Across The Universe
The Beatles
Words are flowing out
Like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
Are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me
Jai Guru Deva, Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light
Which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
Restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe
Jai Guru Deva, Om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Headed out last night with two great mates, to shoot the Milky Way. First time shooting this since 2013, and I was excited to say the least. We knew before we left that the tide was high at Cathedral Rock, but we took a chance and went anyhow.
Well, mother nature won that battle, and there was no (safe) way we were getting around the headland to shoot it. So, we took the safe option and shot from the beach, whilst enjoying the silence, and having a beer at midnight.
So, this is the shot I had in my head, and because of the lack of access, I've blended this image to fulfill my needs.
My main reason for going, was to see how the camera performed, and also my Sigma 35mm F1.4.
I was really happy with the outcome. Some togs say you shouldnt shoot stars that wide open, but I'm happy with the results, and it also allowed me to shoot at iso 1000 - iso 1600 which dramatically reduced the noise levels in the final image.
All in all, a great learning experience, and I now know what I need to do over the coming months, and Milky Way season in the Southern Hemisphere.
Hope you like "Across The Universe"
Cheers, Mike
Fairy Pools, Isle of Syke, Scotland. There were thousands of midges swarming around me while I took a bunch of pictures, but the view was totally worth it
I have just returned from a few days in Bude, Cornwall sadly the weather was not great with lots of heavy cloud at sunset but I did manage to find some colour in the sky!
This image was taken at Crooklets Beach of the rook pools at low tide.
15 second exposure using a Lee 6 stop "Little Stopper" ND filter with a 0.9 ND grad over the sky.
Thanks for any comments you may care to leave.

I've recently found myself drawn to finding these places where light spills through the woodland canopy.

Fairy Pools in Glen Brittle is an iconic location on the famous Isle of Skye. It consists of a string of small waterfalls, shadowed by the imposing wall of the Black Cuillins ridge

Unfortunately, there are no waterfalls at the fairy pools just now so I had to pick an alternative spot for shooting the sunrise.

Last weekend's drive to Bath County, Virginia, included a stop at the recently restored Warm Springs Pools. The natural, mineral-rich warm springs have been used for centuries for visitors to "take the waters." The original stone basin of the present Gentlemen's Bathhouse was built in 1761, with the building dating to the 1820s. The 22-sided Ladies' Bathhouse, shown in this photo, dates to the 1870s. Visitors check in at the Reception House, on the right in the photo. The pools are owned by the Omni Homestead Resort, in nearby Hot Springs, and they reopened in December 2022 after being closed several years for renovation. This was my first visit to "take the waters" following the restoration. Information from a brochure at the pools.
Many Pools hiking trail in Zion NP
It was unusual crowded in Zion this time, but there is always ways to avoid the crowd
a) go on your journey at the very early morning
b) go somewhere else, where nobody else is going ( well almost nobody else), like Many Pools trail. Maybe this place is less popular, but it was spectacular and I was the only one here at 7 am.

Amazing pools in the junction of Marakora River and Blue River in Mount Aspiring National Park. A short 15 minutes walk from the State Highway 6.

This is a photograph of the Fairy Pools; a complex of small waterfalls that cascade from the Black Cullin hills on the Isle of Skye. Despite the calm tranquil scene, the weather was horrendous with wild wind and rain. It was a struggle to keep the lens dry.

Another shot from the fairy pools in Glen Brittle. Again very challenging conditions and so sleety/wet that I couldn't use filters - so had to make do with small aperture and low iso. Thank god for the wellies - made standing in the middle of the river easier!

Winter Lights Arts Event at Canary Wharf London.
Pools Of Light.
Location :- Jubilee Park.
My sister Jan and I thought we would brighten up our winter blues by visiting this amazing exhibition, there are twenty six individual exhibits scattered around the dock area.
These large pools were covered in clear plastic tennis size balls, they created an amazing colourful spectacle when the coloured lights showed through.
