Who doesn't love garlic in any form. It's good together with spices, as a taster, as a sauce and yes even as raw.
Here is a close up of a garlic clove.
Happy MM!
Some studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, to prevent an interaction, it should not be taken in combination with blood pressure medications.
Animal studies have found that hibiscus extract has antioxidant properties. Additional studies are needed to determine how this may translate to humans.
Some studies have shown that hibiscus tea may reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in those with diabetes and metabolic syndrome. However, other studies have produced conflicting results. More research is needed in the general population
We stopped here on our way home from Matthiessen and each got one of their pizzas (I’m Corny & I’m Old School). Some of the best pizza we’ve ever had!
I eat these chia seeds basically everyday and feel amazed on how small they are and how beautiful these incredible marbles-details look as a macro.
Hope you enjoy it!! :)
Happy MM
Did I trick you for a minute thinking it would be about humans? This is a plant, a bit of a prickly popsicle that looks quite delicious to me considering I eat a plant based diet. So, right after I take macro photos of plants, I pretty much scream, "You look delicious!" right in their faces, which is probably pretty intimidating. Also, cactus is especially delicious when you remove the thorns and saute it with seasonings. Chicago doesn't have a ton of it, unfortunately, or fortunately for them because I'd probably spend all day pointing at the desert going, "I'm going to eat you...! And you! And you!"
Anyway, eat your veggies!

In Omaha, Nebraska. We stopped here for lunch and had the nachos mole & turki club. Got it to go and enjoyed it on a bench in the park across the street while listening to live violin music. It was a great break from the road!
A vegetarian coffeehouse in Madison. We decided to go to Madtown to celebrate 23 years together by visiting two vegan establishments and checking out a state park.
We got a coffee and the best donut we’ve ever had (from Level 5 Donuts). They have a street art wall that changes on a regular basis and I was thrilled to see that a blue heron graced it when we visited.
We’ve been wanting to visit this vegan restaurant since it opened and finally did today! We got mozzarella sticks and two burgers (the Superbad and Up In Smoke), plus a freshly squeezed strawberry lemonade. The burgers came with the best waffle fries we’ve ever had. It was great to eat at a vegan restaurant again. It’s been a while!
As a vegan I eat as healthy as possible every day. This weekend I did these quesadillas with beans, red onion and tortilla bread. All of course organic. My contribution for the "healthy" theme in Photo Sunday.
Som vegan äter jag så hälsosamt som möjligt varje dag. I helgen gjorde jag dessa quesadillas med bönor, rödlök och tortillabröd. Allt så klart ekologisk. Mitt val för "nyttigt" i Fotosöndag.
We finally broke down and bought a camp stove, which we’re very glad we did! It really gives us a lot more options while we’re camping. On our first morning in Virginia, Mike made us vegan breakfast sandwiches (the first meal we made with it) and they turned out really great. We enjoyed them while wrapped in blankets (it was in the upper 30’s), watching the river while the sun came up.
veganer Zebra-Cheesecake geht immer, leider darf ich noch nicht naschen :'(
Vorfreude ist auch ok, wenn sie nicht ZU lange dauert
We stopped in here for a breakfast sandwich and hash browns. SO good! I love how colorful it was inside & out and the server was extremely friendly & upbeat. We would definitely eat here again if we go back to the area.
We had the patio area all to ourselves at Fern’s Diner and sat at a picnic table that looked out over the river below us.
Located at the base of Pike’s Peak, this vegan restaurant serves fantastic food! We had the cheese curds, brunch wrap, and patty melt. All were delicious!
Going vegan didn’t come easy for me. I knew I should do it, but I fought it. I questioned it. I could forget it….. for a while. Finally, I could no longer ignore it or deny it, especially when I had the support of Mike to do it with.
We went vegan together in July of 2006 and suddenly, I wondered what took me so long. What was once in my mind as a hard, insurmountable task became easy. Now, it’s second nature.
Being vegan makes me feel more like “me”. It feels natural. It’s such a large part of my values and who I am that the time before it seems alien to me now.
This photo is from the inside of Urban Beets in Wauwatosa. They have plants growing all over the place and we found the entire cafe quite delightful!
Piante was the 25th vegan restaurant we’ve eaten at (all 25 restaurants are in 8 states) and it was definitely a meal to remember! The weather was perfect, we dined outside with a view of the mountains, and the meal itself was perfection. We started with wood fired stuffed mushrooms, then Mike had the The Finley cheesesteak sandwich and I had the Piante salad (best salad I’ve ever had). We hope to get a chance to go back and try one of their pizzas someday.
Update- they are no longer a fully vegan restaurant as of 2025. Such a shame!
Our pepper plants are doing very well this year! So far we’ve pickled four large jars of banana peppers, one jar of jalapeños, and made eight bottles of hot sauce (mostly fresno peppers with some jalapeño & banana thrown in). We’ve also used them for cooking quite a bit.
The cucumbers have been the same. We’ve had so many that we’ve been giving a lot of them away. It’s been great having fresh veggies!
A tiny neighborhood type cafe in Milwaukee that’s pretty new and 100% vegan (the 20th vegan restaurant we’ve eaten at!). We had the chorizo burrito and breakfast sammie. Both we would definitely get again because they were delicious perfection.
After we got home, we went for a long hike in the Kettle Moraine Forest and the food powered us through the entire thing. It was a sunny, 50 degree day that was much needed after all the cold & gloom of the past three weeks. We also were quite excited to hear frogs and see a snake!
