Went out for a much needed hike this weekend - got up early, packed everything the night before, was very excited to spend a day on the trail hunting photos.
About a mile in I realized I forgot my batteries - doh! What a rookie mistake.
This is a nice consolation prize taken with the Google Pixel 4a - a nice little camera on a phone.

I've been doing morning walks with Jinx, and it's lovely to be out early in the morning.
I should really be out even earlier, but alas, lockdown lazy.
Lovely pools of water in Barton fields ... and of course Jinx
More snow than I've ever seen at our house. The yard, the driveway, and the street are almost indistinguishable. Our solar panels are covered in snow too

Not quiet what the group is about, but I'm hoping I won't get into trouble for it.
Cold morning this morning, hopefully snow tomorrow.
I'm hoping for it !
A dark night scene taken with a Pixel 4A using the "Night Sight" mode. This is "computational photography," Handheld mobile phone, several second exposure and multiple exposures that are processed to render what the computer (AI) believes the scene looks like. Not perfect, but far better than anything I could get without a tripod.
The Milky Way
The view from my new dark site. Unlike my previous spot, this place is completely dark with absolutely zero lights around. I captured the Milky Way rising at 03:47, just before I started packing up for the night. The quality of the images from this phone is absolutely amazing!

for We're Here and Whispery White Wednesday
Sitting on the top front seat on my way home today, then rain made everything look wave and watery .. I loved it... with a nice black and white .. it's even better :)
Orion and Canis Major
The view from my new dark site. Unlike my previous spot, this place is completely dark with absolutely zero lights around. The winter constellations are now setting shortly after twilight ends.

his waterfall scene in the Scottish Highlands had everything going on harsh sunlight, deep shadows, and tons of texture but the Pixel 4a absolutely nailed it. The way it handled the dynamic range is seriously impressive. You can see detail in the dark rocks, the bright sky isn't blown out, and the water looks so alive.
I didn’t use any heavy editing, just a few light adjustments. It's crazy how a phone this compact and affordable can deliver results like this.
Even in 2025, this little device still holds its own proof that you don’t always need the latest flagship to capture epic scenes like this.

Tuna the cat, Mörfelden-Walldorf 2020
taken with the Google Pixel 4a phone in portrait mode, converted to a bw portrait in the phone
I haven't posted lately because I've been down due to the loss of our cat, Sophie, last Monday. I'll miss her curling up next to me in the evening while I read or watch TV. I took this photo of her having her last cat nap with me Sunday. RIP Sophie, 2002-2021
The Milky Way
Testing out the Google Pixel 4a! I didn't think a phone could shoot long exposures with this level of quality. Now I can achieve a similar result for wide-field shots using either a DSLR or a phone, which is pretty unbelievable.
The Google Pixel's astrophotography mode is revolutionary. The built-in astrophotography mode can produce some incredible images in raw format. It automatically stacks 15 exposures of 16 seconds each and saves the stack as a raw image. It is super convenient for quick shots like this.

for We're Here and codes
I had to shut down all the power in the office so we can make changes, which meant full shutdown of all my servers etc.
I also had to install some new ones, which was nice.
Saw the nice plugs .. and the nice PAT stickers.
What's PAT you ask?
