Early starts are made all the more worthwhile when Barn Owls can be seen.
One of the local owls swoops past my position on a small hillock as it hunts, again successfully on this occasion.

About
This is the interior of the gothic Saint Rombolds Cathedral in Mechelen, Belgium.
Building started in the 13th century and it was inaugurated in 1322, but finished as it is today around 1500.
Apparently only the tower of the cathedral is a member of the UNESCO World Heritage list, not the rest of the Cathedral, can you actually believe that kind of crap ???
There are some other (non-fisheye) interior shots of this cathedral here :
To get an idea of the outside of this magnificent cathedral, you can have a look at :

I really liked the composition of this frame. The guy's hat and instruments had such character!!! The only bad thing was he had a busy street right behind him. I tried shooting this in different angles to minimize the cars but couldn't catch a decent angle. I am not really sure how to handle an angle like this?

The Peacock Lake was a fan-shaped lake with multiple colors of blue, green, yellow, brown and white. With these multiple colors, thus the name it belongs.
It is one of the cascading lakes in ' Nine-Clan Villages' or Jiuzhaigou.
The 'Nine-Clan Villages' was inhabited by various Tibetan and Qiang peoples for centuries
Now, the Jiuzhaigou Valley ( 九寨溝) is a nature reserve in the north of Sichuan, a province in south western China. It is known for its many multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.
It belongs to the category V (Protected Landscape)in the IUCN system of protected area categorization.
Importantly, the valley escaped damages from the severe earthquake in Sichuan several months ago
Thank you, friends of Flickr, for your kind comments and encouragement.

IT'S AN ALBINO PYTHON
Took this shot in the dry desert of Tucson, Arizona. (SOCC)
He is behind glass. And no, I don't like snakes, AT ALL :), but I did like this shot :)
Interesting Stuff:
"Most members of this family are ambush predators, in that they typically remain motionless in a camouflaged position and then strike suddenly at passing prey. They will generally not attack humans unless startled or provoked, although females protecting their eggs can be aggressive. Reports of attacks on human beings were once more common in South and Southeast Asia, but are now quite rare.
Larger specimens usually eat animals about the size of a house cat, but larger food items are known: some large Asian species have been known to take down adult deer, and the African rock python, Python sebae, has been known to eat antelope. Prey is swallowed whole, and may take several days or even weeks to fully digest.
Contrary to popular belief,[by whom?] even the larger species, such as the reticulated python, P. reticulatus, do not crush their prey to death; in fact, prey is not even noticeably deformed before it is swallowed. The speed with which the coils are applied is impressive[peacock term] and the force they exert may be significant,[vague] but death is caused by suffocation, with the victim not being able to move its ribs to breathe while it is being constricted."
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
"IF SOMEONE HANDS YOU A SNAKE, IT IS WISE TO DROP IT FAST."
God doesn't want us to carry those "snakes" around with us. God wants us to drop them and move on. God wants us to forgive and to smile. God wants us to let go and to heal. God loves us and wants us to love as well. God wants us to go through life lightly with laughter on our lips, a joy in our step, and the peace of Heaven in our hearts. The next time then that someone hands you something poisonous don’t hold it close. Drop it fast. Then you can spend your day happily holding your loved one’s hand, smelling the flowers along the side of the hill, watching the sun shine down on the leaves, and letting your own spirit sing. ~ Joseph J. Mazzella ~ "To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to realize that the prisoner is you." Corrie Ten Boom
ASK, SEARCH, KNOCK
Matthew 7:7-12 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a SNAKE? Of course not! So if sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him."

Hughenden Manor
Home of the British Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, who lived here from 1848 to 1881
In 1941, Hughenden Manor was requisitioned by the Air Ministry for top-secret cartography work. It was code-named "Hillside".
Civilian artists, architects and draughtsmen, both male and female, were recruited from all over the country and sent to Hughenden Manor, or Hillside, to produce up-to-date bombing maps.
Hughenden map makers produced maps for targets like Berlin, Hamburg, and Dresden and also for strategic missions like the Dam-Busters raid, the rocket factories at Peenemunde, and the Eagle’s Nest—Hitler's mountain retreat.
Because of these important activities, Hughenden Manor, or "Hillside", was at the top of Hitler's hit list.
It was not until 2005 that National Trust researchers discovered details about the Manor's actual use.

Christmas 2024
Long ago, situated on a small hill, this vast barn was the center of the farm, full of animals, sounds and various members of a family doing chores. Today with its doors left open, it is only an afterthought. Once prominent business men and women often find in their old age that past accomplishments are for their memories only, not others.
Back in 2006, I was in prime position at NIU to catch the awesomeness the Union Pacific was putting on the Proviso to Council Bluffs manifests. For a few trips when it wasn't the heritage units or CNW "Twins", Proviso assembled the Olympic SD70Ms and the United Way SD40-2 for a rather patriotic trio.
I had just gotten done with class for the day and traced the trio only to find it had already cleared Cortland. I jumped in the truck and zipped over to Rochelle just in time to grab this shot west of the diamonds. Why I didn't chase it from here, I don't know, but I'm pleased with what I got!

The Impala was introduced in 1958 positioned as top of the line Bel Air coupes and convertibles. From the windshield pillar rearward, the 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Impala differed structurally from typical Chevrolets. Hardtops had a slightly shorter greenhouse and longer rear deck, giving the impression of an extended body. The wheelbase of the Impala was longer than the lower priced models, although the overall length was identical.
It was a change from the 1955–1957 shape, which, in turn, was a substantial move away from the conservative Chevrolets of past years — longer, lower, and wider than its predecessors.
The sharp tailfins of the 1957 gave way to deeply sculptured rear fenders. Three taillights each side would become an Impala hallmark whereas lesser models had two and wagons just one. Special crossed-flag insignias sat above the side moldings plus bright rocker moldings and dummy rear-fender scoops. 1958 was the first year of dual headlamps.
Underneath this new body was a new chassis. The standard perimeter-type frame was abandoned, replaced by a unit with rails laid out in the form of an elongated "X." Chevrolet claimed that the new frame offered increased torsional rigidity and allowed for a lower, yet still roomy passenger compartment. In this design, a transitional step between traditional construction and the later fully unitized body/chassis, the body structure was beefed up in a number of areas (most notably the rocker panels and firewall) to create a solid package. However, this frame was not as effective in protecting the interior structure in a side impact crash, as a traditional perimeter frame.
With a six-cylinder engine, a Chevrolet Bel Air Impala started at $2,586, while $2,693 bought a V8. In all, 55,989 convertibles and 125,480 Sport Coupes were built, 15 percent of production. Interiors held a two-spoke steering wheel and color-keyed door panels with brushed aluminum trim. No other series included a convertible. Impala signaled Chevrolet's entry into the mid-price field, even if the design was less radical than planned. In addition to style and vigorous performance, advertisements marketed its "quick, eager-to-please handling that lets you know you're the boss."
New for 1957, Ramjet fuel injection continued to be available as an option for the Turbo-Fire 283 V8. 1958 Impalas equipped with this option are rare and highly desirable as collector cars.
Longer, lower, and wider — a recurrent theme — all Chevrolets had either a full-coil or air ride suspension, displacing the old rear leaf springs. A new "Safety Girder" X-type frame reduced height without headroom loss. A 283 cu in (4,640 cc) engine was now the standard V8, with ratings that ranged from 185 to 290 horsepower. A big-block 348 cu in (5,700 cc) Turbo-Thrust V8 was a new engine option, descended from a truck engine, producing 250 hp (190 kW), 280 hp (210 kW), or 315 hp (235 kW). The 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Impala helped Chevrolet regain the number one production spot in this recession year.

This morning I tumbled out of bed in my Cocoa Beach at some horrible wee hour to watch Endeavour launch for her 25th and final flight. It was totally worth it. Zack and I arrived at the press site in time to sign up for a van to the Banana Creek viewing area, which presents a beautiful wide open view across the water.
I had set up my D700 at the launch pad, which left me with the D60. Zack positioned our Mamiya RZ67 on the tripod, so I shot this handheld.
The clouds thickened quickly, threatening to scrub the launch and creating a nighttime-ish environment for the event.
Liftoff came suddenly. I kept expecting a scrub, and despite the countdown broadcast, I didn't believe the shuttle was really blasting off until a second or two after I saw the first plumes billowing from the pad. As I watched Endeavour ascend quietly, I willed her to make some noise. (It takes a few seconds to reach us.) She finally began to crackle and pop as she ripped through the air. Then the vibrations began. Watching a launch from anywhere is awesome... but when you're this close, you FEEL the roar, and it's intense.
Many folks were bummed that she disappered into the clouds so quickly. I didn't feel cheated since I'd seen Discovery launch into a clear blue sky a few months ago; today's weather created a different scene.
I'm actually kind of glad I only had the D60. Since its buffer fills pretty quickly, I took my time in between snaps to experience the launch.

A wonderful cloudy evening on the shore of Lake Erie like created for some moody black and white pinhole photography. I headed to a previously photographed location where I really liked the rock layers positioned perfectly to interact with the incoming lake waves. In many ways, photography there is just like along a rocky ocean coastline. I really liked how the horizon line was blending in with the sky even in color, in blue tones. I did not really know how the scene would turn out in black and white and and in a pinhole photograph on top. And unlike digital, I did not know how it turned out even after clicking the shutter ... #etbtsy

I started travelling internationally right after finishing college when I took a teaching position in Kuwait. Over the decades of my career, my partner and I have continued to work in or explore different parts of the world. More recently, since taking early retirement, we manage to spend around five months away during Canadian winters.
I kept track of all the places with a blogged list. In 2018, I decided it would be useful to find a single, personal image to represent each country I've visited. I have put these into a single Flickr Album. A photograph may occasionally be updated if we have a return visit.
These are organized alphabetically. You should be able to go forward or background from the image's main page where you can also see the names, and dates. In most cases the EXE date is correct. Some images may have been scanned and dates approximated.
