City Of Rocks, SW New Mexico, USA. This is an amazing place with great shapes and textures in every direction. For scale the little tree to the left is taller than a man and I shot with a car in the distance (to the right) parked at one of the many picnic areas on the periphery of this park. Thanks for looking!

Laguna Hedionda (Spanish for "stinking lake") is a saline lake in the Nor Lípez Province, Potosí Department in Bolivia. It is notable for various migratory species of pink and white flamingos.
Laguna Hedionda is one of the nine small saline lakes in the Andean Altiplano. It lies at an altitude of 4,121 metres (13,520 ft), with an area of 3 square kilometres (1.2 sq mi). Salt flats and bofedales (wetlands) are spread over the periphery of the lake. It is in a very remote area where human habitation is negligible. However, llamas and alpacas are seen grazing in the area.

A new theme for me and also a challenge. To see things from another perspective. My contribution for the theme "periphery".
The narrow river or stream in the photo is a tributary of Indrawati river that is a tributary of Koshi river that is a tributary of Ganges. This photo was taken in the western periphery of Melamchi municipality.
Typical village landscape in Hanoi. Presently threathened by large urban developments at the periphery of the city. The city has been built on large water areas that are progressively reduced to residual water ponds as the one that appears on this picture.
The brilliant hues of a blood moon come from the edges of the sun peeking around the periphery of the Earth, catching the atmosphere. It's essentially a global sunset shining on the moon, which has to be in just the right position to catch those rays.
The Blood Moon was visible on all or parts of the U.S.A.
The people of Europe, Africa and the Middle East were not able to see it.
This morning I got up very early to take some shots of the Moon, but the sky was somewhat cloudy and it was raining.
I went back to bed thinking that I was going to miss this event.
At around 6:00am my husband woke me up to tell me that the moon eclipse was very visible.
I quickly picked up my gear, went outdoors and starting to take several shots.
Here is a compilation of some of the shots that I have taken. The last to the right is the actual picture of the moon with the Valley in the foreground and it was taken at 6:28am at the end of the shooting.

A common Kingfisher found easily across our state inthe countryside - usually around waterbodies such as lakes, ponds, or paddyfields. The bird is a predator and adults do get pretty big - the size of small dove maybe - much bigger than most of the other kingfishers we normally see.
These are opportunistic predators and can be seen with a variety of prey in their beaks. This includes reptiles like Lizards and Skinks, smaller birds like White-Eyes, Flowerpeckers and even chicks of other birds, fish, beetles and Grasshoppers. They are aggressive and quite territorial.
This one though I sighted hunting over a wet paddyfield that was hosting some waders. The edges of the paddyfield was dry and had some insects - maybe beetles and crickets. The kingfisher hunted on the periphery using some twigs as perching points. It was successful in catching an insect and consumed it pretty soon. A Marsh Harrier hunting nearby disturbed the bird and it soon flew away far.

Last week I have been to Tuscany with www.flickr.com/photos/henk-meijer. We had a rainy, windy and cold week. Not the weather you would expect when going to Tuscany. But it was a great week with lots of fun and some beautiful moments.
