This is a very funny experiment that we tried. It is called Painting with light... In absolutel darkness you start shooting with looong exposure and the object is lit by a moving torch. This is what happens in the end:)

Long exposure where Camille drew her own wings with a small flashlight and then took a step forward and I hit her with a SB-28 hand held flash.

It's meant to be in the shape of a heart... but it went a bit wrong! Ohh well.

Took these indoors [made sure there was nothing about that would catch fire from a stray spark]. Except i forgot that these one's produce rather a lot of smoke... which set the fire alarm off. lol. Was good to know that while the rest of the house was sleeping... the fire alarm blaring away managed to wake no one up. That's useful in the case of emergency(!)

Everything is possible with light

They'll mash you, smash you, chew you up and then have you for dinner and lunch.

Strobist Info:

This was done using a bowen strobe and soft box placed above the subject.

Foam sheets where used to reduce external reflections, plus a white piece of cardboard was used to reduce the light hitting the tomatoes.

Avoiding strong highlights on the tomatoes can be a challenge.

If photography (from Greek) is literally drawing with light #playingwithlight, then my best Christmas message to all my photography friends is SHINE - for today and forever! Merry Christmas folks! Love from Ray x

limited for space here but i think it proves it has a little potential.

straight out of the camera, for the SOOC heads!

sunny like a summers day outside

This picture was taken back in 2010 after I bought my camera. My friend Himel was running with his mobile phone and i was holding my camera with a support of some brick :P

Its about time I started to use the hundred weight of wire wool I scored for last year.

Man last night was fun!!!!!!!! We met up with Pixelated~Light and Lomo-Cam a little after Midnight at Moore's Crossing Bridge for some Light Painting. It was one humid night but the Moon was at her best and we got some pretty damn nice shots. One of the best things about meeting up with the ATX Light Junkies is we always learn a lot and its always a great adventure, Even Team Jacob showed up for a bit lmao :)

Christmas tree lights from outside our window

Just before sunset, the cruise boats head out of Honolulu Harbor to patrol the waters off Waikiki. They are full of people taking pictures of the sunset, dining and enjoying the scenery.

Strolling around Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Sunday, enjoying the sunshine.

I was drawn to the shadows on the path and how they played on people as walked though them...so I stood just shooting. As they got to the bottom he made his entrance! lol

Then he asked, "you really didn't get my picture did you"?

Oh, yes I did lol!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!

I painted the letters over a year ago with some light absorbent paint..

After our new LED light stick arrived on Friday we have been itching to get it out of the box, fired up and see what sort of results it can produce in long exposure images - this is the first of four test images shot tonight in the living room of my house.

Looks damn good and we're looking forward to having some fun with this new toy out on location soon.

This is probably my favourite of the 4 test images - mainly due to that awesome flowing blue light on the right hand side.

A big thanks to Johnny Dickerson for bringing out all the light toys and teaching Kamphora and I about the nuances of Light Art Performance Photography.

Further playings with the PointyThing drawing with LEDs and long exposure.

Last Saturday I went to the Bastille Day Festival in Northern Liberties. Apparently its been going on for 16 years now, and I never even knew!!! The blocks in front of the Eastern State Penitentiary are closed off for a festival celebrating all things French. The festival culminates in a "mock" storming of the castle after Marie Antoinette and soldiers attack the crowd with twinkies a la "Let them eat Tastycake"! It was a fun event to cover, and I'm glad I went. And the cliché? Well, come one, Storm Troopers zapped by some lens flare from other space? Come one!!!

The light from the rock illuminates the beauty of the rock.

Playing with the afternoon sunlight today.

... more playing with kaleidoscopes. We have two of those kids kaleidoscopes (see kaleidoscope food pic), so what happens if you put one in front of the other? This was looking at the sky. The patterns you get are fantastic.

Another plumeria shot. (One of the Happy Plumerias.)
