This is a goldfinch-only feeder because only goldfinches can hang upside down like this to eat. Regular house finches can't do it, though it's rather funny to see them try.
But the other birds have access to lots of other feeders that the goldfinches don't fight for, so I like having a goldfinch-only one.
Saturday 17th August 1907
The Holden Memorial water fountain was originally positioned at the junction of Chapel Lane, Lidget and Station Road in Oakworth. The inscription reads: "Erected by the inhabitants of Oakworth as a token of affectionate respect for Sir Isaac Holden, Bart., 1807-1897".
It was unveiled on Saturday 17th August 1907. How the monument came about was described in the Keighley News of 24th August 1907: "The scheme for raising an Oakworth monument to Sir Isaac Holden's memory was started shortly after his death, a committee being formed, with Colonel Sugden as chairman, Mr. John William Hudson as secretary and treasurer, and representatives from all the religious and political organisations of the village. A fund was easily raised, without anyone being pressed in the least to subscribe, and it is significant that not a single subscription was sought for outside Oakworth, the memorial being thus a purely Oakworth affair." There were a few delays, with it was fitting that the memorial was finally created on the tenth anniversary of Sir Isaac's death and the one hundredth anniversary of his birth.
The proceedings on the 17th of August were overseen by chairman W. W. Vint. A crowd of several hundred local people had gathered. Having given a short speech, Vint introduced guest of honour John Brigg, MP for Keighley. Keighley News: "Mr. John Brigg, taking the cord attached to the fasteners at the top of the fountain, then pulled away the large Union Jack in which the memorial had been shrouded, and the crowd gave three cheers as the covering fell away, exposing to view a handsome structure of Grecian design, worked out in red and grey granite, with a gold-lettered inscription on the round moulded base." Further speeches were given by John Crowther (Chairman of Oakworth District Council), Sir Swire Smith, James Ellison Haggas and Colonel Sugden. Several photographs of the occasion were captured by Harry Heaton of Oakworth (one of which accompanied the article in the Keighley News).
A description of the fountain was given in the Keighley News: "The memorial, it may be mentioned, is a structure of pleasing appearance. It is in the Grecian temple style. The basement is composed of three steps in Yorkshire stone. Upon this rests a moulded circular base of red granite, with a tap on either side pouring into bowls of grey granite, all highly polished, and making a pretty harmony of colour. At the bottom on one side is a recess for a dog trough. Above the base is a moulded cornice and six columns of polished granite, supporting a cupola, or dome-shaped top, and under the canopy is a polished moulded vase for flowers, and the dome is finished by a pointed vase finial."
When Holden Park opened in May 1925, the fountain was repositioned just inside the entrance, in front of the remnant of the portico for Oakworth House. (As seen in the Lilywhite Ltd. postcard from around 1930.) When the War Memorial was erected in that position in 1937, the water fountain was placed along the path that runs between the bowling green and the grottoes. At some point the columns and cupola were removed.

Our friend had a procedure that involved putting a bubble of gas into his eye. He needs to keep his head parallel to the ground for 23 hours a day for the next week so that the bubble puts pressure on the his eye in the right way and fixes the problem he has been having. Fortunately, there is equipment available to help make it possible to keep in such an unnatural position.
