Est l'une des grandes espèces de corvidés parmi les plus répandues en Europe et dans une grande partie de l'Asie. Les pies peuvent aisément être identifiées grâce à leur morphologie et à leur plumage noir et blanc caractéristique. Il existe 13 sous-espèces de pie bavarde.
La pie bavarde arbore un plumage noir sur le dessus du corps, au niveau de la tête, de la poitrine et de la partie sous-caudale, et blanc au niveau du ventre, des flancs, des rémiges primaires et à la base des ailes. Le plumage noir montre des reflets métalliques, bleuâtres sur les ailes, violacés sur le corps et la tête, et verdâtres sur la queue, dus à une iridescence des plumes. Le bec est noir, de même que les pattes et l'iris des yeux. Cet oiseau d'assez grande taille (de 44 à 56 cm de longueur7) est doté d'une longue queue (de 20 à 30 cm). L'envergure varie de 52 à 60 cm et le poids de 190 à 250 g8. Le mâle est légèrement plus grand que la
femelle, mais il n'existe pas de réel dimorphisme sexuel chez cette espèce.

Is one of the largest corvid species among the most widespread in Europe and in much of Asia. Magpies can easily be identified thanks to their morphology and their characteristic black and white plumage. There are 13 subspecies of Pied Magpie.
The chatty magpie has black plumage on the top of the body, at the level of the head, the chest and the undertail part, and white on the belly, flanks, primary flight feathers and at the base of the wings. The black plumage shows metallic reflections, bluish on the wings, purplish on the body and the head, and greenish on the tail, due to an iridescence of the feathers. The beak is black, as are the legs and iris of the eyes. This fairly large bird (44 to 56 cm long7) has a long tail (20 to 30 cm). The wingspan varies from 52 to 60 cm and the weight from 190 to 250 g8. The male is slightly larger than the
female, but there is no real sexual dimorphism in this species.

Cala Pi, Balearic Islands. Built 1543 when the Turkish and Berebers where a constant threat for Mallorca. As a way to protect Llucmajor city. This pirate watchtower marks the spot of this tiny cove. A slip of sun-bleached sand, luminous turquoise water and sky-high headlands are your reward for the 147-step climb down!
Masque noir de Zorro, dos roux et bec légèrement crochu… pas de doute, vous observez un mâle de pie grièche écorcheur.
Elle empale régulièrement ses proies, d'où le nom d'« écorcheur ». Il semble toutefois que cette pratique soit essentiellement le fait d'oiseaux vivant en milieu tempéré car ce comportement vise à constituer des stocks de nourriture censés pondérer l'abondance des proies et donc des captures en fonction des conditions météorologiques.
First quick trip out for 2019 and went out with something completely different in mind. I wasn't able to get the shot I wanted (due to many reasons, including misjudging the tide and the poor weather), but fortunately I didn't come back empty-handed. On the way back to the car, I spotted this structure in the water and thought I would give it a go. Nothing special, but I do like the overall feeling of the image
Another in my series of "Once in a Blue Moon" portraits. This customer had the first 100 digits of Pi tattooed up his arm and shoulder. For those curious I only saw the first 73 of them, though he did offer to remove his shirt right there in the store. We really do have one of the most interesting, and coolest, customer bases. Now too bad I cannot remember which camera I was shooting that day. Think this was the Leica M3...

yesterday I opened the mail to find a wonderful package from our good friend Christel, it was a real bright spot in an otherwise cloudy week! She sent me this lovely necklace as well as a reusable shopping bag which folds into a tiny purse!
