Very interesting, learned a lot from this exercise. Probably could have seen more of a dramatic difference between the shots if I had a larger house.

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, who made his first foreign visit in this position specifically to Ukraine.
“We are grateful to NATO for its support of Ukraine from the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. Thank you very much for your first mission and decision to be in Ukraine. Thank you very much. This is a very strong signal for us from NATO and professionals,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The main topics of the meeting were preparations for the next meeting in the Ramstein format and our state's defense needs. The President noted that one of Ukraine's top priorities was the implementation of the agreements reached at the NATO Summit in Washington on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. The Russian dictator does not want the war to end, and only Ukraine's strong position and pressure on Russia can force the aggressor state to establish a just and lasting peace.
Special attention was paid to the operational launch of the NSATU mission “Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine.” According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine is counting on concrete results of its work, in particular, on strengthening coordination in military assistance.
The Chair of the NATO Military Committee assured that the North Atlantic Alliance is ready to fulfill all its commitments, as it considers Ukraine an integral part of the transatlantic defense architecture.
“The message I would like to convey not only to you, but to everyone, is that NATO is on your side. We are determined to fulfill all our commitments and to defend all the values and principles that we share,” he added.
In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Giuseppe Cavo Dragone discussed the continued military assistance from NATO member states and direct investment in the domestic production of long-range drones based on the Danish model. At one of the defense industry enterprises, they got acquainted with the production capacities and characteristics of Ukrainian long-range weapons and spoke with the people working there.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the employees for their service to the state and for their work, which every day brings tangible results and strengthens our army with domestically produced weapons; he also presented them with state awards.
“Thank you for your work. It's very gratifying to see that we have something to show, and it's not theoretical – it’s your tangible result. A real result that helps us and is feared by the Russians, the enemies of our state. It’s a great pleasure to be here with our NATO colleagues. It's truly rewarding when they see the high level of achievement Ukraine has reached during this war. The level of domestic production during wartime is exceptionally high,” the President said.
Strobist 102 - Position - Distance
Light has DOF
Top left: At f4.5, we see that the light switch and surrounding area are evenly exposed, and note the distant from the flash is further.
Top right: At f8.0, the switch is dimmer now. We see that roughly middle of the frame is evenly exposed. Distant from flash is shorter now.
Bottom pics: Area of exposure is further reduced and distant from flash is shortest.

Parent's night at Hinu's ballet class today. Her Oma has been taking her to ballet since she was two and she was even in the big Nutcracker performance this year for the first time. I'm so proud of her and so grateful to her Oma for doing this for her.
It was hard to get pictures - the full benches along one wall faced the windows (where noone sat) and the back wall faced the mirrors. Which meant either funky light, or lots of photos with lots of background people in them. I happened to line up just behind the teacher here. It would be so much fun to get some good captures - but nearly impossible on Parent's Day. But next year I'll have a better lens! ;) And that will hopefully mean I can do more close-ups thereby circumventing the background-people-problem.
{Project 365 - Day 7}
I have seen a few of these types of pictures floating around so it is certainly not an original idea but it was my first try at something like this. Believe me.....it's a pain in the a$$. If you attempt it, make sure you bring your patience with you.
To get this shot here is what you need: LUCK....LOTS OF IT or some fancy shutter releases that work with sound or movement.
How I got it:
Small fish tank filled with water, dark blue cardboard for the backdrop and light blue construction paper for the bottom part. The only reason I used the light blue paper was because I had a light behind the tank that kept showing up in the pictures so I tried covering the plastic so you couldn't see the white part. That particular light was a regular small florescent light (similar to something you would mount under a cabinet or work bench). I also had my flash positioned above the tank pointing down on it. Since I don't have any fancy stands or anything, I used a few clamps and my ring stand from my classroom to keep it in place. I believe it was set to 1/8th power with a snap on diffuser on it. The rest was just lucky timing with dropping the limes. I just kept it on continuous release and held it as I dropped the fruit.
St Peter's church at Kinver stands in a commanding position on high ground overlooking the town below from Kinver Edge. It is an impressive red sandstone building dating back to the 14th century but much altered in the following centuries, with large chapels flanking the chancel added in the Tudor period and a north aisle built as recently as the 1970s.
The interior is equally imposing with styles both ancient and modern, the new north aisle being a particularly successful addition, surpising to see such a clearly contemporary feature so at ease with its medieval surroundings. The furnishings and glass are mostly of the Victorian period though there are several earlier elements of note and a particularly striking canopy/lantern in the south aisle, uniquely composed of stained glass panels.
The church is normally kept locked except for Friday and Saturday mornings, but visitors on the latter will be made very welcome (as I was) on the tea and coffee morning, and indeed one would be hard pushed to think of a nicer setting for one.

Richmond Castle in North Yorkshire stands in a commanding position above the River Swale close to the centre of the town of Richmond. It was originally called Riche Mount, 'the strong hill'. The castle was probably constructed from 1071 onwards as part of the Norman Conquest of Saxon England as the Domesday Book of 1086 refers to 'a castlery' at Richmond in that year.

William the Conquerer had put down the 1069 rebellion at York which was followed by his 'Harrying of the North' - an act of ethnic cleansing which depopulated large areas for a generation or more. As further punishment King William divided up the lands of north Yorkshire among his most loyal followers. Alan Rufus, Count of Penthievre in Brittany received the borough of Richmond and began constructing the castle to defend against further rebellions and establish a personal base for one of the most extensive Norman estates in England which covered parts of eight counties - the Honour of Richmond. The Dukes of Brittany became the owners of the castle though it was often confiscated for various periods by English kings.
One record which survives from the 1190s names the knights who were responsible for garrisoning various sections of the castle walls. From this list we read that, for example, Torphini, son of Robert Manfield was responsible for the section of the castle wall from the kitchen to the brewhouse.
The original stone Norman castle appears to have lacked an obvious final refuge or 'keep' but a 100-foot-high keep of honey-coloured sandstone was constructed at the end of the 12th century by the later Duke Conan. This keep was probably completed by King Henry II and had 11-foot-thick walls. At the same time that the keep was probably completed, Henry II considerably strengthened the castle by adding towers and a barbican outwork in front of the main gate. Henry III and King Edward I spent more money on the site including Edward's improvements to the keep interior.
In addition to the main circuit of the wall, there was the barbican in front of the main gate which functioned as an 'air lock' - allowing visitors and wagons to be checked before entry to the main castle. On the other side of the castle overlooking the river was another enclosure or bailey called the Cockpit which may have functioned as a garden and was overlooked by a balcony. A drawing of 1674 suggests there was another longer balcony overlooking the river side of Scolland's Hall, the Great Hall.
As a castle Richmond had fallen out of use by the end of the 14th century and did not receive major improvements after that date. A survey of 1538 shows it was ruinous but paintings by Turner and others and the rise of tourism and an interest in antiquities led to repairs to the keep in the early 19th century.
The castle became the headquarters of the North Yorkshire Militia in 1855, with a military barracks constructed in the great courtyard. The barracks were the home of Boy Scouts founder Robert Baden-Powell for two years until 1910 while he commanded the Northern Territorial Army but the barracks building was eventually demolished in 1931.
The castle was used during the First World War as the base of the Non-Combatant Corps made up of conscientious objectors - conscripts who refused to fight. It was also used to imprison some conscientious objectors who refused to accept army discipline and participate in the war in any way. These included 'the Richmond 16' who were taken to France from the castle, charged under Field Regulations and then sentenced to death, these death sentences then being commuted to ten years' hard labour.
As presented today Richmond Castle has one of the finest examples of Norman buildings in Britain including Scollands Hall, the Great Hall of the castle. The keep has a restored roof and floors but is shown with the original 11th century main gate arch unblocked. This arch is now in the basement of the later 12th century keep which was built in front of it, the main gate then being moved to its present position which was dominated by the adjacent keep while the original arch we see today was filled-in to secure the keep.
Today the site is looked after by English Heritage and easily accessed from Richmond's market place.
