A massive thunderstorm was boiling up behind us from the Uintas and made the sky this impossibly beautiful pink.
I walked past the couch in my bedroom last night and caught sight of an animal lying flat on the cushions and I thought, "how did a deer get in here?" {I know, I'm not quite sane.]
and then I realized it was chai. I grabbed the first camera at hand, a polaroid and quickly took one shot, tried for another but the camera was out of film. so I grabbed another polaroid and shot a second, but chai had raised his head by then.
the first shot didn't come out.
he's still deer-like even with his ears down.

schubert had been chewing on a growth on his back. nothing we put on would help him. I was going to resort to an E collar, ugh, when ann made a suggestion. [thank you, ann]
we gave schubert one of my tees, and knotted it to fit.

I still need to respond to all the comments from Polaroid Week. I swear I’ll get to them! Either working or out taking photographs most of the time lately.

too bright to get the sun, I have to think on this. maybe almost sunset. the sun here is in the middle. I wore dark sunglasses and tried to get the sun to the side, but when I clicked the shutter it moved. [I mean, I moved. unstable hands.]
but there are some really interesting textures that appeared when you view the photo in large size.
This cannon on Sandy Hook was once part of the defenses of Fort Hancock, the Coast Guard base at the northern tip of Sandy Hook. Fort Hancock was set up to defend New York Harbor. Like us, Ukraine has a coast to defend. Not with a weapon like this, though, the likes of which probably last saw Ukraine in the Crimean War.
Ukraine is the breadbasket of the world. Their soil is rich and dark. They grow wheat and export it widely. I think I saw that they grow something like 20% of the wheat in the world. The country is filled with scenes not a million miles away from this. The war is making this difficult and may result in hunger and famine in countries very distant from Ukraine.

You may have seen a recent video by WCK's CEO Nate Mook about their kitchen in Kharkiv getting hit by a Russian missile. That's how close to the front lines they get.
