Annan railway station serves the town of Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is located on the Glasgow South Western Line 17 miles (28.2 km) northwest of Carlisle and is managed by Abellio ScotRail, which provides nearly all passenger train services with Northern running two to Newcastle.
Until the early 1980s, the goods yard at Annan station was still in regular use. The station was also used to dispatch fresh fish to London until the mid to late 1980s.
Shortly after leaving Annan station on a westbound service to Dumfries, the line crosses a viaduct over the River Annan and adjoining flood plains. Also just to the west of Annan is a disused junction and dismantled line heading south to the Cochran's Boiler plant at Newbie.
Opened by the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway, then run by the Glasgow and South Western Railway, it became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The station then passed on to the Scottish Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948.
In 1975, the section of line eastwards to Gretna Junction was singled by British Rail as part of the West Coast Main Line electrification and re-signalling scheme, with control shared between the power box at Carlisle and the signal box at the station. However the second track was re-instated in 2008 by Network Rail to help deal with increased traffic levels (mainly train loads of imported coal from the deep water terminal at Hunterston to power stations in the East Midlands & West Yorkshire).
When sectorisation was introduced in the 1980s, the station was served by ScotRail until the privatisation of British Rail.
At one point in its history, Annan was served by two railway stations (1870 - 1931). Annan Shawhill station was on the long-disused Solway Junction Railway which ran from Kirtlebridge on the current West Coast Main Line through the east side of Annan, across the Solway Firth and on to Maryport in Cumbria.
after not finding anything for a few weeks, today i purchased a vintage nelson slat bench. this 72 incher, while not the largest ever produced, matches the largest reproduction that herman miller still produces. from hermanmiller.com:
"'Introduced in 1946 the Nelson platform bench was part of George Nelson's first collection for Herman Miller and still stands as a benchmark of modern design. Like much of Nelson's work, the platform bench has clean, rectilinear lines, reflecting his architectural background and his insistence on what he calls "honest" design--that is, making an honest visual statement about an object's purpose.
As presented in the 1948 Herman Miller furniture catalog, the platform bench "is primarily a high base for deep and shallow cases, but it also serves as a low table for extra seating." The 1955 catalog states that the bench "has proved to be one of the most flexible and useful units in the collection." The bench was reintroduced in 1994.'"

Almost inconspicuous in the undergrowth on the LHS is the decaying wooden body of a former CR or NBR box van. I'm sure I've ID'd it before but it escapes me...

The Stockholm subway has some great vistas for photography, and this is undoubtedly one of them. Standing just by the end of the platform, I got this dramatic view of the space.
The water platforms.
These 2 platforms sit just off the beach at the Sizewell nuclear power plant.
Now abandoned, save for the 100's of birds, they once ran coolant water into, and out of, the plant. The cold water inlet was the furthest platform, with the hot water outlet being the nearest.
By all accounts when swimming in the sea it was noticeably warmer around the hot water outlet.
3 eyed fish anyone?
The driver of 158 853 2H93 Carlisle to Leeds checks all is well before heading off south from Garsdale.

Too many memories for me off this platform and on this station; the soundtrack of wheel squeal and compressors coming into action in the background.

The Setas de Sevilla, also known as the Metropol Parasol, is a modern architectural structure in the Spanish city of Seville. It was designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer and was completed in 2011.
The Metropol Parasol is the largest wooden structure in the world and consists of six large umbrella-shaped elements placed on a rectangular platform. The platform also contains an archaeological museum, terraces and restaurants.
