The library hosted a swim party for all kids 6-18 who had read over 30 books in the Texas Reading Club. There was fun in the Friendswood pool, plus grilled hot dogs by the Boy Scouts and popsicles for everyone!
Saltcoats swimming pool started off as a small pool before being reconstructed by the Burgh Council in 1933 to the large pool, shown above. It was opened on 10th June 1933 on the site of the old bathing station that had been a favourite spot for bathers for 50 years. Prior to that, it was the harbour that was the focus for bathers.
The formal opening was carried out by the Right Honourable The Lord Provost of Glasgow at 2.30pm on Saturday 10th June. After a fine spell of weather, the skies were dull and rain fell but that did not deter the programme of swimming and diving that had been arranged.
In its day it was the finest open-air pool in Scotland, with modern changing rooms, showers, and a tea room. It was even equipped with flood lights for midnight bathing, weather permitting. As many as 2,000 visitors would visit the pool on any day during July and August.
However, it had long been recognised that an indoor pool was essential due to the increase in demand and because swimming was an all year round sport. In May 1973 a new indoor pool at Auchenharvie in Stevenston was opened.

Our backyard pool, enough to cool off on these hot days without the cost or upkeep of a normal pool.

Poynton Pool was the ornamental lake for Lord Vernon's residences Poynton Hall and latterly Poynton Towers. It is located in Poynton Park, the site of Poynton Show, held on the Saturday before August Bank Holiday Monday.
At other times, Poynton Pool is very popular with anglers.
The pool in winter. Designed after the Expressive Modernism movement this pool opened in 1967 - Edmonton hadn't seen any architecture like this before. Rumor has it that the pool was the thickness of two tiles short of being classified as an Olympic Sized Pool.
Mr Hemingway won the Massey Medal for Architecture, the highest honor in in Canadian architecture.

The SLSNSW Pool Rescue Championships is fast gaining reputation as one of the biggest and best pool rescue events on the Surf Sports calendar. Each year, the event grows in numbers and each year NSW are developing more elite athletes that are going on to represent their country in International pool rescue events.
