The Former Bayer CropScience site is located along the A10 on the outskirts of Hauxton. Since the 1940s the site was used for the production of agrochemicals including pesticides and herbicides, which over time have contaminated the soil and ground water.
The site was determined as Contaminated Land in 2003 under Part IIa of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and designated a Special Site for regulation by the Environment Agency.
The site had to be remediated since it posed a threat to the Riddy Brook and River Cam.

The tinny wasp emerged from the egg of a two spotted bug. The eggs had been laid compactively in two rows on a twig of congress grass .
Damsel bugs, also known as “nabids”, eat small insect eggs as well as aphids and mites. This insect uses a needle like mouth-part to insert into its prey and suck out the insides. They are slender, often yellowish-brown and about 8 -12 mm (3/8 to 1/2 inch) long. The wings lie flat across the back, crossing at the tips. The abdomen is slightly swollen and the body tapers toward a narrow, elongated head. The adult female inserts white colored eggs into the stem of the plant --only the egg cap shows. Damsel Bug nymphs are a little smaller than their parents, do not have fully developed wings, but otherwise resemble wingless adults in shape and color. Be a little careful with damsel bugs because they are predators and can give a painful bite to big and small alike. Ken Wise

The kitbag has now been brush vacuumed to rid of insect casings. I have packed out the kitbag by making a small mattress of Dacron, Tyvek and tissue to support but not packed out too tightly so the sharp creases can relax and not be forced out..
