I couldn't help but think of Charly Aguirre and the photos we made earlier this year when the performance began this night. It did in fact include a performer with a hula hoop on fire. This was my favorite of the long exposures I attempted while sitting nearby the performance.

400 ISO, f/8, 0.5 seconds, handheld. Getting a long exposure of a performance includes a fair amount of luck getting the movement to create something interesting, especially when handheld. Sometimes you just do the best you can, shoot a bunch of frames and see what you get.

Just as in the Joni Mitchell song, he was playing real good, and also circumstances meant that I could not put anything in his cap.

This is the first busker I've photographed for a couple of years, and I always make a point of dropping in a coin or two if I take a photo. But then I realised this new era dictated that I had no coins in my pocket.
