I Piani di Bobbio sono una nota stazione sciistica della Valsassina, in provincia di Lecco.

Situati nel territorio del comune di Barzio, si trovano al confine con la provincia di Bergamo; le piste da sci dei Piani di Bobbio e quelle di Valtorta fanno infatti parte di un unico comprensorio sciistico. La zona è inoltre rinomata per i numerosi sentieri, che comprendono anche le vie ferrate sul Gruppo dei Campelli.

Lake Iseo or Lago d'Iseo or Sebino is the fourth largest lake in Lombardy, Italy, fed by the Oglio river.

It is in the north of the country in the Val Camonica area, near the cities of Brescia and Bergamo. The lake is almost equally divided between the Provinces of Bergamo and Brescia. This is a heavily industrialised part of the world, but the area remains one of outstanding natural beauty. The road north to Switzerland used to run along the side of the lake, and stories about entire families being swallowed up by the murky waters abound. A much safer road, carved into the side of the mountains, now exists.

Il lago d'Iseo o Sebino (in lombardo lac d'Izé) è un bacino lacustre dell'Italia settentrionale, situato in Lombardia. Ha come principale immissario ed emissario il fiume Oglio. Ha una superficie di 65,3 km2 e una profondità massima di 251 metri è situato a 180 m di quota nelle prealpi, posto in fondo alla Val Camonica, si incunea tra le province di Bergamo e di Brescia ed ospita la più grande isola lacustre naturale dell'Italia: Monte Isola cui fanno da satelliti a nord e a sud i due isolotti di Loreto e di San Paolo.

È la terza chiesa eretta su questo luogo: la prima era una rotonda a ferro di cavallo con quattro absidi, uno dei primi edifici cristiani della Boemia, costruita da San Venceslao (929); la seconda era la basilica di Vratislav e Spytihnev, in stile romanico, con tre navate, costruita tra 1060 e 1096; infine nel 1344 Mathieu d'Arras, incaricato da Carlo IV, iniziò la costruzione di una cattedrale gotica, che fu completata solo nel 1929.

Circa trenta incoronazioni di principi e re Boemi e delle loro mogli hanno avuto luogo nella Cattedrale e per molti di loro la cattedrale è diventata anche il luogo di riposo - circa quindici monarchi sono seppelliti qui.

The full name of the cathedral is St. Vitus, St. Wenceslas and St. Adalbert Cathedral. Il nome Etna potrebbe risalire alla pronuncia del greco antico[3] del toponimo Aitna (Aἴτνα-ας), nome che fu anche attribuito alle città di Catania e Inessa, che deriva dalla parola greca aitho (bruciare) o dalla parola fenicia attano (fornace). L'Etna era conosciuto nell'età romana come Aetna. Gli Arabi chiamavano la montagna Jabal al-burkān o Jabal Aṭma Ṣiqilliyya ("vulcano" o "montagna somma della Sicilia"); questo nome fu più tardi mutato in Mons Gibel cioè: la montagna due volte (dal latino mons "monte" e dall'arabo Jebel "monte") proprio per indicarne la sua maestosità. E il termine Mongibello rimase di uso comune praticamente fin quasi ai nostri giorni (ancora oggi qualche anziano chiama l'Etna in questa maniera). Secondo un'altra teoria il nome Mongibello deriva da Mulciber (qui ignem mulcet), uno degli epiteti con cui veniva chiamato, dai latini, il dio Vulcano, che serviva a placare la forza distruttiva dell'Etna. Le popolazioni etnee, per indicare l'Etna, usano a volte il termine gergale 'a muntagna semplicemente nel suo significato di montagna per antonomasia.

Oggi il nome Mongibello indica la parte sommitale dell'Etna; l'area dei due crateri centrali, nonché i crateri sud-est e nord-est.

Le eruzioni regolari della montagna, a volte drammatiche, l'hanno resa un soggetto di grande interesse per la mitologia classica e le credenze popolari che hanno cercato di spiegare il comportamento del vulcano tramite i vari dei e giganti delle leggende romane e greche.

Mount Etna (Αἴτνη (Aítnē) in Classical Greek,[2] Aetna in Latin, also known as Muncibeddu (beautiful mountain) in Sicilian and Mongibello in Italian (from the Latin mons and the Arabic gibel, both meaning mountain[3]) is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania. Its Arabic name was Jebel Utlamat ("the Mountain of Fire").[citation needed] According to Adrian Room’s book Placenames of the World, the name Etna is said to have originated from a Phoenician word attuna meaning “furnace.” He dismisses the theory that Etna is from a Greek source meaning “I burn.”[4] It is the largest active volcano in Europe, currently standing 3,329 metres (10,922 ft) high, though this varies with summit eruptions; the mountain is 21 m (69 ft) lower now than it was in 1981. Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of activity. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. Due to its history of recent activity and nearby population, Mount Etna has been designated a Decade Volcano by the United Nations.[6]
