Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.
Hosea 4:18 King James Version
3rd August (evening) 2018 at the Ham Marquee, Sidmouth (supporting Peter Knight & John Spiers).
Sidmouth Folk Week.
Country: Britain. Style: Performance Poetry (mainly Comic Monologues).
Lineup: Les Barker (recitations).
Les Barker is from Manchester, and has lived in Wales for many years. His poems are full of wordplays, and he has mostly performed them in Folk Clubs. Either solo or for a period joined by musicians under the banner of the Mrs Ackroyd Band (for what were often parodies of traditional Folk Songs). His selection here were nearly all comic ("An Infinite Number of Occasional Tables", "The Boy Who Was Raised By Lemmings", "The Church of the Wholly Undecided", "Dachshunds With Erections Can't Climb Stairs", "Disaster at Sea", "Have You Got Any News of the Iceberg?", "I don't like my boomerang", "The inflatable boy", "Reg Was a Lonely Glow Worm", "Shi Tzu") and one serious one ("Remembrance"). The atmosphere in the tent was similar to one of those Folk Club which thrives on choruses, with a substantial part of the audience joining in the recitation of their favourite lines.

This is a Poem: SENSE/AntiSENSE
This project is the result of a collaboration between Jason Taellious, Richard Thietje, Jim Hill and Meesh Rheault Miller. This project explores the fusion of a new form of performance poetry and experimental film. Contrapuntal language and synchronicity are layered with added strata of visuals, sound and music. The viewer experiences the intention of the words on multiple levels – a sort of ephemeral sound sculpture and visual alchemy the unexpected result of reinventing media.

3rd June 2016 at King and Queen, London W1.
“Dublin Night”, Musical Traditions Folk Club, www.englishfolkinfo.org.uk/mustrad/mtc.html.
This evening consisted mostly of songs about or associated with Dublin (e.g. "Biddy Mulligan, "The Forgetful Sailor", "The Maid of Cabra West", "The Ragman's Ball", "The Charlady's Ball"). More specifically of songs relating to James Joyce (given the proximity to the 16th June the annual Bloomsday celebration derived from the day in 1904 on which the action of Ulysses takes place), and concerning the Easter Rising (with the 100th anniversary happening during the preceeding month).
Country: Britain (Irish descent). Style: Performance Poetry.
Lineup: Peter “Racker” Donnelly (recitations).
Racker Donnelly was born in Sheffield to Irish parents. He described Bray as his "spiritual home". He spent time there with his uncle and aunt during the war as an evacuee and in school holidays (and later attended Blackrock College as a border and then UCD). He also returned to Ireland living in Bray (and Sandycove) in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Retired from a career in journalism he was now dedicated himself to his poetry. I took photos of him doing a floorspot when Will Duke & Dan Quinn performed at this club in 2012, see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157632379498657/.
