Scène amusante dans un arbre en face de mon terrain : une pie qui chasse un écureuil alors qu'il était là avant elle et qu'il n'y a pas de nid à côté.

I love these tasty little morsels. Happy Pi day to all those who write their dates backwards! At We’re Here! we are joining the group European Pi Day for 24 hours:

Group description: “The group is to celebrate Pi, that number which goes on forever and is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. An approximation to this is the improper fraction 22/7. In America, where they turn the date inside out, Pi Day is March the 14th (3.14) but in most of the rest of the world it's the 22nd of July (22/7).”

When my father and I went down to Pittston one rainy day in 2022, we ended up exploring the old roundhouse while waiting for PIME to leave. It was a good way to spend time as the time passed without us realizing it. After a few hours we were greeted with a large train with power on both ends heading north to Mehoopany. An MP15 led north, with a GP30 rebuild paired with an SD38 on the rear. This gave us the opportunity to photograph both ends of the train in multiple locations that had a south and northbound shot, and one of the better images came in the valley right outside of Pittston.

This area of the old Lehigh Valley is one of my favorites, a line coming out of the valley and winding its way along the Susquehanna river all the way up towards Sayre. It feels like there's about 2 miles of straight track in the entire section. While I'm far too young to have even had a slight chance of seeing Lehigh Valley power here, let alone an ME-1, this did just fine for me.

It was nice to get a good chase with a solid set of power on each end, with my dad who doesn't get out and do this stuff as much as he used to out enjoying it as well. At this time I was slightly obsessed with photographing all the SD38s on the RBMN roster, and this was another one checked off the list, the 2003 being my favorite of them all.

Lanius collurio.

Red-backed Schrike.
