I did this while at Art college in Watford in the sixties. The Photographic department was at the Printing college on Hempstead Road, Watford being a big print town at that time. This was my take on a photogram exercise set by Raymond Moore, photographer and tutor. Made using an enlarger with a simple mask and fluids (very 60's :-) and an improvised turn table made from an Ilford bromide box and drawing pin. Mark Boyle who did lightshows for 'The Soft Machine' and 'Jimi Hendrix' was also a tutor at Watford at that time.
As much as I hate Wednesdays, photo lab is like the best way to start off any day.
Started photograms today (lay stuff on the paper, expose it, develop, etc etc, creates the negative, put negative face down on paper, expose and develop, ta dah!) So this is my best and final (sorry my hands are in there, part of the 365 of course). I absolutely loved it, i ended up spending extra time after class to finish up because I couldn't wait. My professor (David Rathurn, if you've ever heard of him) loved them! He told me over and over how great I did, and I was "the leader of the pack" today. :)
I'm so glad I spent time as a young child in the dark room. Without that experience, I probably would have been so nervous for today. I forgot how almost peaceful it can be in there, with just the safe lights on... anyways, my hands smell like chemicals (which of course makes me happy), and now I'm off to life drawing :P Working still on hands, but starting to get into the head/portraits
