In the Peak District, there is a particularly desolate and sinister outcropping of rock and scrubland around the Staffordshire-Derbyshire border... One narrow road rises high from the old mill town of Leek in North Staffordshire and crosses the ancient moorland to Roman Buxton, the spa town of the Peaks... Somewhere in between is "The Roaches"...
The Peak lands had been isolated until as late as the first quarter of the twentieth century... Even now there are those living in the lonely farms who respect the Elder Gods... the modern world casts little of its glittering light into these parts... here the sprites and boggarts of the Elder Gods hold sway to this day... The Elder Gods themselves cast dark shadows, so that even during the hot bright languid days of deepest Summer, there is an uneasy air of quiet and unspeakable isolation... at night - well, few people would venture out there at night... there's something about the bleak moorland, the rocky outcroppings and the water pools up there... and one pool in particular inspires shivers... Doxey
People tend not to talk about Doxey Pool... High atop the rocky moorland outcrop known as The Roaches, the pool sits still and cold and brooding, a repository of its own long history... it keeps its own counsel and for the most part, its own secrets... Few locals will talk of it... fewer still would ever venture to visit it, even in daylight.
this was a funny jump. it looks like one of those LOLcat posts (invisible sandwich, invisible bicycle, etc.). I can't decide what invisible activity she's doing though.
It was a beautiful hot day, and we spent the afternoon at the Sea Point pool. Luca had a great time playing the pool with his floatie.
Garden and pool of Hotel Carmen Teresa. Enjoy our littel garden and sunshine in our sunbeds, of course with a cocktail or with a great spanish wine. If you prefer beach, just 300 meters you have the Carihuela Beach, the best of Torremolinos and one of the moust famous in Costa del Sol.
Close to home.
A heavy frost. This area has become so overgrown that you can only get a decent glimpse of the pool after the leaves have fallen.
A few shots of the Vincii hotel in Buenavista which hosted the players for the 2010 Tenerife Ladies Open.
The hotel is located right on the Buenavista course - very convenient.
This is an 86-year old friend of mine, Bill. He rocks in every way, and starting out my morning in an outdoor heated pool with him for Water Aerobics makes every day better.
Update to this: he passed away during the worst part of the pandemic and we didn’t get to pay our respects. I miss him.
This 10-foot-tall Pool Player once stood upon the roof of Doc and Eddy’s Pool Hall. Though he has come down to take his perpetual shot at ground level, he still towers above the rest.
This mammoth dude’s body is made of hand-welded steel, his hair locks are made from rebar and his clothes, including jeans and the partially unbuttoned shirt, have been painted on. What he lacks in light-up elements, he makes up for in swagger.
