Built in 1929-1931, this Gothic Revival-style suspension bridge was designed by David B. Steinman to carry the US Highway 30 Bypass across the Willamette River downstream of Downtown Portland. The bridge carries a four-lane roadway through a series of steel trusses, and features two 400 foot (120 meter) tall steel towers with gothic arches, supporting cables that carry a central span of 1,207 feet (368 meters), with the bridge having an overall length of 2,067 feet (630 meters). The bridge has become a significant landmark on Portland’s west side, and is the bridge with the most distinctive appearance in the city.
