An old photograph taken in New Cross Road (Queen's Road out of shot on the right), of London Transport (LT) E/1 class tram No. 1380 showing '38 - Abbey Wood via Old Kent Rd' destination blinds.

The photo reverse is initialled by the photographer and negative owner 'ADP' (A. D. Packer).

No. 1380 was an ex London County Council Tramways (LCC) car built in 1909 by Hurst Nelson seating 27/46 and running on Hurst Nelson (LCC class 4A) maximum traction trucks. In Aug 1929 it was 'pullmanised' (modernised) getting upholstered seats and a brightened up interior.

In 1933 its ownership transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) and in Aug 1936 it was reconditioned/rehabilitated (aka a 'rehab car') which included having driver screens (platform vestibules) fitted. It was withdrawn from service in Aug 1951 and disposed of (broken up or sold) in the Penhall Road Works.

The parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed on 05 Jul 1952.

20 311 and 20 314 approach Wilnecote in the pouring rain with 7X10 04.32 Fenny Compton to Derby Litchurch Lane returning a rake of London Underground S-Stock for signaling modifications. The consist is viewed through the immense amount of platform 'equipment' provided at the station.

A view that was always intresting was this view from the platform end at London Kings Cross loco,s coming on and off the stabling point at York way, here is Class40 40153 rumbling rolling and lurching it way out of the yard, i spent a couple of hours at the Cross that morning seeing 55012 55018 47039 47045 47224 47313 47403 47407 47420 47422 47425 47433 31122 31126 31201 31209 31213 31218 31405. 09/08/1975.
