July 2 ** Late in the evening ten of the guns were placed in position at different points ready for service next day. The Howitzers were kept in the rear as no place was found from which they could be used with advantage.
July 3 ** The ten guns were actively engaged.
July 4 ** In the evening about dusk began the march to Hagerstown.

Sorry for the shitty picture quality, but this morning BK decided she was going to perform an acrobatic routine that involved jumping up onto the back of this (very unstable) office chair and then turning herself around several times. The chair finally started to lean backward, so Ian tried to help her down safely so she didn't fall. She mewed angrily, like he was seriously cramping her style.
This is the same cat who can't walk across the back of the couch or jump from the floor to the bathroom sink (without using the toilet as a stepping stone) because she has such awful balance.

One of the churches located around Union Square (Piata Unirii) that managed to survived Ceausescu's plan for creating his House of the People, the Civic Center.
This church is listed as a monument of architecture, on the official list of historical monuments.
It is named after Constantin Brâncoveanu's sixth daughter, who built an earlier church on the site in 1744.
The initial church was burnt down soon after.
In 1751 a second church was built; but that was also later damaged, during an earthquake in 1838.
Building work almost immediately started on a third church, but that too proved unstable and just 40 years later it was replaced by the current, orange-coloured, Neo-Romanesque building.
The earthquake of 1940 caused cracks, which whre repaired in the 1960s, only to be damaged again in the massive earthquake of 1977.
Domnita Balasa Church is a neo-romantic and neo-Byzantine style building, large, showing a cross-shaped plan, plus a polygonal apse of the altar.
The first church built on these places, between 1743 and 1744, was founded by Lady Balasa and her husband Manolache Rangabe also known as Lambrino.
After it was destroyed in 1871, and again in 1883, a memorial stone was out on the place of the altar.
The halidom has a very Byzantine style, with many western elements – particularly the stained glass especially ordered in Germany, with the emblem of Brâncoveanu family and of Tara Romaneasca.
In 1838 an earthquake occurs, which severely affects the church.
But until 1842 another one is built in neo-Gothic style, with the support of Safta Brancoveanu, founder of the Brâncovenesc Hospital.
Being degraded because of the flooding, in 1881, this new building was demolished.
The present church was built during the reign of King Carol I and Queen Elizabeth; the construction lasted 4 years (1881-1885).
The oil painted interior was carried out in Neo-Renaissance style by the Viennese painters Kott and Rihofsky.
The architectural plan, made as a cross, turns into an impressive building in Neo-Romanian style.
An element with a significant artistic value, onemight even say unique, is the chandelier made in Vienna.
Other interesting objects are the two arm chairs positioned near the altar, on the left.
Here stood the king and queen when they attended the church service, which can be evidenced by the presence of the royal emblem on the back of the arm chairs.
Inside the church we can find, under are two side niches, the tombs of Lady Balasa (1693-1752), the sixth daughter of Constantin Brancoveanu and Lady Zoe Brâncoveanu (1800-1892), wife of Prince George Bibescu.
The tomb of Lady Balasa, "Sorrow", was made by sculptor Ion Georgescu, and the monument Lady Zoe Brancoveanu, on the opposite side, was made by the French sculptor Jules Roulleau.
Originally, these statues stood in front of the church, but were hidden inside so they will not draw Nicolae Ceausescu’s attention.
This did work - Domnita Balasa church escaped "Ceaushima", the massive demolition project launched by the mad dictator.

Construction on the Integrated Sciences Complex (ISC) continues as more than half of the 320 piles to support the foundation of the new building have been driven into bedrock.
Each pile consists of two sections. The bottom sections are 95 feet long and the top sections vary in length depending upon the required depth to reach into bedrock. Those used recently are 85 feet long. Each pile weighs approximately 47,000 pounds.

Ms Scott's management ruled out a pit shoot, so we were positioned at the back of Somerset House by the mixing desk instead. However the rain meant everyone had their brollies up, so regular portable steps weren't gonna get us elevation over the brollies in this case. Cue us clambering up the handily-placed lighting tower! Would have been stuffed with out that. Shot with a 200-400mm on my crop D7000.

Life has gotten in the way in the last week or so. Have not used the camera much.
But this morning my days are starting to look better. Spring is coming because my yellow shafted northern flicker came to visit. I am so excited. He just made my morning. I got so many photos of him and he stayed on the bird feeder post for so long before he started to eat. I was so excited and I hope you enjoy the photos. ;) ;)

The head used here is a $35 Fire Girl Toys head sculpt. Eyes are static, but it is a cute sculpt and not too big or too small.
Open to suggestions for what to name this head sculpt. The 2024 S07C she's on is likely not her final body.
