A community event for all ages! Hosted on April 4th, 2015, Portland Day offered the local community an opportunity visit our new campus home, the Arlene & Harold Schnitzer Center for Art & Design, and to participate in some fun, free activities. We made robots, did some face painting, and had an awesome time!

The Portland Breakwater Light (also called Bug Light) is a small lighthouse in South Portland, Maine. The lighthouse was first built in 1855, as a wooden structure, but the breakwater was extended and a new lighthouse was constructed at the end of it in 1875. The new lighthouse was made of curved cast-iron plates whose seams are disguised by six decorative Corinthian columns. Its design was inspired by the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens, made well known by engravings. The architect was Thomas U. Walter, most noted as the designer of the U.S. Capitol east and west wings and its current dome. Wooden sheds and a six-room house for the lighthouse-keeper were added incrementally as needed. In 1897 Spring Point Ledge Light was erected and the houses around Bug Light were demolished and the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse keepers tended to both lighthouses. During World War II, the breakwater was slowly absorbed by landfill as the New England Shipbuilding Corporation built two shipyards next to the lighthouse. These shipyards produced Liberty Ships for the war effort. Because of the smaller breakwater, there was a lesser need for the lighthouse and it was decommissioned in 1943. The light was fully restored in 1989 and was reactivated in 2002. It appears as a private aid to navigation in the US Coast Guard Light List as South Portland Breakwater Light.

Underneath the Burnside Bridge near downtown Portland, a bunch of local skaters built their own skatepark.
No permission. No permits. They just did it.
But it turned out to be amazing. So amazing, in fact, that they got the city to approve it.
Yes, Portland is the greatest city in the United States.

Terminator 2's first outing was to downtown Portland for some portraits and architecture. I ended up taking mostly portraits because I met so many interesting people.
I used Fuji 160 for this roll, which meant I had to ask people to be still for 2 minutes or so. Thus, my portraits are blurry. Also note the strong vignetting. I calculated the focal size for 6x6 format, not 6x9, and I think this amount of vignetting may be just a little much. Terminator 3 may have a slightly increased focal length for the 6x9 format film back.
My Flickr friend, Yucatan, took me to the Japanese Garden today. We had an early morning start, before the heat wave hit us. After spending a few hours at these gorgeous surroundings, we had a delicious lunch together, catching up on our lives, laughing and having a jolly good time.
