Five World War II concrete anti-tank cylinders, standing upright near Pakenham Watermill, not their original position, they would have been used as part of road block for the River crossing. There are other deposits of anti-tank cylinders along this road, there is a scattering of the small concrete anti-tank cylinders in and around the villages of Ixworth and Pakenham.

These are of a standard pattern used on road blocks. The simplest of the removable roadblocks consisted of concrete anti-tank cylinders of various sizes but typically about 3 feet high and 2 feet in diameter; these could be manhandled into position as required. Anti-tank cylinders were to be used on roads, and other hard surfaces; deployed irregularly in five rows, chains or steel cables could be passed through the centre, making them a more difficult object to overcome. Bbricks or kerbstones were scattered nearby to stop the cylinders moving more than 2 feet. Cylinders were often placed in front of socket roadblocks as an additional obstacle.

Replaced with a more effective alternative, the anti-tank buoy was a simple cylinder of concrete, but the advantage of the buoys was that it could be used to block or unblock a road quickly. Passing a rod or crossbar through a pair of buoys formed a wheeled axle that could easily be rolled into place and when the axle was removed the buoys could be separated and stood up. Although easily knocked over, the conical shapes could not be rolled very far, they would move unpredictably and out of the field of view of a tank driver, making it difficult to avoid them, later they were judged to be ineffective and phased out.

This is a shot from our camping position at Mt Potts in New Zealand looking over at the hill (Mount Sunday) where they built the Edoras set for the Lord of the Rings films.

The scenery was absolutely incredible here and I can see why it made for such great footage on the film.

There's more info on the set and a video showing it here

I have a full panorama of this scene, but I'm not too happy with the softening which the canon software has done. I may try again with PTGui or similar.

This is the same Leopard that's on my profile page...and was taken through the glass, after he came up to me and stopped and had a look around..:O))

I had to clone out my reflection on the glass as well...:O)))

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ~ The Amur Leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is critically endangered. It is one of the rarest felids in the world with an estimated 27 to 32 individuals remaining in the wild (2007 snow track count).

Its common names are Amur leopard from Amur River or Far Eastern Leopard.

Appearance ~ Of the eight subspecies the Amur, or Far Eastern leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) shows the strongest divergence in coat pattern. The coat is pale cream (especially in winter) and has widely spaced rosettes with thick, black rings and darkened centres. The length of the coat varies between 2.5cm in summer and 7.5cm in winter.

Status in the wild and in zoos ~ The Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is the northernmost of the eight leopard subspecies. The Amur leopard's range is overlapping with that of the Amur tiger or Siberian Tiger which range extends further to the north. The Amur leopard's historic range extended throughout northeastern ("Manchurian") China, the southern part of Primorsky Krai in Russia and the Korean Peninsula. This range shrank dramatically during the 20th century, due primarily to habitat loss and hunting. Today, it is critically endangered with only 27 to 34 individuals remaining in Southwest Primorye. There are probably up to 10 animals scattered throughout the Chinese Jilin and Heilongjiang Provinces, with the majority of animals concentrated near the Russian border.

The Amur leopard probably went extinct in the wild in South Korea in the late 1960s, although some recent, unconfirmed reports suggest that a few leopards may remain in and around the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. There are likely still leopards in the rugged northern region of North Korea near the Chinese border, and it is also likely that animals from Southwest Primorye in Russia occasionally cross the border into North Korea, but reliable information is lacking.

The Amur leopard is listed as Endangered by the IUCN and is on CITES Appendix I for protection status.

There are approximately 300 Amur leopards in captivity, mostly in zoos in Europe, North America and countries of the former Soviet Union. Most, but not all, of these leopards are in zoos participating in managed conservation breeding programmes.

Ecology ~ Male Amur leopards weigh 32-48 kg, with exceptionally large males up to 60-75 kg. Females are smaller than the males at 25-43 kg.

The main prey species of the Amur leopard are roe and sika deer, along with hares and badgers.

Whilst it has been found in other regions that leopards do not do well in areas where they share territory with tigers, this has not proved to be the case in Russia. Studies have indicated that an increased tiger population in the Southwest Primorye area has not adversely affected the leopard population.

Amur leopards in zoos show some evidence of breeding seasonalilty with a peak in births in late spring/early summer. After a gestation period of around 12 weeks cubs are born in litters of 1-4 individuals, with an average litter size of just over 2. The cubs will stay with their mother for up to two years before becoming fully independent. Females first breed at an age of 3-4 years.

In the wild, leopards live for 10-15 years and they may reach 20 years in captivity.

Got a nice promotion. Someone asked if that meant pantsuits and such.

The sarcastic answer is , Yea, right. I'll leave that to all you out there who fantasize about your prissy blouses and pencil skirts.

Me. I'm a real girl in a real job getting up at 3:00. Doing an hour of yoga. Running to gym. Doing an hour on a treadmill so I can have a figure that doesn't require a corset. Then going to work. Going up and down stairs. Walking miles in a day. Inside and out. Then heading into an office or a meeting or whatever.

Nope. It's all about comfort , convenience, and reality.

So. Will I get pretty on the job? Yes, sometimes. When that is needed. But for real work time.

It's business as usual. Because this isn't a fantasy. This is the real world.

And I'm sorry if that upsets some. It's not meant to.

But I always say keep things simple. And the most important part of being simple is being you. Not some imagination of yourself.

So. Wear a dress if you wish. Or a nice blouse. Or a cute skirt. But do it because you want. Not because you think that's how someone thinks that's what it should be.

Sorry about rant. Just had to bitch out an asshole about how they were now expecting, someone in a dress.

A look at the inside of the cardboard backing. You can see the ends of wires and plastic tabs that help to position and secure the doll. I cut loose the wires, and all the tiny T-tabs that I can reach. There is also thread securing her hair to the backing, and rubber bands around her arms and hands. The most difficult fasteners to cut were the ones tacking her head to the plastic spacer. But I finally got the doll loose, without having to remove the plastic spacer.

Deboxing the Aurora Doll from the Disney Store's Disney Film Collection. As with the Maleficent doll in the same line, it was easy to remove the plastic cover off the cardboard backing. First I cut all the tape holding the edges of the plastic to the backing. Then I pulled the tabs of the plastic cover out of the slots in the backing. The doll is now in the open, but still attached to the backing and spacers. The bottom of the backing was not square with the back side, so I had to place a wad of tissue paper under the front edge to make the doll stand up straight.

I just received my online order from the Disney Store, of the newly released The Disney Maleficent Movie Dolls and Mugs. The dolls are the Maleficent and Aurora 12'' dolls of the Disney Film Collection. The mugs are Maleficent and Dragon mug and the Maleficent and Aurora mug. I ordered them last Tuesday, when the dolls were released online, so it took exactly one week to arrive. Both mugs are very beautiful, and it's hard for me to pick a favorite now. The only slight disappointment is that they have the same design on both sides. Both dolls look very good, but I'm liking Aurora more at this point, mainly because I like her face more than Maleficent's. I think the Dark Beauty Maleficent doll by Jakks Pacific is a better likeness of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent. I will post photos of both dolls boxed, then during deboxing, and finally fully deboxed. I will also show them side by side with other comparable dolls, especially the Jakks versions.

www.medilaw.tv - demonstrative evidence art, This movie illustrates the technique for performing a percutaneous thermal cervical discectomy. This movie shows patient positioning, skin preparation, local anesthetic injection, cannula insertion, the conversion of some nucleus material, instrument removal, herniation retraction and wound dressing.

Sudden trauma or gradual degeneration can weaken the annulus fibrosis or wall of the intervertebral disc. This can then bulge outwards, forming a disc protrusion or a contained disc herniation. The pressure of the bulge against the surrounding structures causes neck pain and the pressure against the nerve root causes arm pain.

Percutaneous discectomy is a minimally invasive disc decompression technique which is performed through a needle. The discectomy removes some nucleus material from the intervertebral disc whilst minimizing damage to the adjacent tissues. The removal of nucleus material decreases the pressure within the disc, which can result in the contained disc herniation retracting. This in turn can lead to a decrease in neck and arm pain. The percutaneous approach decreases the pain, complications and recovery time, and maximizes the spine's strength and stability after the procedure.

INDICATIONS

The indications for a percutaneous discectomy are

- neck or arm pain, caused by

- a contained disc herniation seen on radiological imaging

- that has not responded to at least three months of conservative treatment including pain relief medication, bed rest, physical therapy and pain relieving injections.

ALTERNATIVES

The non-surgical alternatives to percutaneous discectomy may be

-- activity modification

-- weight loss

-- aerobic exercise, such as walking, cycling, and swimming

-- strength and flexibility exercises

-- physical therapy

-- hydrotherapy

-- heat and cold pads

-- acupuncture

-- pain-relieving medications such as acetaminophen or paracetamol, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucosamine, chondroitin

The surgical alternatives to percutaneous discectomy may be

-- steroid and local anesthetic injections

-- open or minimally-invasive microdiscectomy

-- surgical fusion

-- disc replacement.

INFORMED REFUSAL

It is your right to delay or refuse the recommended treatment for your condition. However, this delay or refusal may lead to the worsening of your symptoms, such as increased arm pain, pins and needles, weakness or numbness. You should ask your doctor what might happen should you choose not to undertake the recommended treatment.

BEFORE

Before the percutaneous discectomy

- a doctor will perform a medical examination and any necessary tests to ensure that your general health will permit an anesthetic to be given and the procedure to be performed

- you will be advised when to stop any medications that will increase your bleeding risk ie aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, anti-coagulants, vitamin E, glucosamine and any herbal medicines (chamomile, danshen, garlic, gingko, devil's claw, ginseng, fish oil, willow bark, feverfew, and goji berries)

- you may be admitted into the hospital on the day before or on the morning of the procedure

- don't eat or drink anything for six hours before the procedure

- wear loose-fitting clothes that are easy to take off and put on. Do not wear any jewelry.

- before the procedure, the skin on your neck will be cleaned and you will be given a general health check. The skin on your neck may be shaved.

- an intra-venous line will be placed into a vein in your arm to administer fluid and medications

- you may be given a sedating medication to make you drowsy before being given your anesthetic

- you will be given a general anesthetic that will put you to sleep

- let your doctor know if you develop a fever, cold or flu symptoms before your scheduled procedure.

GOALS

The goal of a percutaneous discectomy is to cause the disc herniation to retract, which in turn can lead to a decrease in neck and arm pain.

TECHNIQUE

You will be lying on your back. Your neck will be cleaned. A local anesthetic injection will numb the skin. This may sting for a couple of seconds. A cannula will be introduced into the intervertebral disc. Fluoroscopy, an X-Ray TV, is often used to help guide the cannula to the correct location. The device will be advanced from the cannula, and will remove some nucleus pulposus to decrease the pressure within the disc. Then the cannula will be removed. A small bandage will be placed on the skin.

______________

Kuala Lumpur (/ˈkwɑːləˈlʊmpʊər/ or /-pər/; Malaysian pronunciation: [ˈkwalə ˈlumpʊr]) is the national capital and most populous global city in Malaysia. The city covers an area of 243 km2 and has an estimated population of 1.6 million as of 2010. Greater Kuala Lumpur, covering similar area as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.5 million people as of 2012. It is among the fastest growing metropolitan regions in South-East Asia, in terms of population and economy.

Kuala Lumpur is the seat of the Parliament of Malaysia. The city was once home to the executive and judicial branches of the federal government, but they were moved to Putrajaya in early 1999. Some sections of the judiciary still remain in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The official residence of the Malaysian King, the Istana Negara, is also situated in Kuala Lumpur. Rated as an alpha world city, Kuala Lumpur is the cultural, financial and economic centre of Malaysia due to its position as the capital as well as being a key city. Kuala Lumpur was ranked 48th among global cities by Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index and was ranked 67th among global cities for economic and social innovation by the 2thinknow Innovation Cities Index in 2010.

Kuala Lumpur is defined within the borders of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and is one of three Malaysian Federal Territories. It is an enclave within the state of Selangor, on the central west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Since the 1990s, the city has played host to many international sporting, political and cultural events including the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the Formula One Grand Prix. In addition, Kuala Lumpur is home to the tallest twin buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers, which have become an iconic symbol of Malaysia's futuristic development.

In May 2015, Kuala Lumpur was officially recognized as one of the New7Wonders Cities together with Vigan City, Doha, Durban, Havana, Beirut, and La Paz.

HISTORY

Kuala Lumpur means "muddy confluence", although it is also possible that the name is a corrupted form of an earlier but now unidentifiable forgotten name. It was originally a small settlement of just a few houses at the confluence of Sungai Gombak (previously known as Sungai Lumpur) and Sungai Klang (Klang River). The town of Kuala Lumpur was established circa 1857, when the Malay Chief of Klang, Raja Abdullah bin Raja Jaafar, aided by his brother Raja Juma'at of Lukut, raised funds to hire some Chinese miners from Lukut to open new tin mines here. The miners landed at Kuala Lumpur and continued their journey on foot to Ampang where the first mine was opened. Kuala Lumpur was the furthest point up the Klang River to which supplies could conveniently be brought by boat; it therefore became a collection and dispersal point serving the tin mines. The identity of the founder of Kuala Lumpur has however not been confirmed: Raja Abdullah bin Raja Jaafar and his role in founding the city do not appear in the earliest account of the history of Selangor. On the other hand, the Sumatrans Abdullah Hukum and Sutan Puasa, arrived in Kuala Lumpur at least in 1850. Raja Abdullah only came around 1857 and Yap Ah Loy, also regarded as the founding father of Kuala Lumpur, arrived in 1862. In addition, the Chinese men employed under Raja Abdullah worked in Ampang, 64 kilometres away from the main land. Meanwhile, efficient drainage and irrigation systems (bondar saba) were introduced in Kuala Lumpur by the technologically advanced Mandailing, improving the mining industry.

In the early history of Kuala Lumpur, the Minangkabaus of Sumatra were considered to be one of the most important groups of people who involved in trading. Utsman bin Abdullah and Haji Mohamed Taib were influenced tycoon in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding area. Haji Taib, one of the wealthiest figure at that time, was an important person in the early development centre of city: Kampung Baru. Beside as merchants, the Minangkabaus also overwhelmingly on socio-religious figures, such as Utsman bin Abdullah was the first kadi of Kuala Lumpur as well as Muhammad Nur bin Ismail.

Although the early miners suffered a high death toll due to the malarial conditions of the jungle, the Ampang mines were successful, and the first tin was exported in 1859. The tin-mining spurred the growth of the town, and miners later also settled in Pudu and Batu. The miners formed gangs among themselves; there were the Hakka-dominated Hai San in Kuala Lumpur, and the Cantonese-dominated Ghee Hin based in Kanching in Ulu Selangor. These two gangs frequently fought to gain control of best tin mines. The leaders of the Chinese community were conferred the title of Kapitan Cina (Chinese headman) by the Malay chief, and Hiu Siew, the owner of a mine in Lukut, was chosen as the first Kapitan of Kuala Lumpur. As one of the first traders to arrive in Ampang (along with Yap Ah Sze), he sold provisions to the miners in exchange for tin.

In 1868, Yap Ah Loy was appointed the third Chinese Kapitan of Kuala Lumpur. Yap, together with Frank Swettenham, were the two most important figures in the development of Kuala Lumpur in the early days of Kuala Lumpur. In 1880, the state capital of Selangor was moved from Klang to the more strategically advantageous Kuala Lumpur by the colonial administration, and Swettenham was appointed the Resident in 1882. Kuala Lumpur was a small town with buildings made of wood and atap (thatching) that were prone to burn. It suffered from many problems, including the Selangor Civil War which devastated the town; it was also plagued by diseases and constant fires and floods. The war and other setbacks led to a slump which lasted until 1879, when a rise in the price of tin allowed the town to recover.

In 1881, a flood swept through the town, following a fire that had engulfed it earlier. As a response, Frank Swettenham, the British Resident of Selangor, required that buildings be constructed of brick and tile.[33] Hence, Kapitan Yap Ah Loy bought a sprawling piece of real estate to set up a brick industry, which spurred the rebuilding of Kuala Lumpur. This place is the eponymous Brickfields. Hence, destroyed atap buildings were replaced with brick and tiled ones. He restructured the building layout of the city. Many of the new brick buildings mirrored those of shop houses in southern China, characterised by "five foot ways" as well as skilled Chinese carpentry work. This resulted in a distinct eclectic shop house architecture typical to this region. Kapitan Yap Ah Loy expand road access in the city significantly, linking up tin mines with the city, these roads include the main arterial roads of the present Ampang Road, Pudu Road and Petaling Street. As Chinese Kapitan, he was vested with wide powers on par with Malay community leaders. He implemented law reforms and introduced new legal measures. He also presided over a small claims court. With a police force of six, he was able to uphold the rule of law. He built a prison that could accommodate 60 prisoners at any time. Kapitan Yap Ah Loy also built Kuala Lumpur's first school and a major tapioca mill in Petaling Street of which the Selangor's Sultan Abdul Samad had an interest.

A railway line between Kuala Lumpur and Klang, initiated by Swettenham and completed in 1886, increased accessibility which resulted in the rapid growth of the town. The population grew from 4,500 in 1884 to 20,000 in 1890. As development intensified in the 1880s, it also put pressure on sanitation, waste disposal and other health issues. A Sanitary Board was created on 14 May 1890 which was responsible for sanitation, upkeep of roads, lighting of street and other functions. This would eventually became the Kuala Lumpur Municipal Council. Kuala Lumpur was only 0.65 km2 in 1895, but it expanded to 20 km2 in 1903, and by the time it became a municipality in 1948 it had expanded to 93 km2, and then to 243 km2 in 1974 as a Federal Territory. In 1896, Kuala Lumpur was chosen as the capital of the newly formed Federated Malay States. A mixture of different communities settled in various sections of Kuala Lumpur. The Chinese mainly settled around the commercial centre of Market Square, east of the Klang River, and towards Chinatown. The Malays, Indian Chettiars, and Indian Muslims resided along Java Street (now Jalan Tun Perak). The Padang, now known as Merdeka Square, was the centre of the British administrative offices.

During World War II, Kuala Lumpur was captured by the Imperial Japanese Army on 11 January 1942. They occupied the city until 15 August 1945, when the commander in chief of the Japanese Seventh Area Army in Singapore and Malaysia, Seishirō Itagaki, surrendered to the British administration following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Kuala Lumpur grew through the war, the rubber and tin commodity crashes and the Malayan Emergency, during which Malaya was preoccupied with the communist insurgency. In 1957, the Federation of Malaya gained its independence from British rule. Kuala Lumpur remained the capital through the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963.

On 13 May 1969, the worst race riots on record in Malaysia took place in Kuala Lumpur. The so-called 13 May Incident refers to the occurrence of violence between members of the Malay and the Chinese communities. The violence was the result of Malaysian Malays being dissatisfied with their socio-political status. The riots resulted in the deaths of 196 people, and led to major changes in the country's economic policy to promote and prioritise Malay economic development over that of the other ethnicities.

Kuala Lumpur later achieved city status in 1972, becoming the first settlement in Malaysia to be granted the status after independence. Later, on 1 February 1974, Kuala Lumpur became a Federal Territory. Kuala Lumpur ceased to be the capital of Selangor in 1978 after the city of Shah Alam was declared the new state capital. On 14 May 1990, Kuala Lumpur celebrated 100 years of local council. The new federal territory Kuala Lumpur flag and anthem were introduced. On 1 February 2001, Putrajaya was declared a Federal Territory, as well as the seat of the federal government. The administrative and judicial functions of the government were shifted from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya. Kuala Lumpur however still retained its legislative function, and remained the home of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Constitutional King).

GEOGRAPHY

The geography of Kuala Lumpur is characterised by the huge Klang Valley. The valley is bordered by the Titiwangsa Mountains in the east, several minor ranges in the north and the south and the Strait of Malacca in the west. Kuala Lumpur is a Malay term that translates to "muddy confluence" as it is located at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers.

Located in the centre of Selangor state, Kuala Lumpur was previously under the rule of Selangor State Government. In 1974, Kuala Lumpur was separated from Selangor to form the first Federal Territory governed directly by the Malaysian Federal Government. Its location on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, which has wider flat land than the east coast, has contributed to its faster development relative to other cities in Malaysia. The municipality of the city covers an area of 243 km2, with an average elevation of 21.95 m.

CLOMATE AND WEATHER

Protected by the Titiwangsa Mountains in the east and Indonesia's Sumatra Island in the west, Kuala Lumpur has a tropical rainforest climate (Köppen climate classification Af), which is warm and sunny, along with abundant rainfall, especially during the northeast monsoon season from October to March. Temperatures tend to remain constant. Maximums hover between 32 and 33 °C and have never exceeded 38.5 °C, while minimums hover between 23.4 and 24.6 °C and have never fallen below 14.4 °C. Kuala Lumpur typically receives minimum 2,600 mm of rain annually; June and July are relatively dry, but even then rainfall typically exceeds 131 millimetres per month.

Flooding is a frequent occurrence in Kuala Lumpur whenever there is a heavy downpour, especially in the city centre and downstream areas. Smoke from forest fires of nearby Sumatra sometimes cast a haze over the region. It is a major source of pollution in the city together with open burning, emission from motor vehicles and construction work.

POLITICS

Kuala Lumpur is home to the Parliament of Malaysia. The hierarchy of authority in Malaysia, in accordance with the Federal Constitution, has stipulated the three branches, of the Malaysian government as consisting of the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative branches. The Parliament consists of the Dewan Negara (Upper House / House of Senate) and Dewan Rakyat (Lower House / House of Representatives).

ECONOMY

Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding urban areas form the most industrialised and economically, the fastest growing region in Malaysia. Despite the relocation of federal government administration to Putrajaya, certain government institutions such as Bank Negara Malaysia (National Bank of Malaysia), Companies Commission of Malaysia and Securities Commission as well as most embassies and diplomatic missions have remained in the city.

The city remains as the economic and business centre of the country. Kuala Lumpur is a centre for finance, insurance, real estate, media and the arts of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is rated as an alpha world city, and is the only global city in Malaysia, according to the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC). The infrastructure development in the surrounding areas such as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at Sepang, the creation of the Multimedia Super Corridor and the expansion of Port Klang further reinforce the economic significance of the city.

Bursa Malaysia or the Malaysia Exchange is based in the city and forms one of its core economic activities. As of 5 July 2013, the market capitalisation stood at US$505.67 billion.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Kuala Lumpur is estimated at RM73,536 million in 2008 with an average annual growth rate of 5.9 percent.[66] The per capita GDP for Kuala Lumpur in 2013 is RM79,752 with an average annual growth rate of 5.6 percent. The total employment in Kuala Lumpur is estimated at around 838,400. The service sector comprising finance, insurance, real estate, business services, wholesale and retail trade, restaurants and hotels, transport, storage and communication, utilities, personal services and government services form the largest component of employment representing about 83.0 percent of the total. The remaining 17 percent comes from manufacturing and construction.

The average monthly household income for Kuala Lumpur was RM4,105 (USD 1,324) in 1999, up from RM3,371 (USD 1,087) four years prior, making it 66% higher than the national average. In terms of household income distribution, 23.5% of households in the city earned more than RM5,000 (USD 1,613) per month compared to 9.8% for the entire country, while 8.1% earned less than RM1,000 (USD 323) a month.

The large service sector is evident in the number of local and foreign banks and insurance companies operating in the city. Kuala Lumpur is poised to become the global Islamic Financing hub with an increasing number of financial institutions providing Islamic Financing and the strong presence of Gulf's financial institutions such as the world's largest Islamic bank, Al-Rajhi Bank and Kuwait Finance House. Apart from that, the Dow Jones & Company is keen to work with Bursa Malaysia to set up Islamic Exchange Trade Funds (ETFs), which would help raise Malaysia's profile in the Gulf. The city has a large number of foreign corporations and is also host to many multi national companies' regional offices or support centres, particularly for finance and accounting, and information technology functions. Most of the countries' largest companies have their headquarters based here and as of December 2007 and excluding Petronas, there are 14 companies that are listed in Forbes 2000 based in Kuala Lumpur.

Other important economic activities in the city are education and health services. Kuala Lumpur also has advantages stemming from the high concentration of educational institutions that provide a wide-ranging of courses. Numerous public and private medical specialist centres and hospitals in the city offer general health services, and a wide range of specialist surgery and treatment that caters to locals and tourists.

There has been growing emphasis to expand the economic scope of the city into other service activities, such as research and development, which supports the rest of the economy of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur has been home for years to important research centres such as the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia and the Institute of Medical Research and more research centres are expected to be established in the coming years.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Kuala Lumpur is the most populous city in Malaysia, with a population of 1.6 million in the city proper as of 2010. It has a population density of 6,696 inhabitants per square kilometre , and is the most densely populated administrative district in Malaysia. Residents of the city are colloquially known as KLites. Kuala Lumpur is also the centre of the wider Klang Valley conurbation (covering Petaling Jaya, Klang, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Gombak and others) which has an estimated metropolitan population of 7.2–7.5 million as of 2012.

Kuala Lumpur's heterogeneous populace includes the country's three major ethnic groups: the Malays, the Chinese and the Indians, although the city also has a mix of different cultures including Eurasians, as well as Kadazans, Ibans and other indigenous races from East Malaysia and Peninsula Malaysia.

Historically Kuala Lumpur was a predominantly Chinese, but recently the Bumiputra component of the city has increased substantially and they are now the dominant group. Most of Malays who considered as Bumiputra came from Sumatra and other parts of Indonesia archipelago. The majority of them Javanese, Minangkabaus and Buginese began arriving in Kuala Lumpur in the mid 19th century, in addition to Acehnese who arrived in the late 20th century. The population of Kuala Lumpur was estimated to be around three thousand in 1880 when it was made the capital of Selangor. In the following decade which saw the rebuilding of the town it showed considerable increase, due in large part to the construction of a railway line in 1886 connecting Kuala Lumpur and Klang.

A census in 1891 of uncertain accuracy gave a figure of 43,796 inhabitants, 79% of whom were Chinese (71% of the Chinese were Hakka), 14% Malay, and 6% Indian. Another estimate put the population of Kuala Lumpur in 1890 at 20,000. In 1931, 61% of Kuala Lumpur's 111,418 inhabitants were Chinese, and in 1947 63.5%. The Malays however began to settle in the Kuala Lumpur in significant numbers, in part due to government employment, as well as the expansion of the city that absorbed the surrounding rural areas where many Malays lived. between 1947 and 1957 the population of Bumiputras in Kuala Lumpur doubled, increasing from 12.5 to 15%, while the proportion of Chinese dropped. The process continued after Malayan independence with the growth of a largely Malay civil service, and later the implementation of the New Economic Policy which encouraged Malay participation in urban industries and business. In 1980 the population of Kuala Lumpur had reached over a million, with 52% Chinese, 33% Malay, and 15% Indian. From 1980 to 2000 the number of Bumiputras increased by 77%, but the Chinese still outnumbered the Bumiputras in Kuala Lumpur in the 2000 census at 43% compared to Bumiputras at 38%. By the 2010 census, according to the Department of Statistics and excluding non-citizens, the percentage of the Bumiputera population in Kuala Lumpur has reached around 45.9%, with the Chinese population at 43.2% and Indians 10.3%.A notable phenomenon in recent times has been the increase of foreign residents in Kuala Lumpur, which rose from 1% of the city's population in 1980 to about 8% in the 2000 census, and 9.4% in the 2010 census. These figures also do not include a significant number of illegal immigrants. Kuala Lumpur's rapid development has triggered a huge influx of low-skilled foreign workers from Indonesia, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, and Vietnam into Malaysia, many of whom enter the country illegally or without proper permits.Birth rates in Kuala Lumpur have declined and resulted in the lower proportion of young people falling below 15 years old category from 33% in 1980 to slightly less than 27% in 2000.[69] On the other hand, the working age group of 15–59 increased from 63% in 1980 to 67% in 2000. The elderly age group, 60 years old and above has increased from 4% in 1980 and 1991 to 6% in 2000.

Kuala Lumpur is pluralistic and religiously diverse. The city has many places of worship catering to the multi-religious population. Islam is practised primarily by the Malays and the Indian Muslim communities. Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism are practised mainly among the Chinese. Indians traditionally adhere to Hinduism. Some Chinese and Indians also subscribe to Christianity.

As of 2010 Census the population of Kuala Lumpur is 46.4% Muslim, 35.7% Buddhist, 8.5% Hindu, 5.8% Christian, 1.1% Taoist or Chinese religion adherent, 2.0% follower of other religions, and 0.5% non-religious.

Bahasa Malaysia is the principal language in Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur residents are generally literate in English, with a large proportion adopting it as their first language. It has a strong presence, especially in business and is a compulsory language taught in schools. Cantonese and Mandarin are prominent as they are spoken by the local majority Chinese population. Another major dialect spoken is Hakka. While Tamil is dominant amongst the local Indian population, other Indian languages spoken include Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi and Hindi. Beside the Malay language, there are a variety of languages spoken by Indonesian descent, such as Minangkabau and Javanese.

EDUCATION

According to government statistics, Kuala Lumpur has a literacy rate of 97.5% in 2000, the highest rate in any state or territory in Malaysia. In Malaysia, Malay is the language of instruction for most subjects while English is a compulsory subject, but as of 2012, English is still the language of instruction for mathematics and the natural sciences for certain schools. Some schools provide Mandarin and Tamil as languages of instruction for certain subjects. Each level of education demands different skills of teaching and learning ability.Kuala Lumpur contains 13 tertiary education institutions, 79 high schools, 155 elementary schools and 136 kindergartens.

WIKIPEDIA

My next life I only want to love one person.

On top of Point Danger, just on the NSW side of the border, this place has unobstructed ocean views to the east and south. Maybe when I win lotto...several dozen times.

History in the course of time

More than 800 years of history Bernhardsthal is more than 800 years of history of a local community in a border and bridge position at a central point in Europe.

History of Bernhardsthal

Again and again, it was more than the fate of the locals alone which had been decided here - again and again it was the pan-European movement that captured the place. One by one, they appeared in the Thaya-March area: Illyrians and Celts, Quads and Herulians, Huns and Lombards, Slavs and Avars, Bavarians and Franks, Magyars and Mongols, Hussites and Utraquists, Hajduks and Swedes, Turks and Kurds, Frenchmen, Prussians and Russians. They cleared and missioned, blackmailed and burned, remained, or passed by like a wild hunt. Between confrontation and penetration, construction and destruction, fear and hope, a year is a fixed point: the first documentary mention of the place - 1171.

1171 - what happened in Europe at this time? In the Roman-German empire, Emperor Frederick I Babarossa ruled. It was the time of the castles and knights and monastic culture, of the manorial systems and evolution of the town charter and of new German settlement waves which captured even Bohemia and the distant Transylvania. Just, in 1156, the Emperor of Austria had been loyal to the duchy on the other side, the Bohemian duke Vladislav II, and received the royal crown. Court Days and Princely councils, expeditions to Italy, the defeat of Henry the Lion underlined the power of the central European empire, which in the south even reached Sicily. Bruges and Venice were the highly evolving trade centers in Europe. Political movement had captured the continent: In the Russian area, Kiev's pre-eminence fell, new centers in the north-east announced themselves - Moscow was first mentioned in 1147.

In the southeast, Serbian unity was just founded in 1171, Serbia and Bulgaria began to shake off Byzantine rule. Hungary was about to restore its supremacy in Dalmatia, Croatia and Bosnia. In England, Henry II succeeded in sustaining his claim to power, and Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, was murdered by royal knights in 1170. In 1171 the English conquest of Ireland began. In Egypt, Saladin began to expand, which was to lead to Tripoli, Damascus, and Jerusalem. In China, above all, the South was booming in economic development. Already, paper money and book printing, gunpowder and magnet needle were used.

But back to Bernhardsthal: With the world, the place has been connected since ancient times to the nearby Amber Road, which led from the Adriatic to the Baltic Sea. Events all around the world repeatedly stamped the centuries of its history.

Prehistory and Time of the Teutons: Archaeological finds earmark the Bernhardsthaler area as a significantly older settlement basis, as the year 1171 suggests - stretching back to the Neolithic, Bronze Age and older and younger Iron Age. Hallstatt burial mounds point to Illyrians, followed by the Celts.

9th century: Franconian mission movement and Great Moravian empire. The Slavic tribes lived in the Weinviertel (Wine District) and were interspersed with the Germanic population.

10th century: Magyar collision and German counter-movement. Emergence of Magyar riders also in the March-Thaya area. By the counteroffensive of the German kingship, a new settlement wave follows east. From 976, the Babenbergs in the regained marches area on the Danube came to power.

11th century: Stabilization of borders. Around 1045, the boundary was essentially stabilized. Thus the framework for settlement and integration into the social structure of the empire had also been drawn. The settler wave also captured the Wine District and the Bavarian population came to the fore, marking the time as the peasant clearing.

12th century: the first documentary mention. In the year 1171, the name Bernhardsthal was mentioned for the first time in the Klosterneuburg Tradition Codex, when the monastery Klosterneuburg acquired land here.

13th century: First, the Mongols appeared, hordes of riders who broke in over the Russian steppes, triumphed in 1241 near Liegnitz in Silesia, in the same year at Muhi on the Sjo in Hungary, pervading Moravia, sprawling to the Wine District. Before and after, however, the Thaya-March area was a multiple site of Bohemian and Hungarian incursions, condensed under Premysl Otakar II until the great decision. When the last Babenberger died in 1246, that Premysl Otakar had attacked southwards on Austria and across Styria and Carinthia to the Adriatic, and had penetrated eastward into Upper Hungary. To the south of the Bernhardsthaler area, on the Marchfeld near Dürnkrut, he lost battle and life against Rudolf von Habsburg. The consequences of the event, the retreat of the beaten ones, the advance of the victors, also touched Bernhardsthal.

14th century: from 1328 to 1336 the incursions of the Bohemian king John of Luxembourg lined up. Among the castles conquered by the Bohemians was also Bernhardsthal, which was then owned by the Haunvelder. The Hungarians under Charles I of Anjou also contributed, and also laid their hands on Bernhardsthal. The Wehinger, who had now been entrusted with Bernhardsthal, temporarily secured the market right for the place. A dangerous approach to the end of the century. First pirates from Moravia.

15th century: robber barons, Hussites and Utraquists. Bands or groups of robbers from Austria, Moravia and Hungary - with centers in Hohenau and Laa - troubled the Thaya-March area. In 1470 Bernhardsthal was sold to the Liechtensteiner.

16th century: Emerging Turkish danger. In 1529 they stood at the gates of Vienna. For the first time, one made acquaintance up the river March with the pillagers. After the retaliation, the Habsburgs - from Ferdinand I now also King of Bohemia and Hungary - ruled the west and north-west of the Hungarian kingdom. The Danubian and Alpine countries, Bohemia and Hungary should face a common development. The Thaya-March region was now the stage of the eastern front of the Turks.

17th century: Hajduks and Swedes. In Hungary, an uprising had broken out. In 1605, pillagers of Hajduks crossed the March and also plundered Bernhardsthal. A little later, the Mercenary regiments of the Thirty Years' War struck the gates. It was not until 1648, when the peace was concluded, that marauding and quartering, extortion, robbery, and murders ended. In 1163 Turks again crossed the March, plundered and forced prisoners into slavery - even Bernhardsthal was in flames.

18th century: Kurutzs and imperial occupation. Around 1704, due to the incursions of Kurutzs the wine-producing region and South Moravia too were again threatened by fear and distress. In 1705 they also attacked Bernhardsthal. In the next few years, imperial units remained present to protect the places at risk. In the following decades but Austria, under Maria Theresia, faced the defense of its superpower status and at the same time its consolidation.

19th century: Frenchmen, Prussia and Cholera: In 1805 Bernhardsthal saw Frenchmen on the advance, before and after their victory in Austerlitz. In 1809 the place saw the French for the second time. The year 1866 brought the Prussians also to Bernhardsthal as the winner of Königsgrätz. They were quartered as well as before the French which brought a lot of stress for the place. The cholera in the years 1831 and 1866 supplemented the picture of the 19th century.

20th century: Two great wars went over Europe in this century. Bernhardsthal also had to pay its duty. Bernhardsthaler found distant graves on theaters of war of both wars. Nevertheless, after 1945, the place steered into an impressive phase of peaceful construction.

1171 - was geschah in Europa in dieser Zeit? Im römisch-deutschen Reich herrrschte Kaiser Friedrich I. Babarossa.

"SALVINI VUOLE PALAZZO CHIGI! - SCOMPARE IL LOGO DELLA LEGA NORD: D’ORA IN POI SI POTRÀ USARE SOLO IL SIMBOLO CON LA SCRITTA SALVINI PREMIER"

This might be as close as I'll get to the modified airplanes for a while. They're only flown on the west coast right now.

On the morning of the 23rd, we moved up at three o'clock, and got into position. One division of cavalry opposite the gate on the Cabul road; one part of our force moved off to our left, to watch the enemy on the hills, and make a feint attack on their position on the opposite side, so as to draw their attention from us. We were occupied in placing[37] batteries so as to command the gate; at the same time Colonel Thompson, of the Engineers, was laying a chain cable to throw a bridge across the Moat. When this was accomplished, a mine was laid under the stone buttresses, and at a quarter to six o'clock the mine was opening, and up went the gates with a terrific crash. The storming party, consisting of the 13th Light Infantry, under Colonel Robert Sale; the 2nd or Queen's, under Sir Thomas Wiltshire; when the bugle sounded, commenced their attack under a heavy fire—the 13th had the honour of leading. The enemy every where made a terrific resistance. Colonel Sale was knocked off his horse and trampled upon, still he ordered the bugler to sound a retreat, instead of which, whether intentional or not, the advance was sounded. Nothing could daunt the ardour and bravery of the men. They soon gained a footing inside, where hand to hand encounters was carried on in its most relentless form, and in half an hour, both regiments were firmly established inside the walls. By day light the British flag was mounted on the Citadel, many of the enemy having thrown themselves therefrom,[38] rather than surrender, to the Moat below, a distance of 150 feet. We were ordered to enter and seize the horses, which were running wildly without riders, which we did after some hard work, and brought them to the prize agent outside. We were annoyed, however, very much, through having to encounter the worst of firing, as many of the Afghans popped at us from loop-holes and windows in every street of the city. When the sun rose on the hills the Infantry could plainly be seen ascending the greatest heights of the Citadel, far above the city; here they got into the bank, and loaded themselves with money. Many of the enemy were trying to escape to the valley away on our left; these, and the force on the mountains, kept our troops in that direction busy. By 2 o'clock, p.m., all was over, and Ghuznee was in possession of the British.

Feelings after battle.

When all opposition ceased, and one went through the city, now filled with sounds of wailings, he cannot but be struck with the dreadful havoc war brings with it. This was my first general action, and although when in the heat of it, I felt no[39] pity for any one, at least I cannot remember feeling so, still, when the desolation is complete, and you are met everywhere with its sad effects, property destroyed, mutilation of brutes, horses, camels, &c., dead, and writhing in pain from wounds; wounded men and women every where begging for mercy or succour, the dead piled all round, the most hardened must give way to sadness. Shah-Soojah, our newly crowned king, was busy on our right, hanging and shooting traitors, some of them leading Chiefs who had fallen into his hands. The whole of the 24th was occupied in burying the dead, and on the following day Hadjee Kan came in, and gave up his sword, a beautiful one, the hilt studded with costly gems; for its possession the officers had a race, which was won by the 4th Light Dragoons. The horses captured, all of them valuable Arab or Turcoman were sold by auction, the proceeds appropriated as prize money. - W. J. D. Gould, 1880

This is a photograph from the 3rd running of the Finea 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Finea, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday 23rd March 2014 at 12:00. The race is organised in conjunction with the Castletown Finea Coole and Whitehall GAA club which is an amalgamation club of the GAA clubs of the surrounding parishes. Whilst the numbers were lower than the races from 2013 there was still a great local country atmosphere with runners, joggers, and walkers enjoying the cold but dry and sunny weather for the race. There was a great spread of refreshments provided in Fitzsimons Bar after the race.

A full set of photographs from today's race is available on our Flickr photostream in this set: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157642756508483/

This race is unique in the fact that it provided participants with the opportunity to compete in a race in two counties (Westmeath and Cavan) and two provinces (Ulster and Leinster) in Ireland during the same race. The race started on the Cavan side of the famous bridge of Finea and finished on the banks of the river. Finea is a beautiful Irish village which is well known for its scenery and it's position in the beautiful landscape of North Westmeath amongst the lakes and hills. The race crosses the River Inny which provides a natural drainage river between Lough Kinale to the south and the much larger Lough Sheelin [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lough_Sheelin] to the north. The race was well stewarded at all road junctions. Water was provided at the 3KM mark.

Course: The race starts and finishes at either side of the Bridge of Finea. The Bridge End Bar was the start where the race went out 400m on the Granard road and runners turned around at cone and headed back into Co. Westmeath over the bridge and the 1km mark. Following the Castlepollard Road the race took at left at the 2km and followed a loop back past the National School and back into Finea village again for a finish down on the banks of the River Inny. The course was a tough undulating course but fair. Any short hills were balanced out by adequate down-hill the other side. The stewards provided excellent traffic management on what is a busy section of road between the 1st KM and the final KM and the finish.

Location Map: Start/finish and registration took place at the Bridge (see Google StreetView Image here goo.gl/maps/1Zqek)

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches and home-made breads in Fitzsimon's Bridge End Bar afterwards.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

Reading on a Smartphone or tablet? Don't forget to scroll down further to read more about this race and see important Internet links to other information about the race! You can also find out how to access and download these photographs.

So many boats, so many destinations. I dream about far away places

It reminded me of a song .......

I went out on friday night to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town South Africa

It was difficult to get parking

The place must be the most popular tourist attraction of Cape town and of course the locals also like going where the action is

I am sailing, I am sailing, home again 'cross the sea

I am sailing stormy waters, to be near you, to be free

I am flying, I am flying, like a bird 'cross the sky

I am flying, passing high clouds, to be near you, to be free

Can you hear me, can you hear me, through the dark night far away

I am dying, forever crying, to be near you, who can say

Can you hear me, can you hear me, through the dark night far away

I am dying, forever crying, to be near you, who can say

We are sailing, we are sailing, home again, 'cross the sea

We are sailing, stormy waters, to be near you, to be free

Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free

Oh my Lord, to be near you, to be free

Oh my Lord, to be near you, to be free

Oh Lord

Canada votes 2025 ! and Seniors represent over 20% of the vote

.

Are Seniors firmly positioned on the bottom of Trudeau's totem pole ?

Nov, 2019 - It seems as though Seniors have been invisible ever since the new Liberal Government was elected in 2015 ? But, hallelujah , they are finally going to get a break, ( but, there's a catch ) ? Seniors are to finally receive some welcome relief in the form of a long overdue raise in Old Age Pension, but,, there's been a tricky caveat installed ? Instead of the normal age 65 rule, Seniors must now be over age 75 to get the raise ? This culling method appears to use ageism as a tool to eliminate over 4000 Seniors from a benefit ? Many legitimate Senior Citizens are feeling forgotten, disrespected, segregated and excluded by this Liberal Government and not looking forward to yet another year under them.

Critical grievances 2020 thru 24 :

1) Most Seniors are now retired, (only 1 in 5 still work full or part-time) and so they do not benefit from, nor qualify for, nor did they use any of the CERB rescue programs designed specifically to provide monetary assistance to large and small businesses and working folks ? A minority of Seniors ( those over age 75 ) had received a one per lifetime 500 dollar Covi crisis payment in 2021 but ( and it seems unconscionable during a health crisis) , the majority of Seniors, (those aged 65 to 74) were excluded from this benefit and didn't get it due to age ? Meanwhile, when many members of our society received 500 dollars each and every week while still allowed to earn a thousand dollars per month, many Seniors were living on less than a thousand per month in pensions and receiving no such assistance ? These emergency Covi-19 welfare measures doled out 210 billion to individuals and companies and created a massive deficit for 20/21 ? But, it is estimated that less than 4 % of these COVI caused deficits were made by Seniors since they didn't create it ? But unfortunately being that Seniors represent 20 % of the total Canadian population, they are responsible for 20 % of this debt even though they created less than 4 % of it ? It's like borrowing 4 dollars and then having to pay back 20 dollars ..,,,,,, aka loan sharking ?

2) A 2019 pre-election promise of a 10% raise in pension starting in July of 2020 was mean-spiritedly held back even though Covi came along in 2020 when this increase was desperately needed by all Seniors, incl those aged 65 and up ? *update* *The promised raise was finally implemented 2 year late in July of 2022. saving the Government billions ? and more billions were saved when the Government disqualified all Seniors age 65 thru 74.

3) A Sept/2019 pre-election promise to raise the Widows' Pension Survivors benefit by 25% was not kept and this benefit appears now as a pre-election falsehood that was only made to get the Senior vote ?

4) Although raking in billions in profits there's been no significant raise in C.P.P. benefits since the Libs first took power back in 2015, other than some loose change once-a-year COL adjustments ? Alberta began threatening to leave it in 2023.

5) A double punishment ? It seems to be discrimination when many of our Senior's spouses who were homemakers and raised children are excluded to CPP because they never had a opportunity to earn this pension, and also excluded from their GST rebate because of the current 1 only per household rules and as thus are left to live out their remaining years well below the minimum livable level ?

6) over 70% of the casualties of Covi were Seniors ? Of the 27,000 Canadians that have died from Covi about 20,000 of them were over 75, ( 75 is also the new minimum age used to qualify for the 10% raise in Old Age Pension) ?

7) After decades of systemic neglect, exploitation, abuse and suffering, the weakest and most vulnerable of all Canadian citizens had to be rescued by their own Army ? Yet no inquiry was ever ordered such as was the case with MMA ? Why was MMA given 100 million dollars for an inquiry but Long Term Care Nursing Home genocide has never been investigated and the families have never been offered such an inquiry or even an apology ?

8) It seems backwards when OAS and CPP are deemed taxable income by the Government but the incredibly generous Liberal child tax benefit is tax free ? Why would you keep taxing those that have already contributed so much and paid taxes for so many years and then let relatively new taxpayers who have not yet paid their fair share totally off the hook with a tax freebee ?

9) Since the Liberals first took power back in 2015, if you were to combine all OAS raises granted from back in 2015 until now in 2021 , ( this includes all Covi months ) the total increase to a pensioners monthly check after 6 years of Liberal governance wouldn't even buy him a daily cup of Hortons tea, ( your monthly check in 2021 is now approx 50 bucks more than it was in 2015 ) ? This seems negligent when considering the pandemic and the hefty cost of living increases ? update july 2022 - 10% raise for those over 75 finally started in july.

10) Seniors group treated like merchandise as hundreds of millions said to be designated for Seniors are never given directly to them but instead indirectly dispersed to many different individuals and organizations making a living off of Senior citizens and from related Government grants and funding ? And there is also the Minister of Seniors and her staff as well as an 11-member advisory board that must be paid ?

11) Seniors are not all brain dead and toothless ? Mental health assistance and Dentistry are expensive and many face a dental crisis as they age with no national dental plan or any help available ? update to 2024 - A limited dental plan is now available from the Government ?

12) Many Seniors are going hungry and cannot absorb massive rent increases ? A One bedroom in Halifax has risen from pre covi 800 up to 2100 in 2024 (more than their CPP and OAS combined) and still, no legislated guaranteed Monthly 'livable' inflation-adjusted income for each and every senior over the age of 65 ?

Since first elected in 2015, the Liberals have shown favoritism and unusual generosity towards their Canada Child tax credit benefit (baby bonus) but conversely have shown mean-spiritless and a frugal attitude towards Seniors ?

2015 Monthly OAP check to Seniors under Harper = $569.95

2021 current Seniors OAP check under Liberals - 626.49 (a total raise over 6 yrs of time of 56.54 or approx 10 % since Liberals took over )

And :

Baby Bonus or Child Tax Credit under Harper 2015 Monthly baby bonus check = approx 100.00 .

Baby Bonus or Child Tax Credit under Liberals - now over 600.00 ? This monthly increase in the baby bonus check is approx 500.00 more than Harper, or an increase of approx 600 % since Liberals took over ?

* note * The Justin Trudeau Liberals have renamed the baby bonus and given it a 600 % RAISE to lure middle class votes in the 2015 election !

it worked !

Sept 2019 - A pre election announcement . In a televised news conference delivered by the P.M. a new 10% raise is to be granted on Seniors pensions starting July of 2020. Unfortunately, ( in a first of its kind ), a highly unusual caveat is to be placed on the raise whereby the majority or 57 % of Seniors, (all those aged 65 to 74 ) are excluded and as such will not be allowed this Government benefit even though they have all earned their rightful place in Canada as Seniors ?

While claiming to be the party of systemic history cleansing and a party based on equality, inclusion, and diversity, the Liberals seem hypocritical when it comes to senior citizens after they appear to use division, ageism, discrimination, segregation, separation and exclusion in the first substantial raise to the Seniors old age pension since they assumed Government ? For the first time ever, many previously eligible Senior citizens will loose their right to receive a Senior's benefit ? An umbrellaed universality has always applied to any Canadian citizen who successfully reaches the age of 65 ? But the liberals have divided Seniors by splitting them into two separate and distinct entities based on age ? This culling maneuver serves to disqualify those Seniors aged 65 to 74 ( or approx 57 % of the current Senior population) from their entitlement because of their age ?

This new Liberal policy of separation and segregation could save the Government approx 4 million X 630 dollars per year. or at least 2,520,000,000.00 dollars.

July 2020 - Covi has arrived, and there will be no budget in this horrible year - There seems to be plenty of pandemic help for everyone else, but the 10% raise in OAS for Seniors has been withheld and not rolled out in July/2020 as promised, nor will it be rolled out for all of 2020, although the unreleased and held-back raise is often referred to as a current benefit given to help Seniors with their expenses during the pandemic year 2020 even though the raise was never released to them during the entire year and most can't use it and even if ever released as it only applies to 43 % of Seniors ?

^ UPDATE * Liberal Budget year 2021 -

Apr 2021 - Budget 2021 - It seems that the 10% raise in Seniors old age pension that was first promised to Seniors back in 2019 and that was suppose to start in July 2020, is now being described and represented here in budget 2021 as the major new benefit given directly to Seniors as their part of federal Budget 2021 (even though the raise is still withheld and will remain unreleased for the rest of 2021 ) ? Although described as a 'Seniors' benefit, it can't benefit all Seniors as implied, but can only help 43 % of the Canadian Seniors population if ever released ? Unfortunately politicians continue to refer to the raise as if it is already released and as if it is already being used and enjoyed by all Canadian Seniors which is misleading ?

^ UPDATE * Liberal Budget 2022 -

Apr 7th, 2022 - Nothing much new in this budget for Seniors ? But noticed an opportunity taken to go back in time to remember the lowering of the OAP age limit from 67 to 65 some 7 years ago ? This history is true but can it really be included as something new for Seniors in a new budget 7 years later ?

It seems that the still unreleased 10% raise in Seniors old age pension as first announced back in 2019 and scheduled to start in July 2020,, is once again being called upon in 2022 to represent the highlight and major benefit given to Seniors as their part of Budget 2022 ? This raise that has already been presented and used as part of last years 2021 budget hasn't even started yet ? It's difficult to understand how a Senior's benefit from last year, (and the year before), keeps on being repeated or duplicated over and over again like this, and repeat credit being taken for it on multiple occasions ? Shouldn't a brand new budget contain only fresh and brand-new original benefits and not old ones resurrected from past years that are just being repeated and re-used ? Surely it would be inappropriate to resurrect a past benefit already given out to Seniors in a past budget 2021 and already given the credit for, and to then take the credit for it all over again in 2022 ?

And not to be remiss, there was another promise made 3 years ago that would benefit many needy Seniors in the form of a 25 % raise in Widows' Pension Survivors benefits ? But after 3 years this pre-election promise is once again totally missing from yet another budget ? And so this promise looks to be totally forgotten about now that the election is over ?

**** NEW UPDATE June 2022 *******

June 23, 2022 news item - " Seniors, renters and low-income workers to get a boost from a new plan to help fight inflation "

Thursday June 23, 2022 - Deputy prime minister and the minister of finance Chrystia Freeland has announced a new $8.9 billion plan that will help Canadians deal with this year's record-breaking inflation. It seems that the still unreleased 10% raise in Seniors old age pension is once again being resurrected and is called upon to represent Senior citizens share and will be the all Seniors part of her new 8.9 billion dollar Affordability Plan even though it leaves out all seniors aged 65 thru 74 ? www.thestar.com/business/seniors-renters-and-low-income-w...

Thursday June 23, 2022 - The new, 'affordability plan' ?

Chrystia Freeland announces new $8.9 billion in aid to help Canadians deal with record-breaking inflation.. The (still unreleased) Seniors 10 % raise in OAS will serve as their part. But, but, now wait just a minute here,, how can this be ? When the 10% raise was originally promised to Seniors back in 2019 it was described simply by the PM to be a 10% raise in OAS for Seniors to start in July 2020 ? No one said anything about it being attached to, or a part of, or a share of, anything else ? This was strictly a private and independent matter made solely between the Seniors and the Government ? There was no mention of anything or anyone else, or any package deal, or that it would ever represent a portion or a share of any other different matter, nor any mention of it being aid given out to seniors in inflationary times, nor anything about any new 8.9 billion dollar Affordability Plan ?

This newly announced Affordability Plan is a separate and non-related outside issue to the original Seniors raise, and so unfortunately this means that the original promise that was made to Seniors back in 2019 is drastically changed now and is being used differently with a new and different definition ? The original 2019 raise was presented to Seniors in a private, straightforward, and unencumbered way, but it appears now that it has become connected to, or attached to, or bound up within issues that were never mentioned to Seniors back in 2019 ? And so, the original understanding held by Seniors in 2019 that it was a private benefit to be given to them only, has instead now changed and it has become a part of a different larger more multi-party social benefit matter in which Seniors are included, (and we presume that when this new Plan refers to 'Seniors', it includes all Seniors in the all-inclusive 65 + sense ?)

July 18, 2022, "Announcing 'new' support for Seniors"

July 21 st, 2022 - Minister of Seniors Kamal Khera proudly announces what she calls 'new' support for Seniors in a Facebook meeting ? She says this 'new' support is to be in the form of a 10% raise in the Seniors OAS monthly payments for those over 75 ? But, but, wait just a minute ? This is the same raise that was announced back in Sept of 2019 and was suppose to begin in July 2020 ? And this is just the same raise that we've all been waiting for ever since that time ? And so it is difficult to understand how the Minister can call anything that is 3 years old and has been 2 years late starting, as something that is new ? It's also hard to understand how anyone would consider this as 'new' support for "Seniors" with an 's' when this raise only applies to a small percentage of Seniors, ( only those over age 75) and it will exclude the majority of seniors (all those aged 65 to 74 )? Nevertheless, although it is 2 years late arriving , this announcement is most welcome and will certainly provide comfort to the 43% of eligible Seniors who qualify for the raise especially after many had given up all hope after waiting 2 years ?

July 27th, 2022 - The long awaited big Day has finally arrived ! The 43 % of eligible Canadian old age pensioners are today reporting that the very first-ever 10 % increase in payment in their pension checks that was promised to them some 3 years ago back in Sept 2019 has finally arrived.

Nov 3rd, 2022,'the Fall Economic Statement'

In a press conference, the Government has announced its new 'Fall Economic Statement' in the form of a November mini-budget. Seniors are not mentioned in the announcement ? When queried about this omission the reply was that seniors over 75 will receive a 10 % raise in OAS ? Although seniors were expecting some much-needed new assistance in this new mini budget, unfortunately, there was just another repeat usage of the 10% Seniors OAS (stuck record) raise, (that unfortunately excludes seniors age 65 thru 74) ? Incredibly, this will be the 3rd consecutive budget that will use the same 10% Seniors raise in OAS as the Seniors share ?

"Surely never before in the field of Government benefits, has a benefit been used in so many different ways and in so many different matters and by so many different Liberal politicians on so many different occasions over so many different years. "

... flat on my back in the "toes above nose" position, this is about the most perfect working angle and distance from a computer. The small monitor I have now is perfect size for working. Now I'm looking for the best and simpliest way to augment this plan.

... a laptop has been suggested with full sized keyboard and a full size mouse.

... we say my doctor yesterday and he thinks flat on my back will be my therapy for pretty much the remains of the day. He doubled my prescriptions for fluid dispersal and incresed my time each day laying down.

... Ideas welcome.

I have one of these somewhere...

The statue shows the goddess Aphrodite in a crouching position. It derives from an original made by the sculptor Doidalsas for Nicomedes II, the ruler of Bythinia, and was subsequently transported to Rome. This type is known from numerous replicas, which reflect its popularity as a decoration for gardens and baths, and the Museum of Naples also has another example of the statue. After Praxiteles had initially portrayed her naked, Aphrodite, who was now depicted in sensual human clothes, became the deity who was most frequently used for new iconographies. Here we see her bathing, waiting for water to be poured on her back, while Eros is ready to take part in the operation. The round face of the goddess is framed by her elaborate hairstyle, partially restored by Albacini, which gathers the long locks of curly hair in a thick knot on the top of her head and then in a small pony tail down to the nape of her neck. Her head faces right with respect to the body, her left arm resting on her left thigh while the right arm is bent beneath her neck allowing her hand to pull up her hair. Eros is depicted as a plump cupid with a delicate face and long curls who from behind stretches out his arms to his mother's side. The two figures form a rather affected pair, which perfectly expresses the delicate grace of Hellenistic art. (Naples National Archaeological Museum)
