Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Charlotte in a homage to the Tuskegee Airmen of WW2. The famed Tuskegee Airmen experiment had quite the struggle in the beginning. Founded in 1941 with the 99th Pursuit Squadron based at Tuskegee University, Alabama, the all African-American group contained only 47 officers and 429 enlisted men. After passing primary training, the men were moved to the Tuskegee Army Air field where they learned all three different types of training (basic to advanced to transition). The program grew, even with heavy opposition from Washington DC, and by mid 1941 the number was in the thousands. It took until 1943 until the 99th was considered 'ready for combat duty' and shipped to North Africa where they joined the 33rd Fighter Group with P-40 Warhawks. When the group was moved to Sicily, Italy, they became the 332nd Fighter group with P-47 Thunderbolts. It was an uphill climb for them, in a world still heavily segregated, but they made a big name for themselves by escorting the bombers from the 15th Air Force earning an impressive record. With such a great service record, they were finally able to acquire new P-51 Mustangs. It was around this time they they became known as the 'Red Tails' because of the red markings applied to the tail of the aircraft. Nearly 1,000 pilots were trained through the program, of which 355 went overseas and 84 were lost. they went on 1,578 combat missions with 179 bomber escort missions and 112 enemy aircraft destroyed. A huge salute to the incredible Tuskegee Airmen!

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Rachel in this Thanksgiving Pinup! Some Thanksgiving trivia: It actually lasted three days and some evidence seems to show that likely there were actually no women at the event. And the traditional turkey? History seems to point to the fact that it was more like deer and fowl like geese and ducks at the table so there probably wasn't any turkey. It took nearly 300 years later for the turkey to end up becoming that holiday symbol partly due to literature at the time that portrayed turkey dinners in the way we all envision on the Thanksgiving table. These writings took hold and around then it's believed the Turkey was adopted as the Thanksgiving bird of choice.

Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Kayla in another part of the ongoing series 'color pinups'. This series will look at the classic styles of artists such as Pearl Frush, Earl Moran, and Peter Driben who often features simplistic pinup artwork with just the pinup girl, possibly a few props, and a very bright colorful background. Light falling on the pinup girl for many of the pinups would come from offscreen somewhere, highlighting parts of the girl. This is a look back at these classic 1950s style of pinup artwork.

Today's pinup features Samantha in this Beach themed shot! I'm going to be posting 'real' studio shots (with some added backgrounds) of pinups throughout this and next week in celebration of the real models who make Dietz Dolls happen. This pinup is another 'real pinup photo' that I'm posting occasionally throughout the year to remind those who enjoy my pinup work that every pinup you see starts as a studio taken photograph. The uniforms and equipment are real and the models are really in the studio. I prefer the vintage style processing in the finished product over just having a real studio photograph as it's unique. There are countless pinup photographers out there who shoot and post pinup shots that are crisp, clear, and modern day looking. It's a similar pinup style you can see just about everywhere which is the reason Dietz Dolls pinups are made to resemble the 1940s and 1950s style pinup artwork from artists like George Petty, Vargas, Gil Elvgren, Pearl Frush, Bill Randall, etc. But, in doing this process, often viewers of Dietz Dolls pinups may forget that these are real models shot in the studio. So, I'll occasionally post a 'real' photo without the vintage effect to showcase the beautiful models who have contributed to Dietz Dolls' success.

Today's BRAND NEW airbrushed style pinup photo features Melissa in a 1940s style Coca Cola advertisement! From the 1930s into the 1940s, Coca Cola pushed the 'Coca Cola Girl' into their advertising quite heavily. Often doing some everyday task from working in a factory, serving in the military, or even playing at the beach with the gals always taking a break from their current task to have a Coke (in order to 'Refresh' themselves before continuing on with that task). This retro advertisement is part of the ongoing Coca Cola original ad recreations. The colors, fonts, language, and graphics of these have been meticulously researched and recreated to match the original style of the advertisements.
