On Saturday 7 October 2017, UCL Urban Laboratory and Folkestone Triennial 2017 held the second event in the EDGE symposium series, exploring the concept of situated practice in contemporary art, architecture and urbanism. The events bring together practitioners and thinkers at three ‘edge’ locations connected by the High Speed 1 railway, which acts a geographical link and embodies ideas associated with community, connectivity and escapism.
In framing these events, we have considered 'edge' as: 'Where an area that is known or privileged meets another that is unknown or ignored; a point of balance between contrary or diverse phenomena; a place of connectivity and interaction.'
'Periphery' was a day of enquiry to consider the environs of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Investment for the 2012 Games brought rapid development to the previously neglected Stratford area. Here East, within the former press and broadcasting centre of the Games, is envisaged as a cluster of innovators and digital makers, whilst the Stratford Waterside development will bring new institutions including the V&A, Sadler's Wells, London College of Fashion, and UCL.

I happened to get the most and the best photos of Periphery out of all other bands I shot that day, these photos deserve their own album. Sadly, their bassist, Nolly, did not make it to this show, he was still trapped in the UK. Periphery on the Summer Slaughter tour play at the house of blues in Hollywood on July 20th.

The only motorable road inside the Park, passes through the southern extremity inside the tourism zone (Rajamala) to the Rajamallay tea estate. Another road head leads to the Lakkom Muduvakudy on the periphery and is not usable at present. All other movements inside the Park are on foot along trails and footpaths.
Public conveyance facilities like buses and taxi, telephone, fax, postal, internet and e-mail facilities are available at Munnar. Boarding and lodging facilities of various categories exist in this small township.

If ever there was a band that deserved a better place to play for this night, it is Periphery. The stage was almost non-existent and the lighting was horrible. There were times when you could not even see the band since the lighting was so uneven. My pictures reflect this. However, Periphery did not disappoint. They are technical wizards on their respective instruments. And they have fun on stage!
Si jamás fuera una banda que mereciera un mejor sitio para tocar, serÃa Periphery. Casi no existÃa algo que se llamarÃa un escenario y la iluminación era horrible. HabÃa ocasiones en las que ni siquiera se podÃa ver la banda debido a las luces tan inconsistentes e irregulares. Mis fotos reflejan esto. No obstante, Periphery no me desilusionó. Todos los integrantes son magos técnicos en sus instrumentos respectivos. ¡Y se divierten en el escenario!

The corner of the gateway.
The gateway to our souls.
An inkling on the borders of our panoramic view.
Aware of our surroundings.
The key is not in focus, but it's in our crosshairs.
We are seduced by the unassuming linger of peripheral observation.
In the background of our imaginations.
Indefinitely held on standby.
On an extended hiatus without any contractual obligation.
Kept in suspended animation.
Neither alive, nor dead.
Eager to play, but stuck on the bench.
An applauded and entertained thought.
The sightings in the warm glow of our strategically erected parallel dimension.
The thought alone seems to satisfy.
An additional battery, on charge.
The reassurance burns and crackles in the distance.
We are each other's unuttered juice.
The transfer between us is rampant.
All we remain is energy. Both near and far.
Forever in flux.
Despite the warm fuzz, our corner-view produces a blurry representation.
Not much can be extrapolated from this specimen.
The designed ideal mimics that of a fictional reality.
We become far-removed from our known landscape.
We have played tricks on our hearts.
Self-sabotage plagues us all.
The tyres have blown.
We've veered off the path we once knew.
The spirit we once held close can only be experienced via old anecdotes.
Our true disposition can be accessed through the window.
The choice is often made not to.
The noncommittal expression of interest reigns supreme.
We linger in the shadows, yearning for the light.
We wear our hearts on our sleeves, yet we make every effort to avert our eyes.
