Crushed oyster shells... yet another attempt at finding refuge from the snails for my chard. I'll let you know if it works.
Next day: no sign of damage yet and usually those snails go to work immediately, so this is looking good...
Cicada Killer Wasps are large insects (1.5 inches) that are present in summer months. Female wasps are solitary, each digging their own burrow in bare/open soil. Male wasps will guard a female nest and chase other wasps and humans that approach. Fortunately they cannot sting. Female wasps are beneficial by reducing cicada populations, which they provide to their larvae as food.

There was high security on site whilst the clean up took place, with lots of warnings and huge secure gates.
This was a chemical factory. The whole factory was demolished and the soil 'cleaned'. It is a large site and all that can be seen at the moment is bare earth. It is now destined for housing.

The Former Bayer CropScience site is located along the A10 on the outskirts of Hauxton. Since the 1940s the site was used for the production of agrochemicals including pesticides and herbicides, which over time have contaminated the soil and ground water.
The site was determined as Contaminated Land in 2003 under Part IIa of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and designated a Special Site for regulation by the Environment Agency.
The site had to be remediated since it posed a threat to the Riddy Brook and River Cam.

Firebrats have a broad diet that includes anything high in protein, sugar or starch. Closely related to silverfish, firebrats are able to tolerate higher temperatures and can be found above pizza ovens and in boiler rooms. This insect monitor, placed on the floor of a boiler room, shows several firebrats, with their characteristic carrot shape. Because insects are in the middle of the glue board, it is possible that they have fallen off a structure above, such as overhead steam pipes. It is always important to look up when conducting pest inspections and monitoring.

Tiny carpenter bees are not structural pests. Instead they nest in the hollow stems of garden plants and grasses. They are common and important pollinators of agricultural and horticultural plants.

Sweat bees are tiny pollinators with an affinity for flowers and perspiring skin. They can deliver a brief painful sting if caught under clothing or pressed against the skin (imagine kneeling down and feeling the zing behind your knee!). Like other pollinators, sweat bees do more good than harm and should be tolerated or encouraged.
A secret code that I found on the openings on the sidewalks in the city of Bologna. When I discovered these coloured points in all the city, I though it was something of artistic or an arcane language for strange groups of people. What is it? I challenge you to guess, and you can challenge your friends.

Ti sfido a indovinare, e tu puoi sfidare i tuoi amici a fare altrettanto.

Answer:
The truth is very simple: they are signals of passage of the operators of disinfestation from mosquitos.

Risposta:
La realtà è semplice: sono i segnali del passaggio dei disinfestatori antizanzare.

This is a cute little frog who found her way into my garden where she is living out her life. She (and her friends) have been living in my garden area for about two or three years now. I love these little frogs as they eat so many pests out of the garden! They also sing so beautifully for me every single evening!
They are called: Sierran Treefrog or Pacific Chorus Frog (Pseudacris sierra) (Thank you for teh ID sfbaywildlife).

The kitbag at rear and the haversack have now been brush vacuumed to rid of insect casings. I have packed out the kitbag by making a small mattress of Dacron, tyvek and tissue to support but not packed out too tightly so the sharp creases can relax and not be forced out..
The haversack is brush vacuumed and gently packed out with tissue.
