The Mammoth pools were in the devastating Creek Fire in September of 2020. I was amazed at how scarred this entire area was from the fire, 45,500 acres burned. The good news is I did see new growth sprouting up out of the land. There are several campgrounds around this reservoir. The fire was so fast that many campers were not able to evacuate ending up waiting for help by going into the water to avoid the fire. 224 campers were rescued by helicopter and taken to safety.

I want to go back & shoot here with my widest lens. I wonder if there is ever a sunset here that isn't crowded with photographers. I can totally understand why it's so crowded though. Some of them will share a spot, other's won't budge. It's ok, I get it. I'll be back ;)

What a gorgeous place this is! I could spend an entire day here, a shot of the fairy pools no the isle of Skye with lovely colours in the water.

Smooth it glides upon its travel,

Here a wimple, there a gleam –

O the clean gravel!

O the smooth stream!

Sailing blossoms, silver fishes,

Pave pools as clear as air –

How a child wishes

To live down there!

Our pool at the Kingsland Resort is awesome with steam vents, waterslides and hot tubs. This photo doesn't do it justice, but it covers a huge area :)

The Fairy Pools are one of those places you don't forget, this day was dark and gloomy.

Low tide,sandbars. and pools

Blue light is captured in the nets of ice and pools of water as the sun rises at Lighthouse West Natural Area.

The trickiest thing about producing this image wasn't the walk to location, deciding on the composition, choosing camera settings, wading through the water to get into position, or even the fickle Scottish weather. It was the editing out of other photographers in the shot. I dread to think what it must be like trying to photograph in this area during the busy summer season.

Well a patio table with pools of water - rain water all over it and halfway through taking a few shot the mottled old leaf just dropped onto the table ! Therefore I kept it in exactly where it landed seeing as providence had provided an extra prop for the shot .

This is of course my shot for SSC 27/07/2024 -- clear liquid .

A simple shot with no rambling write up this week , so straight into the Sight & Sound --

A tenuous link 'cos I like it and it takes me back straight to the early 1970s ( probably late 1972 )- or was it earlier and the Pilgrimage tour before this track , twas a long time ago !!

Starting to attain the upper reaches of Glen Brittle following Allt Coir a'Mhadaidh which forms the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, we have a fantastic view of the dramatic Cuillin Mountains which loom gloomily over the entire landscape.

What a glorious day to visit the Fairy Pools in Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye. The Pools are actually a series of falls and pools as the Allt Coir a'Mhadaidh tumbles from the impressive Cuilin Mountains which form a dramatic backdrop.

Fairy pools - The incredible fairy pools descending Coire na Creiche from the heart of the Black Cuillin with a shaft of sunlight catching the distinctive pyramidal pinnacle of Sgurr an Fheadain. A truly wonderful and inspirational location.

Happy Fence Friday!

The numerous rock pools on the Northumberland coast from Bamburgh to Seahouses are well worth exploring for sea creatures, such as crabs, anemones, starfish, and limpets. Offshore are the Farne Islands, between 15 and 20 islands depending on the level of the tide. They form an archipelago, divided into the Inner and the Outer Group.

Different piece of driftwood today!!!

Very large.

Llandanwg Beach sits between the towns of Barmouth and Harlech on the southern side of Tremadog Bay. It is also part of the wider Snowdonia National Park and situated close to the pretty Afon Dwyryd estuary.

The sand dunes to the back of the beach conceal the tiny church of Saint Tanwg which dates from the 13th century. A small path winds through the dunes and leads you to the beach from the central car park area or you can take a trail from Cardigan Bay. As you sit on the pristine sands you will also be able to enjoy vistas of the rugged Rhinog Mountains in the distance.

The beach here shelves gently into the sea making this a good place to swim, although there is no lifeguard so care should be taken. When the tide is low, it reveals a causeway out to pretty Mochras which is also known by its local nickname of Shell Island due to the plethora of different hued shells found on the its beach.

Due to its strategic position, Llandanwg Beach is shielded from the well known Welsh winds which can be a little fresh at times meaning that you can enjoy this area even in the off-season. The beach is also well-loved by locals including fisherman who come here for the plentiful supplies of bass, mackerel, flatfish, and dogfish. With that in mind keen anglers will find plenty to do here, or you can explore dainty rock pools or simply go for a stroll on the soft, pristine sand.

Amenities at Traeth Llandanwg include disabled access and the village is also home to the quaint Y Maes Cafe close to the beach which operates from June to October.

Bourke’s Luck, South Africa.

Taken on the evening I ventured out to Budle bay at Bamburgh in Northumberland.

By the time I go to this spot sunset time had been and gone, there had not actually been a sight of the sun but the colours were there and picked up nicely in the rock pools too, this is looking towards the North West, you can see Lindisfarne Castle on the horizon.

The Figure Eight Pools are a unique formation of natural pools on the rock shelf on the coastline of the Royal National Park south of Sydney. It takes some planning to reach this spot as only, safely, accessible at low tide. We walked there from Otford Train Station and return. A very hot and humid day so we were soaked of sweat getting there. My second visit. As I learned from my first visit a few weeks, the waves can be very unpredictable so easy to get hit by a wave as happened then! This perfectly shaped pool is deep and looks very picturesque from any angle, framed by the ocean on one side with dramatic cliffs on the other side. Hardly any people at the time, = very unusual so had time to male the most of it experimenting with different points of view. This classic composition turned out the best I think.

Spring on the Isle of Skye…. freezing, gale force winds and snow (just after this was taken)…. hmmm, lovely.

This this is near the top of the Fairy Pools, which is a series of waterfalls and plunge pools on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
