being the dark shade.
The panda itself could also be the positive space in the picture, and the background is the negative space.

This is a pattern from Stuart Hillard's 100 Quilts book. It was my first jelly roll and I ended up hating the designs (I'd originally bought them for Raj's quilt but disliked the prints so much I could use them for her gift).
A jelly roll has a surprising amount of fabric in it so these awful, twee prints have ended up making or appearing in 5 different quilts.
